Sathiya Keerthi & Amar (Nice to hear from you!) - It is indeed surprising that I haven't herd about the movie in question.
Re the LRE song, with that kind of lyrics, it is certain that I won't like the song. :-))
But I do enjoy selected songs of LRE, such as Kaathoduthaan, Palingunaal, Thenaattam karaiyiniley, etc.
Whicjh brings me to another question. Has LRE ever sang for IR?

NOV, LRE has never sung for IR or rather IR never used LRE in his music... some story which runs to Annakili days when LRE rejected IR's call to sing in Annakili or some of his early days movie....

NOV, I remember LRE singing a song with TMS in 'Nallathoru Kudumbam'. I think she sings the vampish part and TMS,the classical part. Anyway, this song wasn't worth remembering.

Sabesan - I know that story, and I personally heard LRE deriding IR, sort if in a maraimugam way.
One more reason to dislike LRE. :-))
Sriram - Wasn't worth remembering applies to many of her songs. Due apologies to her fans, if any. :-))))
Eden - Kavari Maan has songs by SPB. I don't remember LRE at all.
Palingunaal oru maaligai paruvaththaal mani mandabam, despite the situation, is not titillating.

Read this article on 'Preethi Uttam's ( Daughter of 'Dil to pagal hein' MD Uttam singh ) new album 'Sur'.
http://www.themusicmagazine.com/review39.html
I remember one preethi Uttam singh who sang 3 songs for IR - 'Kaathal vaanilee., ' from Raasayya, 'Allah un aaNaippadi., ' from Chandralekha and 'Sunday kho.,' from 'Aur ek Prem Kahani.
Can you clarify me - reNdu peerum oruththarthaanaa ?

Hi,
"PaLinginaaloru maaLighai" was sung by LREswari in the movie "Vallavan Oruvan" composed by old
music director "Vedha" (not Deva!). Vedha is a
music director who copied all the songs from
Old hindi music director's and Old English songs.
(Deva too....!)
"PaLinginaal oru maaLighai" was "Eeadichan" copy
of a Jim Reevs song.

`Friends' kettingala? There's one no. which must be to your liking: `kadal katrinile' (There are two infact, one by KJY and another by KSC. I like the KSC version better, ennamo theriyalai, KJY is not OK in `Friends', IMO)

Eden: It is quite good after repeated hearing(Oh! No! Sounds very much like a typical response in some other thread:)) ) .
The prelude with the typical kerala percusion was promising but was somewhat disappointed by the rest of the fare...seems to take off from the "saradendu paadi" format minus "eh ..mala..." by Raja in the first interlude- which is perhaps why I was disappointed:)))
And shiby only had KJY version. Perhaps, I will really take to it if I hear the chitra version- being a chitra fan myself:))

If you guys are interested in Kerala style percussion check out the CD 'Festival Drums of Kerala' by Maniyan Marar group. Recorded live in Tokyo, this CD is a release by the World Music Library.
You need to have a good stereo system to actually experience the live performance. With single box component systems you may not feel the effect that much.

Good to see you here. Last year it was July end
when I returned to India, and I think you were
leaving back to the US around the same time. So
I didn't contact you.
About Iniya Pon Nilave, I fully agree with your
evaluation..
The songs had the traces of both MSV and IR.
They were definitely not upto the standards of
"Mella Thirakkuthu Kathavu".

Raj!
I suggest you get hold of the KSC version and give a peaceful listening! Not in the hectic workplace, but during leisurely evening, preferably bedtime:-)))
The flute (in 1st interlude) literally moves something inside your throat! You know KSC is the best complement to flute (Kuzhalum, kuyilum)!
Also check-out sivamallippoo, another beauty by KSC! (I like KSC's performance in these songs more than even the accompaniments, a very rare feat indeed!)

Eden & Raj,
Please stand corrected the female version of Kadal Katril is by Sujatha not by KSC. I too like both Sujatha and KJY version of the song. KSC is at her best in sivamallippoo and 'ponnaram poovilum"

You're right Suresh! I was about to post the same as it was pointed out to me by my wife last night!
If was indeed funny... I was settled in the evening to enjoy this song with wife by the side and she said this is definitely not KSC...I didn't argue (it's not healthy to argue with wife, you know:-))) and went on to check the album wrapper..
Well, Sujatha has sung really well! (Keezhe vizhundhu, meesaiyilum mann..)

I have updated my music page. I have added a new section called "Iravin Madiyil" by IR. The songs listed may not be as exhaustive as the "experts" (rex, shibu, mpr ...) have on their sites, but is a collection with a certain theme. Please give it a shot and let me know if you have any problems with the links or music.
I would also like to thank MPR, the "IR web ring" for having links to my music page.
Sorry to nose into this thread !

eden & those of you interested in Kakkai Chiraginilae,
Let me try to give the highlights of "Kakkai Chiraginilae" from a normal listener's point of view , I am not a techie guy to give you more details.
Overall I would say it is one of the best album of IR in recent TFM. I can compare this one easily with any of IR's works in 80's.All the songs are very good.
1.Kolakilliye -- SPB
Very good instrumentation and nicely sung by SPB , very good melody.Used to be my pick of the album when I listened for the first time.
2.Gaythiri Ketkkum -- Unni & Bava
Many would have ignored this song just by seeing Bava's name, but really this is my pick of the album, not for the way of singing of Unni or Bava, purely for IR's beat and use of instruments, really magical number, As the lyrics of the song goes one may expect traditional Indian classical style of score, but our man has nicely ,very nicely westernised this song,Listen carefully the starting piece , really good and the second interlude is realy awesome, The violin thro' out the song , use of "Udukkai" I think mixing with the beats, How else can I express this one, one has to experience this on a nice speaker system.
3.Paadi Thirindha - one version by SPB and one by IR
Very good melody, I liked the guitar piece used in the second interlude.
4.Mano & Chithra duet
Very good number and also one of my favorite. Listen carefully our man has used vedic chantic thro' instrument for the interludes ,nicely blends with western piece.
5.Oor Oora Pogum - Sandhya
A very good "Nattu Padal" set nicely in carnatic style. If a nice singer like chitra is used it would have been another "Nanoru sindhu" of Sindhu Bairavi.
6.Ooranjaram.
Set to Desh ragam as mentioned in the lyrics of the song itself, very good number nicely sung by SPB proving why SPB is still great. The interludes are very good typical of IR.
Foot Note:
I am reviewing this album again for the benefit of IR music lovers.
You can find some of these songs in Rex site as well as in www.mail-bag.com under jukebox.
Regards
G.Suresh
