  Just when Ramana had killed all expectations, comes a gust of fresh, unadulterated graamathu air! SMK is vintage IR back with his flute, percussion and choral arrangements that speak of an era gone by... The synth still lingers in Gundumalli and Etho Onnu, but surreptitiously in the background. "Kaattule" is a magical no. bringing alive the memories of "Senthazhampoovil", a tremendous debut for Vidhu Prathapan. Superb flute pieces dominate this song. Harish elevates "Gundumalli" with his controlled rendition. Shreya Goshal comes into the IR fold via KR (post-Album), I feel Swarnalatha would have been a better choice. Likewise, I would've preferred Unnikrishnan and Chitra instead of Bhava and Karthik for "Etho".
  
  SMK proves that IR holds the lifetime patent for the "Mann Vaasanai" of the thamizh countryside. One album like this in a year is all I wish for.
  SMK outdoes any of recent IR albums by a mile. My awful luck with recent albums - Ramana, April Maadhathile, KV - runs to a glorious close. IR back with a bang!

  Romba thanks. I am hooked to SMK!
  I read somewhere that just like he did for Azhagi, the director went to IR with the draft cut of the movie and asked him to write lyrics and compose songs for whatever situations he found appropriate. And he seems to have had a field day doing just that! Wonder what the signature tune (title BGM) is going to be like for SMK. The azhagi title BGM was a classic!

  More on SMK: It looks like the leading contender for the best IR album of the year. I don't know if it is worthy of 'classic' status, like 'Aranmanai Kili,' but it is definitely a breath of fresh air in a barrage of so-called 'hip, peppy, sweet, youthful' or what have you, techno junk released within this year.

  A pleasant surprise, I didn't know SMK was coming this weekend. But what is all this sudden excitement about.
  
  'Kaatule' starts superficially like 'Kaatre' in Kaadhal Saathi, and many more such from IR. And many such which don't seem to have an immediate impact..... so some one please explain what's the big deal about this guy 'Vidhu Pradhapan' who has been 'Introduced'. Who is he? What a discovery!!!! Another song that takes us deeper into the roots! But ... is there a tinge of doubt in his mind? I don't want an answer.
  
  'Gundu malli' is another attempt at innocence integrated with seduction. When did I last come across this? was it 'andha nilavathaan'? or am I just lost in a myriad of nostalgia ????
  
  Another 'amma sonna aariraaro' that reinforces the antithesis of the Freudian sexuality!! a lullaby to sleep in peace... how much more can you teach us??? you blessed soul....... envy is your bane!!

  Kattula Thalaiyatu
  
  "Kattula Thalaiyattura Siru Avarampoovae", this is the starting line. IR may sing the following line, "Pattula Thalaiyattura En Rasiganae". Yes a nice melody which melts me. Only IR can done this type of songs. New face Vidhu Prathaban has sung well. It will be at top of charts at a long time.
  
  Kundu Malli
  
  New face Sreya Koshal's voice has similarities to Uma Ramanan's voice, I think. A wonderful song and Catchy tune both in Pallavi & Saranam. In Azaki, singer Karthik signs. In SMK Harish Ragavendra signs also with Karthik (Song Etho Onnu). Raja's this melody refresh me while listening. "Kanmaniyae Kathal Enbathu" type starting line, i.e., long pallavi. Also we can compare these two songs. I feel the magical IR touch which may be felt normally by 70's & 80's songs of IR.
  
  Amma Sonna
  
  Again a 'Amma' song. While comparing this with "Amma Enralaikkatha Uyirillaiyae", the Manna song is a karnatic type and in this song there is "Gramiya Manam". We can feel the experience of melting wind in this song. In the cassette it comes two times, one with IR and another with IR & Vijay Jesudass. Some Rajkiran and Ramarajan film songs will be reminded. But there is no disturb to listen this song. It looks like a Devotional song. Some beautiful "Pullankulal" beat. Vijay remembers his father.
  
  Panam Mattum
  
  It looks like a "Thathuva Padal". "En Kuthama Un Kuthama" version of SMK. IR is well suited for this song. It reminds "Rokkam Irukkira" in Kasi (not by tune, music) by lyrics and Situation.
  
  Jakkamma
  
  IR sings. Very slow song. Superb lyrics but lyrics is not disturbed by music and singers
  
  Etho Onnu
  
  "Karthik - Bavatharini", the successful combo comes and also wins again. The "Oliyilae Therivathu" version of SMK. Very catchy tune and beautiful music rendering. This is the only fast melody in this album. IR's magical touch comes at some places of this song. An another fusion of high and low pitch. This song can be liked by any person at any time. It should be at the top of charts.
