Regarding padayappa, It is a fact that the cassetes have sold more than a million copies in less than 5 days. Reason? Okay the immediate one is its rahman movie so sells like hot cakes and it is a rajini movie and sells like a hotter cake. If we are to listen to the songs we notice some deviations from the usual rahman stuffs. The songs pretty much suited to rajini's image. Remember when muthu was released people complained it is not suited to rajni's image and said rahman is not compatible. People, then, picked on this point to call the songs crap. Know the main criticism is the songs are not like the usal rahman songs, they are "rajiniish". Isn't that what "we" want?
When oruvan oruvan was released high class and city folks found it nice. But not villagers. Now with padayappa song , villagers find it great and city folks and higher class find it crap. Now isn't this what rajini wants? Remember vairamuthu's comment: "a good song is one which you hear when you pass a village and hear it being played." Padayappa(maybe besides oh kikku and vetri.) songs are such. Athanda ithanda from arunachalam* was such a song. Reason being simple it takes a great deal to make a simple song which even the illiterate can enjoy. In my opinion oruvan oruvan is the best intro rajini has had. But im sure this aint the case if you ask a villager. Most of us(atleast 99.999999%) being educated, we are interested in western and so on.
Whatever we say rahman has delivered what rajni has asked for perfectly, which has so far satisfied a million and will most probably satisfy another dozen million people from TN. This in my opinion is not one of rahmans worst composition as many qouted , but simply it shows he is composing for trend but when required(like padayappa) can produce whatever is needed. In simple words rahman has once again proved himself.
*after listening to padayappa for only a couple of times it is far better than arunachalam, every single song is.

Mr.Gopal Srinivasan,
"Already ARR has had 5 releases this year - ESK, Jodi, Oonjal, PAdyappa and now KD. And not one to rave about."
Jodi and Oonjal are not original Tamil alums. Fans of ARR has been raving about ESK, and Padayappa has been catching on, plus from the clips KD sounds very promising.
I am sorry that ARR hasn't been able to satisfy IR fans (if you are one) this year, but exactly when did IR fans rave about any of ARR's albums? But I would like to thank IR fans for adding to ARR's popularity by rushing to by all of ARR's albums before we do, and keeping us informed on where all his latest samples are at.
"Time for the warning bells to ring?"
To be frank, NO! But keep praying, maybe in another 30 years or so you will get your wish.

Ram,
Manasey thethikka vendiyathu thaaan.Really the albums are not upto teh ARR mark.I am not saying this cos I am an IR fan.
Frankly none of the albums apart from ESK are goodd.
Please don't compromise for the sake of ARR.padayappa sold in miilons within 2 days cos--of RAJINI.
Did JODI or KD or ESK went like that?

I was listening to the Vetri Kodi song and have this observation to make:
Vaira Muthu's lyrics for this number have been obviously 'inspired' by ARUNAGIRINATHAR's THIRUPPUGAZH paadalgal.
Sample this line:
Vetrikkodi kattu Malaigalai Muttum Varai Muttu
Latchiyam Ettum Varai Ettu Padaiyedu Padayappa..
...
Vettukkiliyalla Nee oru Vettum Puliyendru
Pagaivarai Vetti Thalai Kondu Nadayedu Padayappa!
and compare it to the Thiruppugazh made famous by TMS: 'Muthai thiru' in the film Arunagirinathar!

Heard the samples of "Kathalar Dhinam" songs on the net. Most of the songs sounded like dubbed versions of Hindi Songs? Are these recycled from some ARR's hindi movie tunes like Jodi? The opening of the song "Roja Roja" sounded similar to the "Tu hai raja .../poovE poovE solai poovE..." song from Varumaiyin Niram Sigappu. The song "enna vilai azhagE" is a slightly modified copy of "chandiranaith thottathu yaar" from Ratchagan. And there is yet another "Dandya" song similar to the one ("Chinna chinna mazhai thuligal") in ESK. ARR is becomming too eco-friendly by recycling too much these days.

R.Balaji,
You admit ESK is good. Jodi and Oonjal have the same tunes and both were dubbed from Hindi. They are mediocre IMO. Plus KD haven't been released, there's just two minute samples of it. You are concluding the latter is of poor quality even before listening to it fully. It's another case of wishful thinking from an IR fan.

Hello Mr.Ram,
You are definitely entitled to your opinion just as I am to mine, but Let me clarify that you will find it tough to find more die-hard ARR fans than me

Ram,
In a way I am proud to be an IR fan cos whenever we comment something on ARR--it is always IR who is being dragged into the picture.Do you all get Deva,or Vidyasaagar or KR or anybody.
Its always IR.why? This shows that IR is competent enough to be talked about.
Apart from this--Frankly I don't havae any hard feelings against ARR music.I have his CD's with me too.
I had just told you my opinion and I came to argument when you went against Gopal's statements.
Anyway no hard feelings.
Cheers

Hi Guys:
Y do I recall "Alahu Malar Ada Abi Nayangal Kooda Silamboliyum Pulumbuvadai Kael Kael...." sung by SJ and Revathi danced for this song in the movie(I don't know, the name of the movie), when I listened to "Minsara Kanna.....". Is there at all any resemblence?

Balaji,
If you read my postings clearly you will see that I didn't drag in IR, just IR fans.
If you ask most ARR fans, they will tell you that IR is a great musician and there's no question he's competent enough to be talked about. We are not ignorant and have to critize another MD to make our MD appear to be a genius.
But have you also noticed that IR fans can't stop talking about ARR's new music? IF they really think he has no talent and copies a lot, then they wouldn't be so passionate about critizing him. You don't see ppl critizing Deva like this even though we know he copies most of the time and is popular.
No hard feelings here either.

Ram :
That is a valid point. We criticize ARR / IR because we know they are capable of producing good stuff.
Kadhalar dhinam - a review:
Summary : A good investment for the fans. A good album .
Details:
(1) Roja roja:
A good song slightly tarnished by the inexpressive voice of UK. The tune is fresh and ARR takes credits. The choral harmony is very appealing, the first interlude though very lengthy replicates in itself. On the whole it is pleasing.
(2) Enna Vilai:
The song's prelude is reminiscent of "My heart will go on" but NOT a copy of it. It is lengthy and based on flute. But the tune (as Srikanth can easily recognize :-) starts with a line "lifted" from an MSV's song (just two lines). The lyrics of the song I think are
"thangappadhakkaththin melE
oru muthu padhiththathu polE"
Once again ARR proves he is good in providing a soothing choral harmony.
(3)Kaadhalenum :
Seems like a fresh tune though the prelude is slightly reminiscent of "Sayyoni" and "vennilave". SPB has infused life into the song. Nothing great to rave about, but a good hindustani type melody.
(4) Oh maria:
A pop melody with nauseating lyrics like:
"kaDalukku fishing net
kaathalukku internet"
It is all set to take the dancing generation off.
(5) dhandiya:
This is a recycle of "Maanooththu mandhaiyiley" in a lilting fashion. The original is a "dappanguthu" though likeable too. this is a better version. Once again the lyricist proves that he is utterly intolerable.
(6) Nenaichapadi:
A shehnai prelude just like the one you hear in Vicco turmeric ad. But this is just to give an idea of how the song's general format is. A melody - neither good nor bad by ARR's standards.
The album OTW features relaxing tunes and hence one can safely invest.
All strictly IMO.
