I personally prefer SPB over Srinivas, Harish, UKrishnan, UMenon, Hariharan, Shanker.....etc.

Raghuvaran,
I was talking only about the current generation singers. Despite the arrival of so many new singers SPB still remains the only singer who can satisfy most listeners.

Neel D;
I am very eager to watch the film, in which "mUngililE " song featured, superbly rendered by the greatest SPB!!!, it is T.Rajendar film, can you help me with the name of the film, thanks.
There was another song by SPB, it goes something like "avanukku thaan theriyum, oru arambhamum athan modivum, ada yarukkama theriyum athan vedikayum athan vizhaivum, nee kettathum odane kidhaikathu", It could be SPB + PS combination, Can you please tell me which film this song is from???

listening to kasi..... Thanks Suratha!!! The tunes are simple but catchy. Melodious and mindblowing. But, as many of u told, IR should have used SPB instead of HH. Anyway, while listening to music, voice maranthu pOi vidukiRathu.....

yeah ...i too am thrilled with SETHU's background music ....so apt for the situations...its damn easy for IR to compose music...we could sense the ease with which he composes extra ordinary music...IR is undoubtedly the world's No1 quality music director....so much output from one single brain ...for so many year ..right from 1974 i think ...its 2002 now ....still going on great quallity and success also.....No one can overtake him....yeah indeed he is always RAJA ....###
Whatever u said makes no sense to me. Raja is a good MD. Unghalukkum pudichirukkalam...adhukaagha...World's no.1 MD nu solradhu ellam konjham illa nerayave too much...Naanum IR fan dhan...But modestyna kilo enna velainu kekaadheengha...Then from 1974 - 2002 solreenghale...1974 la raja enna senjaaru??? I think he did annakili in 1978. So edhu solradhu munnadiyum konjam yosichu sollungha...My posting might look harsh to you. But, i am sorry to say this, do not mis quote the facts. That irritates me...I am sorry.

Heard Kasi
Ilayaraja fails to impress even in one song. Hariharan is a biggg let down , ellam pattayum ore madhiri padarar, SPB would have been a good choice.Hariharan accentle ore Mallu vadai . Lyrics are really good especially by mu.Mehta.
Raaja is trying to go back to late 80's style of composing but it fails to impress.
Raja can stop just with BGM.

If I remember right, 20 years back for a similar situation(blind man love story), IR composed masterpieces in Kaadhal Oviyam..If I were to hold KAASI to those standards it doesnt even pass muster..

Vijay,
I fully agree with you, Kaasi is nowhere near Kadhal Ooviyam IMO, SPB made the real difference then !
But As such, Kaasi songs are wonderful, Simple and good tunes, One more thing we need to consider is that, All songs in Kaasi are solo songs, Not enough room to experiement, Isn't it ?

Pleasant, simple hummable tunes with about the orchestration of Hindi film songs - that seems to be the style in this movie. Well, its better than what I expected - atleast the tunes are hummable, that isn't the case with most of recent IR's efforts.
Where is all the orchestral richness of his old songs? Yet, I'm sure he is capable of lot more even now - I almost thought he was at the end of his tether in 1997 when he came up with "Guru" (definitely one of his best ever). Time for another masterpiece, Raja!

kaasi songs seem to grow on you every time you listen, as one of the participant in this discussion forum rightly said. It is worth the money. IMHO...

I feel the songs are really good...they seem to grow on you.
1. the songs are very pleasant, simple, with IR's patent orchestrations in the interludes..
2. Lyrics aare good.
3. Hariharan has tried his BEST
This album will be a hit as some one had earlier pointed out. One of the best albums from IR in recent albums.
Vijay, and others
It is not fair to compare Kathal oviyam, or Guru with this album. We fans are too jealous to ask for all GURU type albums from IR everytime..

irfan,
I agree with you songs are pleasant and simple, will become hit, But I can't say Hariharan is good - 'En kathaiyaik kaettaal ungaL siRakukaL thannaal moodik koLLum'nnu Mu. Metha urukippoy ezuthiyirukkaar, Athai sirichchukittee paadaRamaathiri irukku intha manushan, Same kind of expressions everywhere and no variety at all, Thats why I said I long for SPB very much in such an album which deserves and requires a majestic voice like his,
I feel we SHOULD compare kaathal ooviyam with this album 'coz the story lines are almost same - village backdroup, blind hero, good in singing ... what else ? May be the only difference is that the Hero of Kaathal ooviyam was good in carnatic music (somehow :-), and this Kaasi is a paamarap paatakan, So plain tunes, good to attract village people and simple orchestrisation is the need - Listen to any naattuppuRap paatalkaL, You will know this and IR has exactly done the same - May not be his best ever when compared to Guru or Kaathal Ooviyam, But Opt for the movie, That is what is important when it comes to composing FOR a story !

one interesting about these songs are ...even if a person listens to them knowing no details about the film he would be able to say that these are being sung a blind man....
hmm..andha vidhathula mottai has succeeded....
he could have surely done better....but he has done this very very casually......chumma asalta music poturukaru raasa....

yes, kaasi songs are simple but seem to be created in 'layers'...every subsequent listening deepens one layer further into the soul of the song...IR may not have used any orchestration, but somehow, as you listen to the songs, you know in the deepest recess of your heart that you are hearing the sound from a purest source...(even one song in kaasi has a line that says,'ennidam unmai ulladhu, vaerenna vendum?'...All IMHO)
(ESPECIALLY LOVED THE 'AATHORATHILE','MAANUTHOLU ONNU','EN MANA VAANIL'...)

pras...same goes to the admin of TFMPage...see the front page in the site, about KAASI film...the admin has highlighted some careless observer's view on the film's music right on the front page...do they think for a second how much this can impact cassette sales and general public opinion about the music?...i wish the admin carefully weighs a comment before highlighting it right on the front page.....only this will ensure that TFMPage is "not partial"...it will make sense to remove that silly observation made by some careless visitor to the site and replace it with any regular DFer...i don't mind harsh criticisms if they are truely analytical or make atleast some sense...but how can you stand some rubbish right at the front page...that does not mean well to the site either...does it...ALL IMHO....
