A.R.Rahman's Bombay Dreams is continuing its dream run in London's west end by grossing over £10 million. So the musical with a budget of £4.5million has so far grossed more than double its expenditure.
And now its been confirmed that Bombay Dreams is being taken to USA(Broadway),Canada(Toronto) etc.
Lets celebrate this great success story by a humble man from Chennai, the Mozart of Chennai, A.R.Rahman.
And one man for whom no words of praise are enough is Andrew Lloyd Webber, who introduced this music genius from Chennai to the whole world.
Lets discuss the universal conquest of Bombay Dreams in this thread.

Distractions like sets, women etc etc. They are there to spice up the show. If you notice, you would find that the music is getting more acclaim than the things which you mentioned. That just shows that people find something more attractive than these "distractions". They, no doubt, add to the commercial value. But at the same time, Webber is not doing it to compromise on the music which he has got.

Who is talking about Rahman' music? Go, find a serious article on the web about anything outsdtanding of the music. Overall, it is a Webber production of the colorful Bombaywood. Chennai has no wood yet, until the IR Symphony comes out and that will take time for people to absorb the abundance of innovations, sounds, ideas in an hours' worth of supernova outburst of IR. ThenisaiPuyal and SuperNovaOli is the difference between ABCDEFG HIJKLMNOP LMNOPQRST UVWXYZ and "IR". Athu purinjiko Ayya Sami.
Gas vudira sathamumu oliyum, SuperNova vediyira Oli vithiyasam theriyame ingey nozhayadhey, V saami.
I took 15 months for BD to get back investment of 8 million pounds. The show is stopped in the 24th month! So, let us say it earned 15 mill pounds! That money is now gone to Broadway for Indian tourists, residents to do something for it. Let us stop kidding, about BD' musical merits. It is a great show, i believe, but music is not causing waves yet.
And, on the other extreme, we have IR' genius that may also not cause waves, because it is too difficult to absorb IR' music by a global audience that cannot accept non-universally (that is, all of natuarl sounds in the high frequency ranges). That is the risk of IR' efforts, ARR' does not present risk at all, because a global Indian and Middle Eastern travellers is a captive audience. IR' audience is probably limited, for many many other marketing reasons, also.

Kaalam,
You seem to be a highly knowledgeable person. You are right in a way. Nobody is talking about Rahman's music in Bombay Dreams. Many people who are as knowledgeable as you actually don't even know that it is by Rahman. I am beginning to wonder why highly popular magazines like the "Times Of India" are not coming up with serious articles. Shouldn't they talking the creative and innovative genius of Ilayaraja in his TiS as you suggested? May be for the time being they settled with something they've listened to and could comments about?
But then as you said, we have Ilayaraja, a great musician. These people are stupid man. They don't realise this. They should all tune up to what the great man has to offer and accept it and enjoy it. Why should IR give tunes that everybody enjoys? I am cent percent with you. You've got a highly valid point.
I feel the SSSA should go one step further and also work for the cause of the media. When will the so the called literates from Times Of India learn what msuic is? You should collect funds, arrange some tutors and actually teach them what music is. This can be later expanded and done on a larger scale. More people will then be musically literate and will be prepeared to take in a "SuperNova" explosion. I wish you all the best in this venture.
Please do not waste the precious time of SSSA by arguing about Webber. He is not of your class. He has invested all the money himself.
Good Luck.
YIA!!

***Indians, wake up. Look at IR, spending his own money with the help of fans to bring forth a fusion kind of Symphony, a work of such complexity, that I really hope IR will not hesitate to release it atleast even if there is no audience today to appreciate creative genius. You think any fans can do that for Rahman or even Jackson?!!! ***
1. IR is not spending a great deal of his personal wealth.
2. he depends on his fans and well wishers cos no media company is interested in funding the project.
3. if this is really a social service then the product should be sold in indian rs in india not in US$.
4. Ask him to donate a cd to all temples in tamil nadu.
5. This Cd should be affordable to all people who chant Thiruvasakam, pricing it in US$ makes it out of reach.
IR camp better learn the proper ways to do business, otherwise this effort is going to sink in this file sharing era.
What do you call this business or service?
You may not like Chaiya chaiya i don't care but take time to explain all the countless mediocre IR numbers in last 5 years to newtfmpage members.
atleast let us know how good they were :)
