Ilaiyaraja has to change style radically to be accepted by the growing City audience

  I am repaeting myself on this. I beleive Raja's music is still very innovative. Let's take Kanaglin Varthaigal. I did not hear the tamil version of these songs but the Kannada version (the original) Nammora Manthara Hoove also by IR was superb. Let me note some of the movies since '92 and you tell me if this what you call not the same class of music. Devar magan, Ejaman, Valli, Uzhaipali, Athma, Uzhaippali, Veera, Rajakumaran, Kattumarakaran, Mahanathi, Pudupatti Ponnuthayee, Oru oorile oru Rajakumari, Nanthavana Theru, Avatharam, Irratai Roja, Periya Kudumbam, Siraichalai, Poovarasan, Poomani, Chandaralekha, Raman Abdullah, Moga Mull, Devadhai, Punniyavathi, Kadavul, Vasugi, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Veerathaluttu, Annan, Kizhakum Merkum. That's about 30 movies. I know if I've missed atleast another 5 movies in which the songs were excellent. (IV sasi movie for example) Listen to all the songs in these movies. there are songs in these movies that are so innovative that are unparelled during this time. Yet, there are people going around creating the perception Raja's music is not the same. That's bull! If the same songs were packaged as ARRs, then the press and you guys would be all over it. During the same time span, the press articles promoting ARR and degrading IR. That's what is happening. If you take pure quality of music, the composition , the innovation, the melody - then Ilayaraaja is still supreme.

  Hi folks,
  
  For the first time we get to see IR's score for two songs in Dr. Balaji's new site, has any one seen that?
  
  One for the song Adho Andha Nathiyoram from Ezhai Jaathi, a Vijayakanth/Jayapradha film. This is a song with very great symphony like orchestration with heavy strings and brass and, of course, haunting chorus bits in varied forms as solo and groups.
  
  The other song is Pudhucheri Katcheri from Singaravelan.
  
  Probably some of you guys who are more knowledgeable about music can throw more light on these and enlighten ordinary mortals like us.

  Ilayaraaja can't be compared with anyone simply because he doesn't copy from others, his music is enchanting,soul stirring,not repetitive,melodious and above all divine. He's a strict disciplinarian which he clearly brings out in his choice of raags,the way he uses them in his music. He is a master of both carnatic and Western Music. He composes music according to he needs of the film, be it village subject or City subject or any other type of film. All the newspapers and magazines may tell a different story which they tell according to their needs. But, his fans all over the world will vouch for the purity,originality and divinness in his songs and they won't distance themselves from his music.Men may come and men may go, but his songs will remain the hearts of fans forever.
