Madhav, I never refuted anybody's personal opinion about the songs and never expected others to like what I like, some of my closest friends think arr suck and I think they r entitled to their opinions.
As for making comments about other people's postings, I was defending my postings from the comments other people [:-)] made about my posting. So your advise should go out to :-) who has this to say about MY posting:
>>I donno why time and again u throw some bull like this always ?!??! How old are u ?? whatever be ur age, u've got the brains of a 5 yr old...<<
And talking about commenting on other people's postings, isn't that what u have just done? Commenting on other people's postings is what makes a dynamic forum as long as it's not >>offennsive or degrading << which is exactly what :-)'s and other IR fans' comments are.

Are you a lawyer? Why not...?
Guys, I will make my review about PP after a week.
Initially, I heard two songs...got disappointed, them came two more songs, got very much thrilled. PP is a mixture. No comments right now. Certainly, better than some craps making their rounds right now...(oops...moochchu vidakkudaadhu)

I asked you the question .."Are you a lawyer" based on this. man don't take this otherwise.

WhyNot, I don't mean to offend you, but if you defend your posting to posters such as :-) who don't have the guts to even put their real names and mail id's then y bother? It is arguments like these that drag the discussion away from the topic completely. If you were offended by my posting I humbly offer my apologies

Well said...ARR generally sets a trend in every album...
With Duet ARR showed how beautifully one can use Saxophone. Same is the case with many albums...Look at his Dil Se ( Uyire )...I feel that's one of the milestones in the Film Music...Not just because of it's songs but look at the sound design in the album. There are many such trendy things were introduced with each of his albums.
Unfortunately in PP, he lacked even a good sound design. He stepped back the way before in early rangeela days when he didn't have any resources ( recording equip to team ). And we could accept those days of ARR for various reasons because those albums were progressive from his previous albums. I believe it has got nothing to do with the Movie theme...think about Lagaan, 12ka4, KK, Alaipayuthe...Simple tune like Konjam Manukkule...Look at the sound design and the hums, very very innovative works...Why this...Do u think PP was less deserving movie than those earlier ones...Something wrong gurus..
Looks like ARR composed these songs much before Roja or probably when he was still an amateur composer. I can't believe why such a thing happened.
NOM, i respect ARR in many aspects - it's just my frustration.
Disappointment.

Ok Madhav, u r right about not getting side-tracked by silly personal bantering. I'll try my best to ignore people like :-) and stick to the topic.
Though I know u were talking about :-), I have my reasons for not putting down my real name and email id. I feel it helps me to get across my points savely without being judged for who I am. And since I don't have much info to offer no one can really have any use in knowing my email id.
Common Friend, I'm not a lawyer..far from it. But now ur making me paranoid abt sounding like a terror whom people r worried abt offending.

In my opinion, the best comes out of an MD only when demanded by the one who produces the movie. This was the case in most of the IR Movies. IR had done his best in all MR, BR, BC etc.. movies.
What I want to tell here is that, Balachandar had failed to get the best out of ARR. I'll just wait to see ho Manirathnam does his job in his next movie.

Folks
Just had a listen of PP.
At first listen..it seems no different from another ARR movie.Which is that, it has lots of new singers, good orchestration and lots of synthesizer music.
Throw in a couple of really slow songs(good when the mood is right..) and a few songs with weird lyrics..and u have a ARR soundtrack !
Not to say its bad..cos it does take time to catch up..but also not any really pathbreaking effort.
What drew me to ARR earlier was his attempt to innovate in every movie. Now that is becoming scarce..what we see is good/hummable music..but no different from his others.
Alaipayuthey , KK and Lagaan..were different..in the last few yrs..nothing else has been truly revolutionary..
Although lot of ppl tell me Zubeidaa(hindi) was awesome melody and what not..i personally found it a huuuuge bore with slooooooow songs.
Star, Nayak ,even Mudhalvan and the rest..were well...experiments with existing results..nothing new.
Here is hoping..PP will grow on me..and make me write a better review soon..and ManiRathnam's movie..bringin the best again..yet in ARR.

PP is definitely one of his best experiments.. just allow some time for the songs to grow on you. i always keep listening to them now. its definitely the pick of the movies releasing on deepavali. i think its definitely better than the music in nandhaa.. they are highly overrated on this website...

I like the Anbae Sugamaa and Nee Thaan En Thesiya song very much. The others are also good. There a lot of singers for the song, 'Athisaya Thirumanam'. I like that song too.

My initial opinion
'Nee thaan' is a wonderful song, again showcasing ARR's fastidious attention to minute detail. Balram is a welcome addition to the young brigade of Harish R, Karthik, Madhu Balakrishnan..
'Azhage Sugama' is another pleasant melody, though a bit predictable conforming as it does to a 'ARR slow song template'.. 'Love Check' features some very nifty percussion, might look good with some good dancing on screen (maybe even Sivamani performing onscreen!). The other songs..hmm. will need repeat listening
CF!
Coming after the very ordinary (IMO) 'Thenali' and 'Star', I'm surprised that PP didn't catch your fancy at the outset

Suresh:
I don't want to junp into decision and say good or bad.
I had a nasty experience with Gentleman and many ARR films there after. When I bought GM (ARR was just becoming popular), I hated the music. One thing is I didn't understand what Suresh peters was singing and I hated ARR using tablas and dholaks in "ottagathai" song. That "Enveettu" song was like a bhajan. But, when days went by, I got addicted to GM, and even now I enjoy every bit of it. Great music by ARR. The same thing might happen to PP. I just want to listen to it for a week or so and honestly see what has impressed me. But, I can say that, "Manmatha maasam" ans "alage sugama" are great. Ganesh in Violin is simple superb.
