Come on., Nesan...I can't agree with you that Big directors are "Pachchondhi".. Why didn't BR use IR for his own Pramandam called Taj Mahal??? why??? Why IR is not composing music for Vaira Muthu??? Why VM bashing IR for not composing "Pattukku Mettu"?? Why IR's symphoney not yet realsed?? If Raja realy conducted the Symphoney why he didn't realse that??? How suddenly IR again become popular(make a note.. very recently GA Back to Raja) ??? Come on answer these questions..
I am draging few more Raja Bashing...
Why did he allow his daughter to sing??? First try to change her way of singing with proper practice then give her a chance to sing. Her voice modulation is horrible. Such a lovely song like "Thallatta varuvaaLa...." was totally spoilt because of her voice. Horrible voice modulation. for her. Mostly she tried to sing with High Pitch.
I am not abusing the forum. This is the discussion.I didn't use any dirty language. If I am abusing the forum Why did you bother my post?? Please ignore it..

Guys, you can bring a horse to the water.. can you make it drink! Well, looks like people like Prakash and Srikanth need to insult IR to vent their frustrations..may be when all things setlle down, hope they realize what a genius we had in our midst..if they don't is it our loss..no and definitely not IRs.

if bharathiraaja indeed had probs with IR and as prakash says gangai amaran was doing all the composing then why did bharatiraaja went back to IR in nadodi thendral?he could have gone to gangai amaran.for that matter all the directors could have gone back to GA.was it a secret that GA was doing all thecomposing ? if so how does our dear prakash knows about it?
engeyo idikuthe?
iam sure prakash has more stories and anecdotes to amuse us inorder to answer these above questions.one possible answer:
gangai amaran and illayaraja when they were kids were playing near a pond.GA fell inside and IR saved him.so GA told him that he is indebted to IR forever and whatever achievments he does in the future he would credit those to IR and he would remain IR's slave forever.how is the story?
iam planning to send a copy of this to poor manirathnam who is struggling to get a story
and who can make a decent movie out of this one.
BTW, we have come a long way away from the topic thanks to prakash.

Any way Raja is not Genius... That is sure. I didn't agree past 20 years that he is a genius. Still I am not going to agree that.
BTW Vijay
I liked your "Thounder" Humer... Thanks for the comments.

