Does anyone know how much IR gets paid for a movie? When lousy heroes make 30, 40 lakhs for
a movie, IR getting less than 10 lakhs per movie
seems outrageous.

Hi,
I know ther are lot of fans for LS in this forum, I am a big fan of LS for many years, but some how this guy's statement are not very mature when he is talking about IR or Kamaml,Visiri you said it very well,
If IR learnt music from LS's father, "avunga Appan kooda daan yaaro orutharoda father kitte irundhu daane katthu kittaru, he is not the Trinty or a devine soul who just appeared from sky, why even LS would have learnt from some body's father, look at his arrogance....total absurd
on the contarary
And the controversy -- Ilaiyaraja stepped in to compose the songs after Kamala Hasan and L Subramaniam fell out. A TV interviewer asked him about it. Ilaiyaraja merely said, "Subramaniam is a good friend, he has played for me." In other words, no hard feelings here?
Long Live IR

Interesting. But why are Kamal and LS slinging so much mud at each other?

And its also interesting to see that the three songs that kamal has told that he likes in the album are the same songs that many of us here like, i.e. hey ram(which created a very good first impression), isayil thodanguthama and nee paartha paarvai. He also talks about the similiarity of ajay's song to an earlier hindi song by KJY(from chitchor) though Iam not sure if he is right. (this also brings the question that why did he chose the tunes of madanabhaanam and ramaraanalum etc. perhaps was raja opearting under severe constarints in for those songs and could'nt do much??)
Goes to prove that Kamal has a very good music sense far better than the likes of KS ravikumar, P. vasu, RV udayakumar etc. who just used to fall at raja's feet adn beg him to give them some good tunes unlike kamal who sits with raja, enthuses him to improvise and is not satisfied till he gets what he wanted.

First of all why did Kamal chose anyone other than Raja for "Hey Ram"? Raja has produced outstanding music for Kamal so far.
Despite the constraints that he is composing music for scenes already shot, I think that Raja has done great job.

madhan, theres nothing new in that vikatan article. As naga mentioned it is but a text version of IR's sun tv interview with some info like KR recording the whole recording on a camcorder and kamal visibly enjoying the notes and so on. maybe the camcorder recording can be an evidence to counter symphony skeptics!!-)))))

But, Madhan & neruppu..why this vikatan article harps on calling the bgm as a `symphony score' through out?
I don't think Raja claims this as a `symphony' himself, except that the score is WCM & the recording carried out with some Hungarian `Budapest symphony orchestra'! Does that make the composition a symphony?

...mmm, after hanging around in this DF for a while, looks like I've become another `symphony sceptic':-)

I got a chance to see "Time" on video yesterday. The main reason for me to pick up that movie was to see the picturization of "niram piriththu paarthEn". Guess what, this song was truncated in the video cassette. It had a bit of the start and bit of the end - about 30 seconds in all. I was utterly disappointed.
According to me, this is THE BEST given by Raja for a long long time, but someone had no sense to include it in the video. People have lost their finer taste for music.. Made me really wonder if Raja is wasting his time & energy on TFM!!

John williams once said that if BGM has to be grand, it has to be 'symphonic'. So the BGM for 'hEy rAm' will be 'symphonic'. It cannot be called a symphony the music will follow the visuals and will not have pure musical structure.
I have added some references from an online dicitionary.
Symphony \Sym"pho*ny\, n.; pl. {Symphonies}. [F. symphonie (cf. It. sinfonia), L. symphonia, Gr. ?; sy`n with + ? a sound, the voice. See
{Phonetic}.] 1. A consonance or harmony of sounds, agreeable to the ear, whether the sounds are vocal or instrumental, or both.
The trumpets sound, And warlike symphony in heard around. --Dryden.
2. A stringed instrument formerly in use, somewhat resembling the virginal.
With harp and pipe and symphony. --Chaucer.
3. (Mus.) (a) An elaborate instrumental composition for a full orchestra, consisting usually, like the sonata, of three or four contrasted yet
inwardly related movements, as the allegro, the adagio, the minuet and trio, or scherzo, and the finale in quick time. The term has recently
been applied to large orchestral works in freer form, with arguments or programmes to explain their meaning, such as the ``symphonic
poems'' of Liszt. The term was formerly applied to any composition for an orchestra, as overtures, etc., and still earlier, to certain
compositions partly vocal, partly instrumental. (b) An instrumental passage at the beginning or end, or in the course of, a vocal composition;
a prelude, interlude, or postude; a ritornello.
From WordNet (r) 1.6 (wn)
symphony n 1: a long and complex sonata for symphony orchestra [syn: {symphonic music}] 2: a large orchestra; can perform symphonies;
"we heard the Vienna symphony" [syn: {symphony orchestra}]
