  Has anyone come across this album featuring ARR? (and once again sorry if it has been discussed before). Song #5 is credited to him and when I checked that out, turns out to be a "spoken" song, with the Bombay theme music as background! :)

  A R Rahman says no to Indian film music and concerts
  - Ayyappa Prasad , Screen (Indian Express Group) 11-02-2000
  
  A R Rahman, known to be India's highest paid music director has
  decided
  not to accept any more offers from Indian film music companies or go
  for
  stage shows since he plans to shift his base to London where he will be
  scoring the music for Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's play.
  
  According to sources close to him, Rahman feels that he is being
  restricted by scoring for just Tamil and Hindi film music. He believes
  that the use of Indian vedic hymns and Indian tunes in international pop
  albums of Michael Jackson and film scores abroad has been a pointer
  that
  the demand for Indian film music has been increasing. It has open up a
  big market comprising NRIs.
  
  Rahman feels that by moving to London, he can take advantage of the
  state-of-the-art recording facilities and equipment which are available
  there.
  
  Recently the celebrity composer had thumbed down an offer by the
  organisers of the Amitabh-Shahrukh Khan Stage show in Singapore and
  Malaysia. He had also refused to accept offers from film producers who
  approached him. It is also learnt that he has given permission to
  director Praveenkanth to use the tracks of 'Thakshak' for his
  forthcoming Tamil film. His two films due for release are Rajiv Menon's
  Kandukonden Kandukonden and Mani Ratnam's Alay Paayuthey both of
  which
  have to get the re-recording completed.
  
  Rahman whose success graph in the music industry has been very high
  recently scored another majot hit with Taal in Indian as well as the
  overseas markets, with its music reaching the the top of the UK TOP 20

  That interview was ironical, to say the least! :)
  
  Here is a guy who constantly sings for the other 'non-repetitive' MD's like Anand-Milind, Anu Malik& Co and he calls ARR repetitive! What was he thinking when he said all that?? If this isnt a classic case of "sour grapes" then what is?

  With due respect Sanu...the answer lies in the accusation. They wanted to award the vocalist(someone who used their vocal cords for singing) and not a nasalist(if there is such a word!).
  And please makkals, his opinions are not worth 2 cents in this forum and I am sure there are many to back me on this!

  The award was meant for a vocalist and not a nasalist ,
  ROTFL
  In fact, it is a disgrace for chitra to go sing with a nasalist like KS. Chitra must have declined the award being given to a song which is not original, though it sounded good. There is a gap of a light-year between the two singers in that song.

  Actually, there are two versions to 'payale chunmun'. One was a Chithra solo and the other was with Kumar Sanu.
  
  Kumar Sanu should be the last person to talk about honesty:-). Everyone knows that the guy is an arrogant you know what. The way he talks, no one can sing like him. He knows everything, it seems. He needs to face reality sometime:-)
