Just curious. Why didn't Rakjkumar Santoshi, choose ARR to do the BGM. For sure it would have added marketing value to the movie (leave alone the quality of the BGM).

If it were so simple, then how come ARR gets better projects. Please dont say bcoz of influence or some other reason, bcoz ull be negating the reason u gave for IR. Its bcoz, ARR is way better than IR.

You will be the only person in the world to say that ARR is better than IR in BGM! Hahaha!!! In fact if any composer in India either before or after IR claims to give better BGM than IR, surely he is a fool. It has been accepted long ago that IR is the Father of Fruitful BGM!
The reason IR doesn't do Hindi films is because He doesn't like their working style. Thats all and nothing more! ARR likes them and their slow speed in making movies is easy for him to gain time for making songs.
Also, ARR is preferred by directors due to media hype only. Actually, in 2000 it was S.A.Rajkumar who was the MD in demand and not ARR as you all think!

Guys Guys, please. I didn't have the intention of starting another nasty byte war when I posted my questions. It was rather surprising to me because, the entire Hindi Film Industry is based on gimmick and publicity. Sans money I personally feel that is why ARR is doing all these crazy movies like (12k4, Taal). This marketing tricks and gimmicks, has made even, some very few good directors left back, succumb to it. Look how Shyam Benegal had to compromise on his Zubeida (one of his worst works). The bottom line is, they are not serious movie makers like Mallus. All they care is, any thin that add to the face value. So that was why I raised this question. So let's stop this war again. Peace....

Two questions.,
1. Who is composing songs for 'lajja' ? ARR ?
2. Who is this RajKumarSantoshi ? Looks like he has a soft corner for tamil MDs, He used ARR for pukar, IR for lajja and now the news is that he is introducing Deva (??) to HFM in his next movie ... interesting !

RKSanthoshi gave some hits like ghayal (a cheap imitation by our beer-belly vijayakant called barathan was made with Raja doing the score)
From his side he's given a cheap imitation of akira kursawa's 7 samurai (china gate) and dedicated the movie to Akira !!

His best movie so far is 'Damini'(remade as 'Priyanka' in tamil). Lajja is a female oriented film with a strong cast, Madhuri Dixit, Manisha koirala and Amisha patel.

I saw some other new movie starring a really wierd looking guy and Suvalakshmi dancing in some foreign location. Music was by IR it seems! Which movie is this? Incidentally the song sounded like a poor version of IR's music.

Hey folks,
What I feel is IR has reached the pinnacle and stayed there, ruled, two huge southern movie industry, created all possible great music, enjoyed the fame. And now I think it is time for him to slow down a lot. May be this is the reason, I feel that he is now concentrating more on movies that gives him peace of mind and satisfaction, more than fame and money. Because if you see, the movies he is choosing and he is chosen for, are all different eg. Bharathi and some art films like karuvelam pookal, mugam etc and now Kamarajar.
This is a typical trend, any genius would go through. That is, first proove who you are, stay on the top, dominate, leave way for others and finaly settle down for mental satisfaction.
And there is always a change of people's taste which you can never determine, predict or explain.

Hello folks, In our urge to defend our icons, let us not forget some facts. Ilaiyaraja( I don't kinda like IR, anyway), was a TENDSETTER , someone who broke away from a Pattern, and established New Milestones and went up furhter, and in the process, he gave an Intimate and Personal Feeling thro his Music, u may want to call it a "Time Warp", or somethin' like that, But he definitely walked like a Titan in Tamil Music, and he now is a legend on his own right, and an Icon of tamil people,our way of life, music and culture.
Regarding his choice of Bad films, probably,he's doing it for his friends, or people who simply perster himeto do work for them; Without a Good storyline, nobody can give soulful
music;
But Isaignani Ilaiyaraja Deserves a Lot of Respect for what he has done to the Tamil Music, and he has always given a Personal Feel;
I'm not saying that Rahman does not do that; But he gotta go a LOOOONG way , before he could do that.
