Hey guys,
What about songs from Sagakalla Vallavan?
- From: Mano (@ eislib2.uwaterloo.ca)

I don't see anything wrong with,
'Sindhiya Penmani..' and 'Raathiriyil Poothirukum' song. If we say that these songs are vulgar, then I can say that almost all of the songs belongs to this category. As ARR said in one interview, that you can have two meaning for 'Puthu Vellai Mazhai..' song.
How do you catogorize these songs, 'A kutti Munnala..' from Indu. I don't want to write the whole lyrics. Anyone have an answer?

raghavan,
sagalakala vallavan was a trendsetter for the following reasons:
1. worse lyrics
2. picturisation with bad taste
3. silk smitha dance
4. s.janaki's munagal songs
the fact that this film was a hit, started the trend of kuppai films like this which would ruin tamil movie quality and would persist till the early nineties!
i personally hate kamal the pervert for starting this trend.

Dear guys
The trendsetter for vulgar songs was actually IR.
He has composed innumerable songs with "AAA....
..SSSSS, HMMMMM.. INBETWEEN THE LYRICS with sounds
similar to copulating. eg
1. Nethu rathri emma..
2. Nila kayude..(the worst infACT)
3. Ponmeni Urugude...
Infact IR takes 1st prize for maximum songs banned by AIR. ARR doesn't give cheap copulating sounds inbetween the lyrics. The idea of mixing cheap sounds in between lyrics was started by IR. Thank god ARR doesn't follow it.
In fact IR had the audacity to give the song "ERU MAYIL ERU" as BGM when Bhagyaraj f.... his wife in the film CHINNA VEDU. My foot.
A big list of all his cheap songs will be supplied on request.(cheap, not of lyrics, but sounds that aim to imitate primal urges ).He infact mixes slokas also in duets. Funny.

Hi Folks,
I feel, if the lyricists involve male chauvanism in their songs also, it is considered as a pollution.
We have a song from "Par magale paar" which is "neerordum vaigaiyile nindradum meene"
In this song, the hero will say
" Nan kathal ennum kavithai sonnen kattilin mele"
Female: Antha "karunaikku" nan parisu thanthen thottilin mele.
I just cant digest the line which KD has potrayed as female singing to her husband.
How can he describe as Karunai which is one among the Nava Rasa which will come only when we pity someone. This line is written in such a way, that only female needs everything and to satisfy it he is doing some great sacrifice.
I absolutely hate this line. I am sorry if i have made my comments vulgar.

One more song from VM in "puthiya mugam"
The song is "Kannukku mai azhagu, kavithaikku poi azhagu"
Excellent song by VM. superb lyrics.
But whats the use. He spoiled the whole song
by just one line which is absolutely vulgar.
The line "vidiyum varai penn azhagu".
This line just treats women as sex objects and
nothing else. I cant believe how VMs thoughts
can go like this

hi
1) Chippikull muthu movie had a song that goes
like "Sindhiya Venmani sippiyil muthaachu"
and not "sindhiya penmani". Now I guess its
clear why ppl shun from listening to this song
with their family. It has great music though.
2) Paar magale paar has this nice song "neerodum"
Radha has misunderstood the lyrics. "karunai"
means "pitying someone" usually. but it is
not the only menaing of that word. It also has
the following meanings
1) love shown towards family (bro/sis/parents)
2) love from wife to husband
3) love from husband to wife
4) love shown on any living being
Please check with "kazhagath thamizh agarathi"
or any tamil dictionary. They list a number of
meanings to this word and all these have been
used for thousands of years and are still
being used.
kannadasan used this word, in my guess, to
have "monai" -> "kaadhalenum" & "karunai"
in the song.. So you need not feel bad and hate
that beautiful song.

