The lyrics really stand out in the songs of HeyRam. The songs will be more enjoyable with the movie and be integral to it, which will only add to the merit of the movie as a whole.

Srikanth,
The songs in KN and HR are much much better
than Time. But according to your reviews
they are other way around. I respectfully
disagree with your opinions. Yeah, tastes are different and thanks for your reviews though :))
Visiri:
Yeah, Raaja has kicked off Y2000 with bang. I
can't wait to get hold of background score of HR
which is going to be released as a separate album.

Hi guys,
It is really interesting with in less than 20 hours of uploading HEY RAM songs there are 347 page hits already and a record number of 95 page hits during 5 PM Eastern Standard Time alone. Kudos to Maestro Ilaiyaraja for bringing out a brilliant album.
Regards

I just heard Hey Ram on G Suresh's site. Very good.. hmm may be not excellent but very good.
Visiri's review, though a appreciative one, is on the dot.
Srikanth exposes himself as an unfair and biased critic. With condescending stmnts like -
typical rAja stuff, pathetic beats, need ARR here etc.
raghupathi rAghav song though not done with real instruments sounds very good.
Asha Bhosle's pronounciation is a minus point in the next song. Otherwise it is fantastic.
Good guitar backing and contrapuntal vocal humming. Melodious is the word.
IRs 80s version song for the future.
The folksy song is a medely. So it does not stay in memory.
The 'vaishnavo janato' song is also a sort of medley. But it is better the prev one.
Ajay Chakraborthy song is very good song. If it has been recycled it is orchestrated refreshingly.
This guy with better diction can get a good innings in TFM singing classic sounding songs for IR.
'ramaranalum' is a catchy song. has a familiar IR sound to it (for this type of song). But not bad at all.
Overall, the album has a refreshing and enthusiastic feel to it. He is also getting better with keyboard/electronic instruments. Maybe IR is only now getting out of his ennui.
Anybody, especially go for the CD.

MPR,
you are right KN and Hey Ram is on the whole better than 'Time'.

even i would have given 2 out of 10 for the last song. simply does'nt fit in this album. the north indian folk song was also pretty ordinary. I guess the songs when heard as a separate musical album would not create as much as effect as seeing them along with the movie. The sudden change to WC scores at the end of the asha song can be clearonly when we see the movie.
another thing possible is that raja might have retained LS's scores for some of the songs adding his touches here and there.

Srikanth,
Nothing personal here .. Excuse me if i am wrong in asking this -- could u pls do a review of Mouna Raagam , Johnny or Nayagan , OR Annakili ( one of these )..Not b'cos I like these albums but just to see how IR's albums would have fared had u reviewed his albums 10 -15 yrs before.
Just wondering how it would turn out to be ..
Like MPR I agree that tastes differ and u may not like what i like, but what beats me is the way u seem to kill every song concluding with " nothing special here .., usual rajaish stuff, 2/10 etc..
nobody expects u to rave abt every IR Album here but i can't understand the way u analyze the merits or rather find de-merits !!!
Just beats me.. Hmmmmm...
Cheers

hai guys.... well atleast IR is famous in this forum.... its a pity.... many of his albums in the last 2 years went totally unnoticed in cassette sales.... i don't know why.... let's hope KN, HR does some good cassete sales...

aruvi,
did you listen to the HR songs?. with your poetic talents (ref-unga 'neruppu' kavithai)you must have something to say about the lyrics!-)))

Aiyya...did you like that poem. I was worried that I went too far on the last line. About Hey Ram, if I say anything, I will be in Rameshb and Srikanths situation. There's no way I can evaluate it fairly and still not have 'you just want to make fun of IR' attacks:-). So VenavE vEnaam.

suren,
Pl. refrain from using words like sucks and for heaven's sake stop personal attacks on anyone. attack srikanth's arguments not srikanth himself. I see what srikanth sees here, when he praises TIME people support him and when he criticises people trash him. Now I dont know who is biased here? everone is entitled to his or her own opinions. even in my opinion hey ram is good but not great. I was one of the first to lavishly praise raja for his GURU. and even till today no one includng IR has come up with an album matching that. But at the same time when IR starts giving run-of-the-mill type songs as in KN it irritates me. And to an even more discerning listener like srikanth I can imagine how annoying it would be sometimes. Though I myself might not agree with what srikanth has to say this is no way to treat a fellow DFer. And srikanth himself does not attack anyone personally. So, take it easy and make this place a cool one.

Vijay,
If I have to step in and say something on this, it would look like a personal attack on Srikanth. So only thing I want to say is, his review had a very condescending attitude. To be fair to everybody, you may want to advice him on how to write reviews without a load of attitude in them.
