Does IR not deserve atleast a padma shri if MS can get Bharat ratna

  It is a pity that a topic like this has degenerated into personal affronts against individuals and classes. Upper class and middle-class - I mean what the hell! If we are all on this forum, it is because music is the common thread. And this is a DISCUSSION Forum not a fighting stage. Will it not be better to keep any acrimony out of our discussions?
  
  My aim in not to praise the one and pillory the other. The topic makes sense - in a way. If at all IR has to receive an award, why should it stop at the Padmashri?
  
  Both MS and IR have done enough and more to deserve the awards. As discussed in another thread, awards do not make the artist. It is a reflection of our ignorance if we decide on the merits or otherwise of an artist based on the awards received.
  
  Let music be above these petty thoughts.

  Where is MS? Where is IR? No comparison at all! IR was just a successful MD doing light music in novelty with the LIGHT MUSIC FORMULA CREATED BY THE ONE AND THE ONLY MAESTRO M.S.VISWANATHAN. You can call IR a latest melody trend modifier only. MS took Classical music to masses along with doyens like Sirkazi Govindarajan. MSV took the film light music to the masses with Kannadasan and others. KVM, MSV and other stalwarts are yet to get their Padmashri identity. IR should realise what and where he stands before aspiring. He is neither a trend setter like MSViswanathan nor ARR to make the world over sing Vande Mataram (for which he was honoured).
  
  MSV can be compared to MS(MS Subbulakshmi who got Bharat Ratna), but SURELY NOT IR!

  i have one question to prabu who has given his views on this topic. do u know anythimg about music or illayaraja?if arr deserves a padmashri IR deserves bharat ratna. dont compare music remixers like rahman to the maestro. for ur kind information i've collected 47 songs from which arr copied, its shorly going to be released in a web site(most probably musiccurry.com)
  arr is no where near to the genius of IR.

  When the heart of a music lover is shaken by a musician, then he or she is the real musician, be it a commercial musian like a film-music-director or a classic musician. As per me a talented musician should and must be talented just as a talented one. And when it comes to the matter of awards, its just a formal respect shown by the award commities. When a musician like Ilayaraja or M.S.Subbalakshmi has reached a perticular stage in their fields, they are not obligated to be recognised just by awards. I never prefer comparison between anything under the sun. Anand(lover of all sorts of music but not of the awarded musicians)

  Mithun Chakravarthy got an award of some kind a long time ago.. if i remember. but Sivaji Ganesan was not honoured on the same lines...

  lata and ms subbulakshmi rightfully deserved their barat ratnas. they have been the true ambassodors of india and their career span goes through several generations. the sound of their names is enough and it spells divinity.these two ladies have the power of love affection and peace in person and the vibes through their voices.

  U r comparing the greatest indian with much great composer of our time.

  Dei...bunch of idiots who put balderdash on th web....MS is a saint.....Ilayaraja is a commercial musician.The simplicity, humbleness and the music from MS cannot be compared to IR.IR has whacked hell a lot of songs from western music and other forms.
