Ravi:
Perhaps you could consider adding a link to the "Film Songs and Sequences that would make good Music Videos" thread. Apart from the 84 song list, there are some relevant comments by DFers about the songs and their picturization too. I didn't want to add the link in a posting because it might go into 'Old Responses'.

My vote goes to "Veesum Kaatrukku" in Ullaasam.
The camera matched Unnikrishnan's majestic voice
and IR jr's rich music with beautiful scenes from
Europe (Was that Germany???)
Other recent notables:
Maanamadhurai - Minsaara Kanavu
Narumugaiye - Iruvar
Columbus - Jeans
Of course the best oldies would be "Paruvame" in "Nenjathai Killaathey" and "Andhi Mazhai" in Rajapaarvai.

wow, wonderful thread going on here.
of all the badly picturised great songs, "Yaetho ninaivbugal" from some trashy vijaykaanth movie must rank as the worst. such a moving rendition by KJY and some out of the world music by IR, only to be besmirched by vijaykanth and shobha dancing a koothu on some bridge!!! trragic state of affairs.
does nayone remember the picturisation of "ilamai enum poongaatru"? straight out of one of those morning show mallu movies like charavalayam and adi thaalam. man, i could have shot the director and that wimp who was..ahem, deflowering sridevi, for ruining an alltime great by IR-Kannadhaasan. intha naadu uruppadaathu.
another song that was wrecked is "ithazhil kathai ezhuthum neram ithu". KB has this nasty habit of taking the zing out of a great song. should take a few tips from mahendran and maniratnam (the KING of picturisation), or even suresh krishna, who attained has moksha with the pict. of "valaiyosai kalakalavena". man, amala drove me wild in those adolescent days of fettered passion.

One can probably list a bunch of songs that can be listed under this catagory. My favorites are:
(1) Yenge Nimmadhi from Pudhiya paravai - I heard that kannadhasan wrote lyrics after asking shivaji ganesan to enact the scene. How the director picturised the song is for us all to see and appreciate. Picturisation is beyond description.
(2) Poonkatru thirumbuma from mudhal mariyadhai - most of the songs in this movie were picturised well. Of course, shivaji's facial expressions in this song was the standout.
(3) Yenna saththam indha neram - Punnagai mannan. I guess this will be liked by many not only for the tune and SPBs rendition, but also for the picturisation. Kamal could bring out all the emotions of a lover-boy about to commit suicide and that "pirivuth thuyar".
(4) How about Kanmani anboda kadhalan and partha vizhi partha padi poothu irukka, both from Guna?
Is there others also, who share the same view about the songs listed above?

Vaidy:
If you visit the "Film songs..." thread, whose link I have provided above your first posting, you'll see a wonderful, apt description of "Engey Nimmadhi" given by Kanchana. In fact, both Mudhal Mariyadhai and Punnagai Mann have been discussed as well as 80 odd other songs. And thanks for that tidbit about Kannadhaasan :-)

hey guys how about the song "something" in Anjali. Oh what sax interludes and children dancing.
"Kannilena kaargalam" from "unkannil neer vazhindhal" a class picturised song by the great Balu Mahendra was a classic one.
Azagiye kanne by Mahendran is an immortal combo between Mahendran and Raaja.
Of all, my rating for the top spot goes to
" Netru indha neram" from Tik Tik Tik it equals any MTV song. Bharathiraaja and IR went to the heights in picturisation.
Thanks
Veera

KB has this nasty habit of taking the zing out of a great song. should take a few tips from mahendran ...
cram.. I happened to see mahendran's 'adippeNNe pon oonjal aadum iLamai' frm muLLum malarum. Though, I have great regards for Mahendran's picturization, I somehow felt disappointed! For such a great, fast paced, tabla-violin-jaladharangam opening, I was expecting something great.. A girl jumping out of joy, enthusiasm... I was expecting amarar Kalki's words "sivakaami aanandha thaaNdavam aadinaaL" to be in the picture! But somehow, I felt tht the shots were not properly expressing the pace-mood of the song. Ofcourse, he hasnt spoiled the song.. Zooming at evening sun, cloud & rainbow might have matched the lyrics bhoomikkum oru paalam very well ! But somehow, I felt it did not match the basic rythm of the song!
Also first interlude in this song undergoes some kinda 'turbulance' and later on smooths down in rythm... [konjam thaLLaadum!] this may not be wht IR had planned for, but thts how it sounds in the casstte atleast! I dont know why..
When I heard the song first time, I felt some resemblence to the description of a River Cauvery by amarar. kalki:
thuLLum thudippudan, neer aruviyaai malai uchchiyil irundhu puRappattu, kaadu, malai mEdugaLil payaNiththu, thaLLaadi, samaveLiyil orE seeraaga payaNikkum ponni nathi..
Ofcourse, its purly IMO, and here are the smileys:

i saw Mullum malarum a long time back, so i don't remember the picturisation of adi peNNe (mind-blowing number, expressing what is known in french as joie de vivre, somthing ARR attempted with great success in Chinna chinna aasai). but then, one must also keep in mind IR's genius.
he might express a particular idea in a scintillating manner, but the director may not be able to match up with the picurisation to do justice to the song, not because he's not taleted but because he may not be able to match IR's musical genius with his directorial abilities.
but KB has no excuse. his picturising of "ithazhil kathai ezhuthum" leaves me fuming every time i watch it. contrast with mani ratnam, who rarely ruins a song (thee thee thiththikkum thee).
thankx for the ;-))))))))))))))))))))))s, back to you tooooo.

Cram, IMO, Jency was at her best in adi peNNE (the only DB is she pronounces peNNE as penne). She seems to have enjoyed the song while singing
it.There will be a shiver in her voice in the beginning and also towards the end of the song. Interestingly ,shoba who sings the song is also shown as
taking bath in one of those scenes!! Was the shiver deliberate ??? God, jency and IR only know.

kaNNodu kAnbadhellAm is a beautiful number well spoilt by the picturisation.I donno whom to blame as the picturisation fits the scene well and the song doesn't.

UV,
have u noticed that there is always a carnatic-based song in all of shankar's films, the proverbial oasis among other adithadi numbers? kaNNodu follows en veettu thottathil, beautifully picturised, ennavaLe, also theek hai, pachai kiLigaL, one of the finest picturisations i have ever seen.
none of the songs in Jeans stood out for their picturisation. summa grand canyon-um pisa tower-um kaamichchaa makkaL yaemaaramaattaangannu shankar uNarnthirupparendru nambuvOm.
