I would rate SD Burman to be the music genius that Indian music world has produced. Even IR accepts that Burmanda (as he is affectionately called) is a supreme music director. The list continues with Madan Mohan,Shankar Jaikishen,Salil Chowdry,Vasant Desai,Naushad,OP Nayyar,Illayaraaja,RD Burman,Roshan,KVM,MSV.Anyone can get into a discussion I can prove my sayings.
I would say IR is nowhere compared to SD Burman.

First, I never said anything about you (being malicious or otherwise). I was just venting my feeling about 'baiting remarks' in general. We have mutual respect for each other (and our posts). So let's leave it at that. Seasoned DFers naa nambaLukku oru responsibility irukku illaiyaa? Plus 'seasoned' naa 'oorina' oorugaai maadhiri ilaiyaa, adhaan konjam kaaram adhigam. I will not claim that I have NEVER been offensive, but mostly with a cause to get a point across, even humor being one of them sometimes. Keyboard um internetum kodukkira oru sudhandhiram thaan. BTW never say never!!
Regarding tone of posts, sila samayam muLLai muLLaal thaan.....you know!
For example, I have noticed that there are posters who would ask about the notes for a C Major chord in one thread and later during the day will post something like "IR handles chord structures better than MSV". Excuse me! If your (poster's) learning curve is that steep, you should be in Vienna not 'potti thattufying'.

:-)
My learning curve doesn't have a great acclivity. FYI, I am a slow learner :-)
Let us just leave it as it is and proceed towards the topic of the thread.

occording to me IR is the best MD in India.
not even in films,he proved his talent
in non-film albums.
1985 he composed "Nothing but wind" And
"How to name it".
he who is the first asian composed sympony music in London.his experimentation in music is Excellent.till now his experiment does not spoil
any music rules.he is well known for BGM.
he is the only MD who brings real situation in music.Recent film Sethu is on of the example.

I have heard some people calling IR as the "OP Nayyar of the South". Since I have been away from the south and don't get to hear much of Malayalam and Tamil movie songs, I can't do any comparison.
I would, however, rate OP Nayyar as the best of all. One should not forget that he has carved out a niche for himself with his ever yuthful music. And what is important to note is that he has earned so much of fame sans Lata Mangeshkar. SD Burman used to have a variety of singers, including Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Lata, Asha, Geeta Dutt and so on. He used to make a male and a female singer to sing a particular in the hope that at one of the two versions would click and he used to have Rafi and Kishore singing his songs for a single movie. Last not the least, OP never bowed before anyone. OP does not have to compose music for any film any more. All the Hindi film songs for which he has composed music will retain their freshness for ever. And that makes all the difference.

theres no one like sd burman the most talented MD born in india. even at the age of 70+ he could easily churn out romantic sweet or classical numbers with ease
