Prabhu: I was only commenting on the reviewer saying that the only acceptable song in the album is mudhalvanE and the rest or noisy!! Let alone the issue if songs like kurukku siruthavaLe, azhagaana ratchasiyE are good, but certainly they are not "noisy". Thats what made me wonder if the reviewer actually listened to the songs or not. :-)

Pukar needed a 100 piece orchestra for every scene? Interesting. Reminds me of a recent interview where another movie was toted to have used a 90 piece orchestra. Hmm...

I know this might be off topic.
The song "Kismat se Tum" from Pukar sounds very much like our old Tamil song "Janaki Devi Ramaney theydi....". Just an observation.
Also, the song "Sunta hai" sounds like slowed down version of ARR's own "Chanda Re.." from Sapnay or "Vennilave...Vennnilave.." from Minsara kanavu.
We all know the song "Que sara" is TFM famous "Kadhal Niaagra..".
Strangely, the film is 240 million project??????. Hmmm....
Any thoughts?

I felt that too about 'Suntha hai'. The mood in the music is the same. And did anyone notice that in the charanam, when the female sings, it is part of the 'inji idupazhaga' charanam. I wonder if it is...

yo guys... start listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's songs and you will know where ARR lifts his tunes (some of them)... for example, the song monalisa from Mr.Romeo is lifted from the song Allah Hoo by Nusrat.. i noticed many more...

Not only that. He also fricks the tunes from very old MSV,Thyagaraja songs thinking that the young
generation people doesn't aware of the old songs.
(There was an article in Kungumam which talks more about ARR fricking tunes from old albums)

Rediff reads:
"A R Rahman's tunes are hummable and the songs are picturised well, particularly Que sera sera, Kabhi kisi se pyar na karna and Phir chalne wale rukthe hain kahan."
and a punchline about the movie itself is at the end:
"Watching Pukar makes one hope and pray that India and Pakistan mend their differences as quickly as possible. Only then can we escape such films".
There cannot be a comment more derogatory than this :-) Poor ARR ! Wish him good luck to get good films in the future !

Shankar:
>sunta hai sounds to me like "kallellAm mANicka >kallAgumA"
Yeah Sounds like that...after posting I noticed that *Neels* has also mentioned same song as you.
From that time I staretd wondering whether ARR originally engineered "Vennilave..Vennilave" from
"kallellAm mANicka kallAgumA".. But I myself couldn't come to a consesus.
Whatever

Please learn something about Karnatic music before you make such sweeping statements. When a song is in the same Ragam as another, you will inadvertantly hear 'tinges' of 1 in another. Take a listen to all of Ilayaraja's Keeravani numbers and if you have some musical tone sense, you will pick this up in each and every one.

From tomorrows Hindu Newspaper:
A. R. Rahman is all ready to move. To London, and to the theatre. Building on his film foundation, he is taking the big leap for the lights of the West End, to create the score for an English play.
The music director is scheduled to leave for a five- month sojourn next month, to start work n the play by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Shekhar Kapoor.
So what about the big numbers for the foot-tapping Indians? All his assignments for the year are already done with ``Rhythm''. The films will be released at regular intervals.
The score for the London venture by the man who experimented with ``Vande Mataram'' and
`Jana Gana Mana'' will be recorded in CD format too. Will we see this Western production in Chennai?

Review of Pukar in Rediff.com.
"Both Anil Kapoor's and Madhuri Dixit’s performances have come in for a lot
of praise. What hasn’t are the songs. Rahman’s
music should have been better, considering the
canvas of the film. Also, considering that the
film has such a strong patriotic flavour, there
should have been a hit desh-bhakti number. "
