I feel proud about ARR making big. I applaud it.
But, this cant be taken as the real scale of talent. Westerners recognising indian music only 'now' doesnt me Indian music has come of age now.
If Lloyd wasnt asociated with Bombay dreams and he never met ARR, would it mean ARR was'nt good. And how much does Lloyd knows about Indian music, or did he cared to know about all these days?.
( I know you will come back about, RPO and hungarian orchestra, But you see it was all about WCM ).
I beleived IR, ARR and many are world class, much before any white mouth uttered it. And world class is nothing big, if britney & christina are world class, we have hundreds here.

"second to none"
This statement is as absurd or as true as your posting previous to that.

Guys
The general menatality is always like that.
Nor they can appreciate local talents.
From the begining ARR is a class apart and so is IR. But the fact is guys always appreicate only if it approved by White Man.
Anything said by White Man is correct and locals are wrong.
shame on our guys for not having any individuality.
But the true ambassadors of Indian music to West starts with Ravi Shanka,L Shankar and Shakti and other followed.
And now we have most of western bands use Tabla and indian scales

Actauly we should thank CNN.
The So called MTV ( music! television) features only programs like Jackass. Iam not saying thier programs are like that, thats the actual name of a program here in US.
Inspite of running a Indian channel, I dont think they ever featured any indian artists (except for some innovative ADs indians created like 'ghar aja na' which pokes fun at indian music itself).
It should be call lazy_spoilt_teen_nuts channel.

guys,
Webber , with all his stature is not an authority in Indian and in particular Indian film music-he has listened to a few songs(isnt it funny the song which brought ARR to his attention was a co-pied-s..o so...rry-a divinely inspired song?does that make the original composer a better one?) and concludes that ARR is a great composer-tellme-we who have been listening to film music throughout our life or webber who has heard a handful of songs? If you think webber is a better authority, than people like semmangudi, subbudu, RD Burman then you need serious thinking to do.
Riz Khan sollittaaram-is he an authority on Idian music.
Dont you guys realize the fact that for these chaps Indian is synonymous and ends with hindi film music. These chaps are blessed with tunnel vision. They will never see anything outside hindi-oops-indian film music. And also realize fact that all the present plaudits for ARR
are solely due to one fact-that he was accepted by north indians who were becoming increasingly fed up with the likes of AM , NS.
argue quoting your view points-but dont quote webber and riz khan.
by the way, trend, good samalippu-but I dont understand what you are trying to say.I can accept that my previous posting was either absurd or true-i still cant make head or tail of your second to none statementwhich clearly implies ARR is better than likes of Beethoven and Mozart.even webber will blush at that.

Well there's always room at the top for more...so what Trend has said is in a way right...come on just because Beethoven or Mozart had time to compose huge pieces of work doesn't mean TFMians (ARR or IR) can't do it or doesn't mean they have created less inferior works...well this is becoming an oft repeated subject and shouldn't be argued in this thread.. :-)

Well, I saw the partilal interview on CNN on sunday. They talked about indi-pop, indian classical ( ok that is confined only to hindustani classical ( ravi sankar, jakir hussain, and amjad ali khan). ARR interview was very short, but was longer than other artists.
When riz khan asked about what is the difference between music taste in south and north, ARR answered that south likes classical and north likes anything which is simple ( with a chuckle).
Regards

What all indian music comprises of only N. Indian Classical/ qawalis/ gazals/indi pop/HFM?.
Looks like music border of india ends right after maharashtra.