Dear Mr.Prakash,
I was back to browsing the net after a gap of a week's time and what I found in this thread is least amusing, but a lot irritating - which is something very much justified.
1. IR is not a genius - according to your power of judgement - it need not be a universal TRUTH -
a gentleman by the name (Semmangudi) Srinivasa Iyer, known for his virtuosity in Indian (Karnatic) classical music, showers praise on IR and calls him a GENIUS - and agrees wholeheartedly
that the title "ISAI GYANI" aptly fits IR's musical prowess/calibre.
Maybe, Semmangudi Sreenivasa Iyer was BIASED towards IR - or perhaps going by your version / thought orientation, Semmangudi S.Iyer was "muskafied" by IR & Co., with Gangai Amaran , singing praises on Semmangudi to please him, which in turn pleases Semmangudi so much that he decides to call IR a genius !!!
How nice to even think of such a thing !! perhaps, Semmangudi S.Iyer, with his vast experience, respected by every known classical vidhwan, including M.S.Subbalakshmi,was wrong and was suffering from acute senility, when he showered the above mentioned praise !!
2. Another gentleman by the name SUbbudu, who usually sends chills down the spines of musicians with his acid , but balanced criticism, interviewed IR for the erstwhile "The Illustrated
Weekly", some 15 years ago - somewhere in the course of the interview, there was an argument/difference of opinion, between IR and Subbudu , but somehow, the interview was over. The excerpts from this interview were published in the subsequent issue of the magazine, in which Subbudu went beserk in criticising IR left and right - towards the end, do you know how Mr.Subbudu concluded the article ? it went something like "this man has almost realised the very nature and source of SOUND - SABDHATHHIN NAADIYAI MUZHUVADHUM PURINDHU KONDA ORU VITHHAGAR ."
What a tribute from a man known for his sharp musical brain, to a man, who according to one Mr.Prakash Balakrishnan, is a "Copycat", " thimir pidittha anaal sarakuu illaadhaa cheat" and many other wonderful sobriquets ?!!!
3. Another young gentleman , who mesmerised the German Jazz festival at the ripe tender age of 14 (or 15 , I am not sure), openly speaks with reverence about IR and has also done an album with him - his name is U.Srinivas, who plays the mandolin - in fact, it is in this album that Semmangudi.S.Iyer has given a short speech on IR's musical Genius.
4. Gangai Amaran, composed all/ most of IR's music !! IS THERE NO LIMIT FOR BLASPHEMY ??!!
The very same KUMUDHAM which you have liberally quoted , in one of its issues displayed a cartoon showing a GAngai Amaran caricature stealing notes from IR's book - I think this was in the early eighties.
Between, 1994 - 1996, IR composed "Velli nilavey" - Nandavan Theru, " AVADHAARAM", and "Nandri sollavey unakku yen mannavaa vaarthai illaiyey" in Udan Pirappu, "Raasavey Unnai vida maataaen" in Aranmanai Kili and many more, which may not have been big hits, but were definitely carrying the IR stamp.
Maybe, IR was DOOO with Gangai Amaran in the mornings, and IR was KAAAI with GA in the nights during which he "flicked " the above tunes from GA !!!
After listening to "PON MALAI POZHUDHU' in Nizhalgal, Pandit.Hariprasad Chaurasia was so moved by the flute interludes that he worked with IR for the album "NOTHING BUT WIND" - it goes that after the recording was over, the great Pt.Chaurasia was in tears and speechless !!
Perhaps, GANGAI AMARAN supplied a few tons of GLYCERINE for Pt.Chaurasia or tear gassed
( borrowing a few tear gas shells from the LTTE)
the studio to bring tears to the eyes of the greart flutist. Come on , Mr.Prakash, give us all a break .
In the cassette cover of this album, Victor Rangel Rebeiro, an American musicologist gives his own tribute to IR - enna, perhaps, idhuvum, yedho under the table, "Koduthhu vaangal " case
thaanaa ? perhaps, IR even bribed this musicologist to write about him !!!
In that case Shri.Rabindranath Tagore must have "muskafied" the NOBEL COMMITTEE to give him the Nobel Prize ; the late Shri. Satyajit Ray must have "influenced" the OScar Committee to give him the OScar !! try telling this to a Bengali, you should consider yourself extremely lucky if you don't come back with a broken nose or limb.
YEdho, Tamizhan yendraal ILITHHA VAAZHARGAL yendru naamaey nammai amukkikkolgirom.
Sir.John Scott, the man known for his original scores in "Cleopatra" and many other English classics, on behalf of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra , London, sends two representatives to India, to make an on- the - spot study/analysis of IR's style of working . These two gentlemen, one Mr.Townend, the other's name I have forgotten, come down to India, and are just wonderstuck to see IR working spontaneously without even the help of a stopwatch - the recommendation is made and IR becomes the first S.Asian to compose a Symphony in full-fledged Western Classical music - Sir.John Scott says,"IR's work was of a rare kind, with many melodic elements, reminiscent of the culture of the land in which he has been brought up - the final work is beautiful " -
FRONTLINE, one of the leading fortnightlies in India, which never/rarely carries features on film stars , gave a 7/8 pages tribute to Ilayaraaja - read the September 10, 1993, issue of FRONTLINE - T.V.Gopalakrishnan il irundhu,
Pandit.Hari Prasad Chaurasia varai, everybody have spoken highly reverent words on IR calling him a genius beyond compare.
PErhaps, IR bribed the FRONTLINE as well !! very interesting indeed !! at this rate, Mr.Prakash, one of these days you are going to end up in court facing some serious Defamation suits/allegations.
Perhaps, Naushad ALi the doyen of Indian film music was also clandestinely "muskafied" by IR's clan and that is why he called IR " a genius
who has achieved 100 times more than anybody else in this field " way back in 1987, in this same magazine "FRONTLINE" -
PERhaps, there is some surruptitious link between FRONTLINE, IR, NAUSHAD, Pt.HARIPRASAD CHAURASIA, T.V.GOPALAKRISHNAN, etc., - some kind of a deal like the Hong Kong - UK deal .
MR.Prakash, why don't you start a Consultancy, with which you can render advices/suggestions to Semmangudi.S.Iyer, Mandolin .U.Sreenivas, Subbudu on how to put down IR and shower blasphemies on him - who knows , you might even get an interest free loan from Tamil Nadu's PURATCHI THALAIVI for starting such a Consultancy and there will always be Subramaniam Swamy to support you and GV to bail you out in case you land up in some kind of soup.
LAst, but not the least, MR.Praksh, you remind me of the character "CACOPHONIX" from Asterix & Obelix - I hope you know what happens to that character in every story of the famous Gauls.
Moreover, every contribution of yours makes your good self sounds more like some terribly concocted Western Spaghetti Cowboy movie, where the characters go around blindly shooting from the hip - you even sound like the Secretaries of State of the United States, viz., Ms.Robin Raphael, Mr.Warren Christopher and their likes - who in DON QUIXOTIC fashion stumbled and mumbled in their comments on South Asia.
Before making accusations, please think about substantiating your comments.
