ARR did not use kumar sanu at all expect one song
( milgaye milgaye, redone of anjali anjali from duet). I like to consider, as if ARR trying to make a statement by allowing sanu to sing the song, which was sung by SPB both in tamil and hindi. Kumar sanu might be having grudge on ARR for ignoring him completely.
BTW, talking about sanu's god-given knowledge in recognizing repetitive music, the songs he sang in sirf tum (pehli pehli pyar) and in daag the fie ( dil diwana ) have the same tune. When one of the interviews, it was mentioned to him, he could not able to recongize it. And he is calling ARR music repetitive.
This kind of arrogant behovior did turn me off from hindi music often.
regards
e.hari

Actually, I think he was true when he said that he refused to sing for ARR. He mentioned this in another interview. Said something about an MD who people thought big and that his secretary called him for a song and was shocked when he refused. The funny thing is though, I think the 'hindi TMS' is proud of his exclusive answer:-)

The funny thing is kumar sanu is hitting out at ARR without any provocation whatsoever. even in the earlier interview that aruvi mentioned about, he started his 'grudgery'suddenly from nowhere! it must be a case of sour grapes for sure!
aruvi, 'hindi TMS'?!!

Ahh come on! His voice is SO like TMS's. I try never to have to hear his songs. My 'hindi songs loving' sister won't believe me but it is true. I remember, that's the first thing that came to my mind when I heard his hindi songs, which only happened because my sister got into hindi so much. Even today, if she puts his songs on, I run out. By now, you should probably have realized that I don't like TMS's voice. His voice suits only MGR and Sivaji. I think if I liked any songs sung by him, it is only because of the songs quality and not for his voice. I can only think of 'malarnthum malaraatha' song right now, though I do like Psusheela. Rarely do I listen to his songs. The only male vocalist who had an endurable nice voice was PBSreenivas. What a voice! But my father believes that the only true singer in Tamil is TMS. Unbelievable, says I.

aruvi,
iam not sure on your take about the TMS-KS connection. will have to listen to them again.
anyway, i share your 'not so crazy about TMS' view. however, it was a blsphemy to spell out this opinion with any of the oldies around!

Whoa! TMS and KS? I feel that's blasphemy. My father more so probably. KS has no voice quality to speak of and even lesser control. TMS at least had a clean voice and very good pitch and resonance.

Alaipayudhe song :
http://www.alaipayuthey.com/ has one song "Pachai nirame" from alaipayadhe, rendered by HH. It sounds pretty good with heavy harmony!! The realaudio quality is very good.
I am looking fwd to hearing the entire album! It looks like its gonna be anoother feather in ARR's cap!

The theme of alaipaayudhe song "Pachai nirame" seems to be COLOURS. Going by the lyrics, (is it VM?? sounds like him!) which talks about pachai nirame, sivuappu, manjaL etc... its gonna be a real "colourful' song from MR!
HH sounds good, and i like the male-duet-harmony!!

pochu da.... Yet another ARR album and yet another bout of ARR vs IR, followed by the sudden revelation that the tune is faintly similar to a previous song, the bass is the same as the fourth song in the third album by the Moroccan band SYUNTIOVARUM, and the beats are all sampled from John Getmesampled's Celtic album. There will definitely be a bad choice of singer, whose voice will not suit Shalini or maybe Madhavan and of course the opinion that SPB could have done a better job. There will the inevitable reviews by the musically literate (which IMO are much better than the magazine/newspaper reviews)
So, am I complaining?? No! I cant wait for the album to come out too! :-)
And for starters, let me pick on Vairamuthu...I listened to this "Sahiyae" song atleast 10 times and still think that the words do not go with the tune. It sounded terribly odd....and "ilaiyin nirangal pachai nirame"... Well, this truth hit me right in the face!
On the other hand, the song sounds good and *sigh*, I predict another ARR hit (duh!). The guitar (or whatever) plucking and the intro flute piece are all very catchy. Vintage ARR stuff.
But I'll still look out for a song to beat Isaiyil thodanguthamma for best song of Jan/Feb 2000. :)

aruvi:
Are you serious? I think that SPB is the best playback singer, period. However, to compare KS to TMS - is like amaavaasai kkum abdul kaadharukkum sambandham (yEnnaa rendum karuppu). TMS modelled his singing after MKT and hence followed the full throated, open mouth singing tradition. Just to give a sample of his talents take paattum naanEy and maadhavip pon mayilaaL. Sure you don't want to have candle light dinner with these songs playing in the back ground but you cannot dispute the sheer talent of the singer. True TMS could be accused of being nasal in many songs, and KS is nasal whenever he opens his nostrils (oops! I mean his mouth). But I think all similarity ends there.
KS is not even 100% KK (whom he supposedly models after). He has overused a certain 'cheap' lafangaa (Hindi term for porukki) type voice which KK used more frequently in the latter part of his career. Santanu Kumar (as Kumar Sanu was originally known in Calcutta) was not even a number one imitator of KK in Cal. aanaa oru vishayam! udambu poora machcham. Aashqui hit aachchu - ippO thuLraan avvaLavu dhaan!
I know music appreciation is subjective and freedom of thought and expression ensures that you could look at things differently than I do, or other people do. But comparing TMS with KS is.....waaaaay out there,....somewhere (I hope it is not too lonely there):-)

IQ,
I heard SakiyE. Nothing to write home about. I don't care it is similar to any song, piece, bit, etc. etc. OR NOT! It just doen't do anything for me. If ARR was not the composer, I am not even sure if somebody would have bothered to upload it on the net.

i am listening to Odum mEkangkaLE oru col kELIrO. what a voice and singing. listen to the way he sings nAdALum vaNNa mayil. wow! it's a pity we don't have anyone of the caliber of TMS anymore.

Your posting signals the beginning of Round one in Bout# 1657 between ARR & IR. Of course IR has not set his foot in the ring...but you will not have to wait long. :)
But I wondering about your words "If ARR was not the composer, I am not even sure if somebody would have bothered to upload it on the net.". I guess its just not the question of who the composer is, but rather also the fact that Maniratnam is the director. But whether I like it or not, I thought the song had a distinct ARR touch to it. The opening sahiyae, snehiyae is so pop-flavored and the heavy use of the guitar and a characteristic opening synthetic flute ( in this case) are all his trademarks, dont you think?.
pg:
Thanks...but I think I was just stating the obvious. :)
Trivial thought: I think "Clinton" is a nice name for a singer cos' its the type of name that will take a lot of effort to forget! :)

Heard the song sakiye.... IMO, romba sumar. The beginning was nice, but that's the only compliment I can give the song. A special word for Vairamuthu : You suck! Banal lyrics totally take out whatever beauty there is in the song!
