The Biggest ever mistake IR commited in his life is not to use the genius SPB ji, IR can not give a huge hit without SPB, ok, expect sindhu bhairavai, most of early till mid 90's songs of IR were given to Jokers like Mano, who him self is BIG SPB fanatic, why does IR do this, Is he worried that SPB will take all the credit, look at Kaasi songs, all by the zombi hariharan, y not SPB?

you dont belong to this earth.. you were probably dropped off from Mars or something onto this earth and so you have no idea about what you are talking.. so I forgive you..

IR's biggest mistake is that instead of concentrating in his profession he began to talk stupid philosophy on spiritualism.
The same also with the Super Nut Rajni kanth.
Now they are trailing behind everybody.

X,
Out of all of the IR super duper hits, you have mentioned, 80% of them had SPB in it, hence these albums were such hit ;)

This isn't a mistake but imo for some reason IR does'nt use sweet western instruments like he used in 80's and early 90's and the BASS has gone where? also age could be the factor

Raghu, I agree with you.. I also feel that the success of SPB (and even KJY, chitra and SJ) was mainly because of Ilayaraja.. It was IR who gave them challenging songs to bring out their talent. Dont you think? For example, IR composed all sindhu bhairavi songs keeping KJY in mind. Simlarly udhaya geetham, idhaya koil etc etc.. were tailor made for SPB. No wonder why SPB thinks IR is the greatest!!

sindhu bhairavi songs went to jesudas because at that point of time spb was already into sankarabaranam, sagara sangamam etc. or else it would havebeen the great balu.
llayaraja owes a great lot to spb for his voice and spb owes a lot to illaryaraj as he was the sole performer during ill hey days

With all due respects to the person who posted this thread, Mano is not a joker, but one heck of a singer in his own right. Though his voice bears slight resemblence to that of SPB( not fault of his), his style is completely different from that of SPB. Unfortunate that Mano's potential is not being utlised by today's composers.
Anyway commming back to Illayarajah. One of India's greates composers, if he had ever made any mistakes , in my opinion it would be this:
He got too carried away with his roots and began to focous too much on south indian folk music towards the later part of his carrer.
With his imense knoweledge of western music, he should have tried to give his music an international flavour, something which AR Rehman did later.
There are many countless number of his songs, where he has incorpatrated western classical music elements into indain folk music!! but unfortuately, only Indians listened to them , and how many actually understood what he was trying to do?

I would like to add my views about IR. No one doubt about his talents and he is a great treasure for all of us. Who said IR melody is gone with 90's itself? No not all! To all music lovers, FYI just listen to the title background music of the film 'AZHAGI'(released in the year 2002) and all the background scores in that film. You'll love like anything. each one is a masterpiece and unbeatable. This one film is enough is prove that IR music is still alive to please us!

And, there is still much more to come!
Contrary to what some may wish, IIR is not finished and he is still out there to give us many more melodies!
