nagas,
the music is by IR. during the clips, they show his pic. i could barely catch the tune of a song they were playing, but it sounded a lot like a kariskakkaattu poove song.

NagaS, the song was not by Sujatha, but by Malgudi Shubha. She wrote and sang the song herself ... I remember hearing about this in some interview of hers, and I also had a original cassette that listed her as the lyricist.
Sujatha, I thought, wrote some songs for a YSR movie -- not sure which one.

Yaaro.,
I am 100% sure Sujatha wrote the dialogues for naadodith thendRal., I saw it in the titles.,
Not sure whether Malgudi Subha/Sujatha/IR wrote that 'kaathal paattuthaan' song., But all other songs and the story are by IR.
Karthik,
YSR used one small kavithai by Sujatha in his album 'Blast' and pyramid audio included sujatha's photo in the cassette just for popularity, Other than this, He hasn't written any songs for albums/movies.,
That small kavithai I am talking about comes in his short story 'Jillu'
'Ellaamee Ingu
saththangaL, veRum saththangaL
GuNdukaL eRinthu,
KuuraikaL erinthu,
peNdu, piLLai, vayothikaraik kondRu kuvippathu
yaarudaiya pozuthupookku ?'
Kamal sings(??) these lines in the middle of 'SippikkuLLee muthhtai yaar vaiththaar' song in 'The Blast'.,

"See musiccurry there is no update for quite sometime"
This means that there is nothing new going on in TFMPage. We have to pull up our socks and start an innovative thread. Poor musiccurry.com is running out of stuff.

Here is an excerpt from Merle Haggard interview- an ageing country music superstar, in the SanFrancisco Chronicle sunday edition.
-----------
With these musicians these days, theres a lot of catering to the bubblegum side of life rather than paying tribute to the older guys whose they used before they had any of their own. I dont see that happening, more from a lack of thought than a lack of desire. Mostly, I hear people want to know how much money does it generate and does the desired age bracket like it. We've got to give them their pablum. y'know.
It is going away and it is worthy of being passed down. But the quality of things we did compared with whats going on today ..His voice drifted off.
All the patterns have been laid and cut and all the trails blazed, I guess, he continued. They just take the beaten paths and make them ELECTRONICALLY perfect. (The last two words are spoken with utter comtempt)
Everybody's always wanting to know how to get into country music, Haggard said. I want to know how to get the f--- out of country music.
-------------------------------
Does this apply to TFM ?
:)
(This is a repost from another thread, mainly to drown out the noise in DF these few days :))

I was listening to the album "Avaarampoo", scored by IR and direcyed by Bharathan. Man it was a mind blowing one. I feel due to the unknown cast in the movie the songs (like many of his works) went unnoticed. Esp the song "mandhiram" by KJY was out of the world. If anyone has a chance to listen to that song, look for the interlude in the second stanza. No wonder (IMHO) there is no one to replace him till today as a true composer and charmer.

IR is the best in the music. So he can give very very good music.Recent IR movies songs and BGM are very good and unbeatable. For example Friends,Bharathi,Andan Adimai and many more to come.Is IR Kathal Satthi songs are out?Andan Adimai songs are very good. All the best to IR and his family.

A digression - does anyone know what's going on with top 10 and the opinion poll on tfmpage's home page? Most of the entries are zeroed out and you can't even vote. I wrote an e-mail to the administrator a few days ago and I do not see anything changing...

Normal man
Have you listened to the pre-recorded company cassette for 'AvArampU'? After 2/3 songs, there is a melancholic flute piece for 2 mins or so. The next song 'adukkumalli' starts with a joyous flute piece. The effect caused by these contradicting flute pieces...........

Aavaarampoo was shot so beautifully (Location: Nagercoil, Kanyakumari) and was a good movie (except for the avoidable side-track story of a teen-age mallu boy's escapades with a sex-bomb.. supposedly a comedy track... poor director had to listen to the distributors)!
That was teh Late Bharatan's 1st Tamil film I think. The 2nd and the last was the classic Thevar Magan.
Nandini (yester year actress Aruna's sister), Vineet and Nasser starred in the film (Goundamani in a character role with shades of gray).
The highlight of the film was of course MUSIC. The BGM was excellent and so were the songs.
Sadly, like many other IR gems in the past, this too, went unnoticed.
"Sami kitta" is a number that's very good.
There's a haunting Janaki solo (I forgot the lines) with a double-violin accompaniment... very rustic, very real.

Neels,
There r many good songs in avaarampoo. The song u r referring is NATHIYODUM KARAIYORAM ORU RAAGAM... Beautiful melody! The other songs include, manthiram ithu, adukku malli edutthu vandhu. As a whole, it's an excellent movie with great songs and BGM!!!

IR's latest album "Kathal jathi" released in chennai today.Listened to the songs just once
and IMO a good album by IR.Nice use of the flute
in most of the songs.
1.Manase Em manase-Unnikrishnan,Bhavatharini
A slow melody with some nice interludes. The
charanam was particularly impressive.Altogether
an above average song IMO.I liked the voice of
Bhava which I generally don't.Unnikrishnan was
as usual good.
2.kannimara koyilile-Harini
A superb melody in which the flute plays a
major role throughout the song.Harini's voice
was pleasant.Though the starting of the pallavi
reminded me of the title song of the film
Poonthotta kavalkaran, the entire course of the
song changed after that.altogether a beautiful
song.
3.Pottalakaatule - KR and YSR sing together this
foot tapping number. One thing I found hard it
was tough to differentiate between the voices of
the brothers. The second interlude was impressive.
I think I will start liking this number after a
few more listenings.Nothing more special about this song.
4.Enna Maranthalum - IR
The master is here.A trademark IR melody in all aspects.IMO the best song of the album. This song falls in the list of yenge sellum in sethu, ninnai
charen in Bharathi and so on.A soul stirring melody.
5.Kaathe Kaathe-Karthik
Again a nice melody with an excellent use of the
flute.Karthick sounds ok but I think a better
singer could have been employed.A good use of folk
type instruments in the 2nd interlude.Ilayarajavu
kku ithellam pudhusu illa.A very nice melody
altoghether. One more worth mentioning aspect is that this is the repeated song in the cassette.
6.Nethukudutha-karthick
A song with a nice rhythm and a good tune though
simple. The charanam was good in particular.I liked
the voice of karthick better in this song. A fine
rhythmic melody reminding much of 80's IR.
7.Enna maranthalum-Mahathi
I liked the IR version better.I think the singer
is a newcomer.
8.Anne anne-YSR,KR,venkatprabhu.
Again the brothers join for this typical Dappan-
guthu song.Nothing much to write about this song.
9.Pathiyai vittu pirincha-Kovai kamala
A typical folkish number with a slight devotional
touch.Lot of dialogues in the interludes.I liked
this song but I'am not too sure how many would.
Lyrics were impressive.IR uses Kovai kamala after
a long time (sethu).Altogether a good song.
10.Kaathe-repeat song
IR has also penned all songs. One common feature in most songs is that lot of dialogues are there
in the beginnings and interludes which I think
will be meaningful only when the songs are seen
along with the film.
