Hi Srikanth....you need not send a search party for IR....this year the largest selling tamilfilm album so far has been 'kadalukku mariyadhai' of Raja and
the sale of 'jeans'album wore thin after initial success!!!
If you are a believer in the results of'top 10','top 20' countdowns, it stood in the first place for nearly 15 weeks and was among the top 10 for nearly 25 weeks.
The only silver lining to tfm's future could be that Raja is still around and is quite successful in spite of the cacophony which goes around as music and has not diluted his standards in background score if he is not setting new standards

Kaushik,
This is what I have referred in my posting in some thread relating to ARR. Good that you have written that scene.

Another recent repeat of ARR, for a change not from his repertoire, but from somebody else's:
The swara singing in 'kannodu kaanbadhellam'at the end: few straight ones from 'singaravelane deva'eventhough the latter is in a slightly different raga....infact the entire song seems to be inspired from the latter

Mahadevan N. :
just wanna make things clear:
1. u said that KM had highest sales ? pardon me, It was jeans not initial success only it was right throughout!
2. I agree u were right: but doesn't a films success Has something to do about the longevity of the songs?KM was film that run on avg. for 150 days while jeans just managed 100days and only in some theater for eg. sathyam of madras. And mind it it is a known fact that if it were not for music the flim would not have touched this landmark even

Guys I just want to ask you people to listen to suthum suru parveille ... from the film sirai chalai. And tell me if you find any similarities top any other songs or music, Pay careful attention to the tune and back ground music.
I shall post my findings at a later date.

With my limited knowledge I can tell IR has more originality and serious innovations. ARRs music is just 'set in a different style'. I am happy to compare MSV with IR than ARR with IR. ARR has to show some more seriousness.
As for accepting new people, yes I do accept new people. I do buy ARRs albums. But if you are a contemporary of a giant/genius. Tough luck. Many great careers have gone unnoticed this way (for eg. contemporaries of Alfred Einstein). Also, acceptance does not come overnight. It is established over a long period of time. Maybe if ARR shows some durability he will then be considered a great MD.
I was listening to 'Agni Natchathram' this weekend. It was really, really good. I haven't heard such good drumming in any other tamil film.IR simply has fun with his music.
Would love to hear ARR do something simple like this. Just take one instrument and just experiment with it the whole movie (like IRs drumming in Agni Natchathram). This will prove that he is not dependent on recording and other gimmicks (which most suspect)

let's ARR did do something like that then u would say something like ARR just repeated the same instrument, he lacks creativity

Hi,
Even Ir repeats, for example a song in Dharma
--- same as Mangkuyeela.
Raja panna right ARr panna it is called stale music, lack of ideas.Nala katha.

ARR does it more, that too bfore reaching even 100 films (has he reached 50 ,in the first place???)

Junior:
If a film, which is produced by a tycoon like Ashok Amritraj and has a director who has 3 block busters behind and is preceded by a media blitzkreig before its release, runs for less than 100 days, according to you, it is only due to ARR's music. But if an oblivious producer like
Sangili Murugan makes a film with a presently not too successful director like Fazil, according to you, IR's music rides piggy back on these people's films. Somehow, this argument defies logic. IR didn't have mega producers and mega directors all the way. He could make super hits out of unknown directors' and actors' films. People like Ramarajan, R SundarRajan etc, rode on his music to make silver jubilee films on shoe string budgets.
What happened to songs in films like "Vandicholai Chinraasu" , "Pavithra" etc which were produced by unknown directors?
First of all, there has to be more 'film music' from ARR than 'film songs'.Almost all ARR's songs are 'stand alone' songs which are catchy in isolation bearing no relationship to the story/situation.
IR's songs are composed with an extremely high level of understanding of the medium. Just think of songs in films like "Apoorva Sahodarargal" , "Nayakan", "Mudhal Mariyadhai","Mouna Raagam" "Sindhu Bhairavi" "Mahanadhi" etc.

mahadevan,
to add one more movie & director to ur list
Naattupura paattu by kasturi raja.
One song made the movie run for 250 days!!!
Who else other than our Mottai can make such thing possible.

don;t try to fool yourself. if jeans is running its just 'cause of ARR. I do understand that IR is great and no one can reach him. just because of that you need not prove by giving wrong examples.

yy,
In thirai vimarsanam (SUN TV), when they asked about the movie to all those who had seen it, the first comment from most of them was that they had shown a lot of places (" Niraya edangal suthi kaatirukkanga....nalla comedy padam, paattu kooda nalla irukku......." was the reply from most of them).I think u get which part of the movie has impressed them most.

The other day I was watching an English movie on Video. There was this intro music bit that was played when Credits started like "New Line Home Video Presents" and it was strikingly similar to a music bit in Chinna Chinna Asai (rOja)!

Songs in "Dil Se" are definitely much better than Jeans. [IMO, Jeans is absolutely mediocre.]
The tunes are catchy in Dil Se but the interludes are not imaginative. I wish Rahman could come out
of his stereotyped loops.

Junior:
Fazil was virtually unknown in Tamil when he made "Poovae poochuda vaa".
If you are talking about "Gentleman",
a.It had very good pre release ad campaign and it was from K.T.Kunjumon, who had a runaway success in Sooriyan just before that. The publicity was very huge.
b.It was ARR's second film after he had launched
himself through a very good banner in 'Roja'.So the expectation about ARR was always there,Shankar or no Shankar.During IR's early days, nobody even talked about the MD. But I will be only a fool if I do not acknowledge ARR's outstandig contribution to "Gentleman".
What I was talking about was films which were made by absolute starters like Sangili Murugan, Kasturi Raja, G.Rangaraj (I don't even know anybody remembers him as director of films like Udayageetham, Naan Paadum Padal etc)

Is any thing wrong with Tamil version of Dil Se?
It sounds very feeble! For the first time in ARRs history, a dubbed song sounds different frm the original..?
Comon ARR! I cant buy a costly system just becos u went hi-tech etc. I still want to enjoy your songs in All India Radio!

AR is trying new (irritating) styles of music
in Uyire. In 'Nenjinile' song, a different style of thaalam is played in the midst of a good
sequence thaalam, that too for just 2,3 seconds.
This totally irritates. It creates a feeling
that somebody forgot what to play and did played
a wrong thaalam. Did anybody noticed this?
