  Pattukotai kalyanasundaram was supposed to be gr8 if he had lived long years!!. As everybody is talking, Age has nothing to do with liking as long as it is good. Comparing VM and KD is not close to appropriate. VM has sparks of brilliance, but who does not. Vaali has become one to go down the drains even though he penned so many good songs. VM, Bharathiraja, and Raja combination, i guess most songs were gr8, this is what i call sparks of brilliance but KD, Pattukotai are Brilliance personified

  It is crazy to compare both. Kannadasan ruled his decades like no other. Let Vairamuthu beat out the contemporaries (Vaali et. al.) before proclaiming him to be Kavi Perarusu. His self proclaimed title is short on merit as well as decency.
  
  I have always found Vairamuthu use flowery language to mask his simple thoughts and make it sound like poetry, while Kannadasan conveyed his extraordinary thoughts in words everyone could relate.
  
  I won't even visit the trash Vairamuthu has passed of for poetry. Lokking into one of his so called great song, Anthi Maazhai Poozhikirathu, I should point out the presence of phrases like "Indiran Thotthatu Mundiriyei" which are nothing but fillers. He had the gumption to explain this by saying that Indran is most manly and mundiri (cashew) is supposed to be aphrodisiacal and hence the combination is a potent brew. Such lame excuse and so much for people proclaiming him to be a rationalist.
  
  I am sick of his use of Rosa (roja) and Rasa (raja) and his using meaningless sounds where his imagination fails to produce an appropriate word. While there were "la la la" in Kannadasan songs they occupied their own line space and it was not to replace the words that he couldn't conjure.
  
  I can relive the words of Kannadasan even without any music. I don't even remember the tune for most. How many of Vairamuthu's songs stand out independent of the music ?

  But I dont think VM alone is to be blamed for that. Even Vaali is written "Chiina Thayaval petra raasaave". So on this none of the current pack of writes is an exception.

  Kannadasan wrote the songs the words came and fell on his lap. Vairamuthu has the words (standard set of them) and he looks for songs that will fit the words.
