Ok guys, I saw AP on Friday here in Dallas. To say in short about the movie, "it was one of the most decent movies I've seen in the recent past". Let me not try to review the movie. But let me try to post my 2 cents on the music/BGM. As I had mentioned earlier in my posts, soundtrack was disappointing for a Mani's movie (this was the comment in the theatre crowd too). But the highlight was the photography of P.C.Sreeram. He had given extra life to the not so lively songs. Wonderful photography esp in the song "pachai nirame".
BGM, really nothing to mention. There was not one single piece which got into my memory. The only BGM piece in the movie was the song "snehidane", which kept on repeating. I don't wanna start a "kozhai adi sandai", but I felt if IR had teamed with Mani for this movie, we could have seen an another Mouna Raagam+Idhayathai Thiridathe.

Thanks Kiru !! I was just wondering what is the difference in buying RAMIY/KING/BAR CD's compared to SAREGAMA/PYRAMID/BHASKY ! Anyway, good to know that there wont be any problem in the CD quality as such. I will try to find out why does it abrubtly stop playing the CD and also sometimes doesn't resume. This happens only with this CD.
BTW, I saw "ALAI PAAYUDHE". Like Swami, even I feel the movie is a decent one. I also feel an effective BGM would have lifted the movie. Does anyone know if ARR did it or Sabesh Murali. I too noticed that only the song "Snehidane" is repeated. The movie strongest point is P.C.Sreeram's photography.

Happened to see AP today. Very ordinary movie with very very ordinary music. Three songs sound good with the movie (maybe due to the picturization - one good example is "pachai niramae" - PCS viLayaandirukkar). Otherwise, the movie sucks big time. BGMa? ARR musicna BGM pathi ellam pesa koodaadhu:-((

hi,
I had seen AP on Saturday in chennai. Really disappointing for a MR movie. Nothing is impressive. Things that stand out in the movie are PC Sriram's photography, 3 real good songs and the way they hav been picturized.

Let me give my opinion of the music of AP. Before that, let me introduce myself as an ardent fan of IR, who appreciates others including ARR when they give good music.
AP's music is okay considering that it is a film of MR and ARR. "Snehidhanae" was my favourite; the lyrics were also good. "Pachhai niramae" was good, but the lyrics pretty unintelligible (maybe due to the theatre's sound system). "Kaadhal sadugudu" is hummable. The Swarnalatha song comes in a low sound as background. "September..." is trash considering both the music and story aspects. "Yaaro yaaroadi..." is okay. "Alai paayudhae..." is also okay if you can bear remixes of keerthanais. No comments are required on the background score. Overall, this movie is below the average MR-ARR film.

Krishnan,
I find Ramiy CDs are poor in quality compared to Pyramid and Basky. One question I always had is why can they come up with better covers? (even Pyramid). Only one or two (Uyirea) CD covers had a theme. Also Ramiy CDs don't have lyrics (Pyramid used to have lyrics for the big banners). And Ramiy CDs have spelling mistakes and sometimes even the songs are in the wrong order and so on. I think for the amount of money and time the composers/producers spend, the CD makers should do a better job in the presentation of CDs.
EMI CDs usually have very good quality. Watch out there are so many counterfit CDs and Pirated CDs out there. Anything you buy from Jeya & brothers (Toronto) or its resellers are pirated materials. One day I mentioned that to him, and he admitted it proudly!

Guys,
AP is a decent movie with good songs, nice camera work by PC Sriram. But the BGM is really out of place. In most of the scenes, ARR plays some pianno tunes which are totally out of place for the scenes. It does not conveys the right kind of emotions.
ARR may also claim it to be the new trend in BGM and people may start liking it. You never know!

Ajit: Just curious, does Jeya brothers of Toronto have any connection with Jaya Chandrasekhar (w/o Shawn Chandrasekhar of ATN) whose u*ly face intermittently shows up in their broadcasts. The reason I ask is, this kind of thiruttu fits perfectly in their repertoire.

go to the movie with out any expection! you will enjoy the movie!
AP is a very good movie from MR after a long time.
some nice songs and nice camera work.
as far the story goes! nothing new, its old wine and old bottle(from rediff). but it is served by MR. its a great movie i liked it and i hope it will be hit for MR after a long time.
Regarding BGM, i feel its better then any other movie that is coming out these days, if you see Braveheart, you will find some music does not go very well with the movie or the plot, but the movie got oscar for the BGM.
AP with IR would have been more bad then with ARR.
forget about old MR movies and IR creative music.
the point is IR is not what he was! i am sorry to say that. old IR don;t need MR to get Music from him. it would have flowed itself for every movie he composes.
so forget about the IR and MR combo.
go the movie and have fun!
to end, its a nice movie.
what happen to KKKK any review about it

BraveHeart has excellent BGM goes with the scenes. It made me to buy the CD. yy you should use some other third rated foreign movies to given an excuse for ARR's shortcomings with BGM.

BraveHeart has good BGM. But If you see these movies with the Irish/Scottish background, they all have the same haunting bagpiper music with the same tune. I doubt if the BGM in BraveHeart was original. I guess it is by this James Horner guy who did the same Irish/Scottish score for 'TITANIC' too. My point is they are not too original in Hollywood also.