Hi folks,
I agree with Radha's postings. Women are always treated as sex objects who are living at the mercy of male.
Have you listened to the song ' Malare Kurinji Malare' from Doctor Sivaa?
It's a great song with great tune and well sung by KJY. But, check out the lyrics, you will find the peak of male chauvanism there in representing the female as the flowers used for worshipping the male.
Regards,
Albert

Hi guys,
I am new to discussion, but I wish to answer for radha sanjay,KD has portrayed an important aspect of married life with so much beauty and dignity
the act of love making betn husband and wife is portrayed as true love and the act itself is equated to a beautiful poetry, the empahasis is on the word 'kavithai' and the answer by the wife also pertains to the dharma of thambathiya ,the karunai here also can have a metamorphic meaning ,coz kavithai is a thing which gives u immense joy, so the wife is also thanking the husband for making the act a enjoyable one, this verse is not vulgar but a beautiful poetic representation, and there is no male chauv in here.
poetic liberty gives the poet enough room to represent rasa in his verses, even kamban has some great verses which can amt to pornographic literature (ref : Arignar Annas Kamba rasam) but it again depends upon the perspective of the reader, but the line betn porno and poem is transgresses when the poet does not give a spritual or sobering imagination to rasa and tries to put things semantically.the current songs in tamil movies mostly come into this category, this shows dearth of imagination or constraints faced by the poet in the industry, who is to blame any answers

hi
1) Malare song is a very nice song. In the movie,
lovers get married. The song is written for
that situation. the lines
"thalaivan sooda nee pirandhai..
pirandha payanai nee adainthai"
are real good. Flowers and ornaments are
the only matereialistic things which we can use
to decorate "swami" in hindu religion and of them
flowers are preferred. Flowers are praised enough
in all tamil books.
There are so many poems, songs that talk about
men and women decorating themselves with flowers.
Also, "illarame nallaram" and so many verses
say that "married life is the best life". So
getting married is considered to be one of the
best things that could happen in a male/female's
life.
In this song the girl is compared to a flower.
And getting married to her lover is depicted
as "thalaivan sooda nee pirandahi.. "
So I dont see anything wrong with this song.
If we try to find a bad meaning for everything,
then I dont think that we can even speak normal
language.
ever heard songs from "indu" , a song in which
kushboo goes to market and prabudeva sings...
There are many bad songs. But it is not fair to
see bad menaing in any "uruvagam" or "uvameyam".

1. has anyone heard the song 'pallikkodam pogalaamaa...' sung by SPB and janaki from the movie 'Koil Kaalai'
it is the height of vulgarity. There are so many ways to describe the art of love making but definitely not like the way as it is done in this song...
2. how about 'sivaraathiri...thookkam edhu..?' from 'michael madhan kaamarajan'. Both the lyrics and the visuals are extrememly vulgar. It is really cheap...
anyone to comment on this?

Hi,
I agree totally with albert on the song malare kurunji malare,it is an aberration and totally male chavunistic,it is a retrogressive poem made beautiful by the music.
vulagrity in tamil songs are actually making early sex a reality in our schools.next time if father says we have sivarathri coming the kid will assume some other thing than waking up all night and thinking abt god.thanks to VM we have a new interpretation of sivarathri.
and Vali the man who writes ramayanam in AV his song in the movie hindu peaks in vulgarity
the verses
uralu onnu inga irukku and ........ so on it is nothing but yellow journalism,He is a real hypocrite also another song by the same gentleman in the same movie
uttaalakadi sevatha tholu thaan
uthupaathaa ulla theriyuthu naidu hallu thaan
what a disgusting piece but rather than harping on the lines our discussion should dwell on why it is like that,we all know vulgar songs are there but why any answers???

what do you think of this song?
iravukkum pagalukkum ini enna velai
ithayathil vilunthathu thirumana maalai
vuravukkum vurimaikkum piranthathu kolam
iruvar enbathe illai ini naam oruvar enbathe vunmai
paathi thookkathil koonthalai thadavi rasippathil inbam...
paathi paathiyai iruvarum maari palagum vithaiye inbam
kavignar sonnathu konjam ini naam kaanapovathu manjam...
