Are u keen on the "joke of the millennium award"? Never mind... just kidding!!
But that already shared by Deva & ARR... yes, Deva sings a duet in a movie and ARR was telling that he badly wanted to do "carnatic kacheri"(using K/B?!J)

I thought I knew all the films that the combo did because there was some listing a while ago. But I just found out that they also did 'kili pechu kekuthama'. I think 'KN' is way better than that. I like some songs of 'KN' but I really expected something way better because of the initial raving review it got.

Very low amount???
LS might have converted in tems of US dollars!!! Are u crazy for money, man??? Working for Kamal films is kind of paakkiyam ayya!! I think Kamal's decision is perfect…! the song sung by Kavitha Krishanamoorthy must be composed by LS, that’s why its missing now.

I keep getting myself into controversies but I can't help but voice my opinion on this.

You must know that people like Kamal and MR pay very low to those working for them. Many people have complained about MR, I read that. Kamal once stated that 'I am an expensive elephant' (translate this in tamil). I think Kamal should have stayed with LS. And what is so 'bhaagiyam' about working with Kamal. Don't tell me that he brought international standards to Tamil films. He's still trapped in that narrow Indian attitude about what english films mean. I think that even though Kamal is a great actor, IR's music really helped him out. Check out some of the fabulous music IR gave to his movies. Anyhow, it was unprofessional from both parts to not have disscussed financial matters at the start. I was looking forward to LS music in Hey Ram though, cuz he's such a great violin player. Now everything is messed up:-(

Guys... Kamal was on Rediff Chat today. I thanked him for going back to IR for Hey Ram, and also asked him if he was satisfied... he said that he liked the music and that he would not be alone in appreciating the musical score... (meaning it would be a hit, I guess).
I also asked him about the MD for Marud, and his answer was "Someone answer this guy:-)))" .

aruvi,
"narrow indian attitude about what english films mean"- kindly elaborate!!
firstly. am very suspicious about this "international standard". hollywood doesn't produce the best films of the world however by common knowledge it is regarded as international standard. by this standard, where "method acting" came in vogue in early half of this century, one mr.shivaji ganesan would be a pethetic actor!! can we agree to that?
anyway, coming bck to "heyram", by sheer track record, IR fits in as a better MD!
aruvi, sorry for you that LS missed the bus. i suppose its beter this way coz you can go to a katcheri/buy a cassette to listen to the great violinistrather than hin "messing up" a seemingly good movie!

neruppu:
well said and i too agree with you.it would be better for someone to listen to great violinists, vocalists etc in a traditional music concerts. Even T.N.Seshagopalan, T.V.Sankaranarayan etc are pretty good carnatic singers. If they are so does it mean that they can be good in creating good music for a movie.
Murali:
Why don't you check with Mail bag.he should have the CD's.Anyhow I shall be going there sometime today and then let you know tomorrow.

First of all, how did Sivaji come into this? I was giving my views on Kamal and the likes of his movies. Sivaji is an excellent actor who's worst film is watchable by the performance that he gives. Cannot say the same for Kamal, because acting apart, (I) am not pleased with most of his films. If you want to know more about Kamal's opinion on films, their standards and such, I suggest that you do some research on your own. He is not a subject that interests me.
Anyway, coming back to 'Hey Ram', did I say that IR wasn't fit to do it. I am happy that IR finally got a good movie that is being made for the world audience. But I would have been more happy if IR had been Kamal's first choice! The issue here isn't about IR's calibre. And btw, what gives you the idea that LS will mess up a 'seemingly' good movie?

When IR can try his hand in making a raaga and singing carnatic songs, why then is there a question about how well those people will compose for a movie?

In LS interview, I don't understand the part " IR did not intimate me before taking kamal's offer".??? .. What does he mean.?
And also there was no necasstiy to say " IR learnt music from my father ".. How does that matter here .?? He was making it appear as though IR was ungrateful.?? What non-sense is this.??
Cheers

It can also mean that he is saying IR is a friend. Someone that he knows. I have a feeling that he is just saying that he is cool with IR doing it.

aruvi,
come on!! obviously LS is not cool with it! only looks like he is venting out his anger there. maybe he is more angry with kamal. But tracing back IR's relations with his dad is not to show his closeness but only to belittle him. When he says "BUT Ilayaraja has stepped in even without intimating me. It's okay" do you get the feeling he is o.k. about it?
But I cant understand why L.Subbu is blaming Kamal for back-biting! I think this is the first interview by anyone concerned in this issue and if anyone has to be accused of spilling the beans it is LS himself!
p.s: i brought in shivaji issue just to say that "international standard" that you were talking about doesn't really mean much. Even I agree that Shivaji is a better actor than Kamal, though i don't share your enthu to watch even his worst movies!-))

Aruvi,
In fact IR was the kamal's first choice for HeyRam. For some reason IR initially rejected the
offer. It was discussed here.

For ref...
But you were to do He Ram! What went wrong there?
Kamal Hassan approached me and I thought I would do the score. We were to even use an Australian orchestra in one sequence. Not being conversant with the film industry, I did not discuss money and thought he would pay me a fair sum. Instead, he offered me a very low amount and then spread a lot of canards about me, which hurt me more. The figure he claimed I was asking for was a figment of his imagination. He even implied that I wanted it deposited in my sons' bank account when they -- as eight-year-old and 11-year-old kids -- do not even want a bank account!
He also wanted me to get Ben Kingsley for the brief role of Mahatma Gandhi, since one of my close friends is also close to Ben. I did try on his behalf. I also got him a specific shloka he needed by consulting the Sankaracharya. The next thing I knew is that he has given a statement that Sankaracharya is making an appearance in his film! How can he demean a person of that stature this way?
Ilayaraja has re-done your four songs...
It's fine by me. Ilayaraja has learnt his ropes form my father. He was the composer of Kamal Hassan's Marudanayagam -- I gave him respect by turning down Kamal Hassan's offer to score the background music for its international version. But Ilayaraja has stepped in even without intimating me. It's okay.

I told this some time ago, it might be due to kamal!....it is true now.
I think it is not right for LS to comment on raja.
Musically! raja is far superior than LS any day.
