Bug,
One recent why Guru was not a big hit could be the fact that it was simply not made for the masses. A lot of WC and carnatic based songs. even for the Mallu such heavy WC based compositions are new. It also didnt help that the film was a dud at the box office. it was close to ana art film. Did'nt u like mogamull songs? were they a hit in TN? No. Same reason here too.
But this does not mean the albums were technically inferior to other ones. Its just that IR didnt compose songs in the popular genre and rather experimented a lot. Thats why it appealed to most people here in TFMDF who have atleast a limited knowledge of music and didnt appeal to the majority back home who prefer 'catchy' music. Guru is easily the best from IR in the last 5 years. We have digressed a lot from the original point that I made which was that IR still rules in Mallu in spite of his medicore commercial success there. His products there are still musically rich as compared to TFM on an average and I dont think anybody here would disagree with me.

Eden,
If this aaramthinai piece of news is true, then its really a shame that Karthikraja and Bhava are illiterates as far as Tamil is concerned.

"Payanangal mudivadhillai" was produced by Kovai Thambi - another successful producer of the early and mid 80s, whose films were known for excellent songs.

From Rediff:
When these guys team up, it's news. We refer to the troika of director Bharatiraja, music maestro Ilayaraja and ace lyricist Vairamuthu.
Producer P Raja, the man behind Kizhakku Simayile, is the ambitious gent hoping to bring the three aces together in one hand, and talks are at an advanced stage.
Wasn't it "Kizhakku Simayile" produced by Thaanu? How true the above story is?

Hey hey stop it !! will you guys, fighting like a small kids !! Grow up :) or this site will soon be marching on the road to oblivion just like Mr.IR ,i know that hurts, whatever he does is going to fail man. ARR has tamil music lovers and others by their b**s ,they will listen to SA Rajkumars ever repeating of a same tune and listen and tap to Devas straight copys but for unknown reason cannot now stand to IRS tune now whos is to blame figure it out, this is same mad crowds made a demigod out of him, this is very typical of tamilian mentality either raise him to the celestial pedestal or thrown cow dung on that person and bury him once far all,IR is a fallen angel not even God can revive his music, his fate is doomed as far as capturing tamil industry again, even if means losing his ego and joining Vairamuthu ... Life does teach some wonderful lessons. And i know he is not going to read this one but the basics are not worked on man PR PR,how can u survive in this Iron age/and tech world without proper advtn and management.
And the hard fact is IR lost it way back in 90s.
It is surprising as how he manages to get chance to compose music for tamil films,a producer must be really willing to lose money if he is booking on IR now thats the impression with most of the producers to them and others back in TN,IR music sucks repeating the same fasion, what happened to his brilliant fusion works like Rajaparvai,I am sure even now people will listen provided you given good quality sound, all you need to invest in some nice sound blaster technologies and computer based mixing. I have a eight trak virtual stuido at my house and I compose my own music as a hobby ofcourse. I am just saying that to highlight the advntage of using technology. ARR music sound good because he is talented and also knows to use techn. and has sound capturing studio now not only that ARR is very good in coming out with good catchy tunes and rhtym.
Whereas the Isai raja is only verum to gali gooja IR cannot come with any fast paced numbers
I know u guys going to say this and that but only casette sales does the talk now not the real content so sorry fellas IR music continues to suck.. But as a good fan and well wisher and I only pray that trio combination is going to come out good (if the news is true).
Even Mani ratnam is introducing another new MD by the name Dina and he never went to IR because, nothing new can ever come out of that old birdy!!
So IR do yourself a favour retire !! retire man

Mr Thanikattu Raja
My objective is not hurt peoples feelings.
Dont take things personally brother.
I am just anguishing my feelings of how once invincible IRs plight is so bad now,he has managed to give always something new,but the point is not good enough. One should able to take critisim and priase on the same plane.
I still listen to his old songs not the new ones though. My final point is that though hardcore fan like us are waiting for the golden days to be back i am just saying that looks like a kanal neer.. a mirage thats all
peace

Unmai Virumbi,
Again... IR has nothing to prove. If you like what he does these days, listen to it. Otherwise look elsewhere. There is only so much anybody can do.
Given the cinema industry and its spectrum of politics, IR lost only because he wasn't shrewd and manipulative.
HE has survived only because of his talents. Even today, songs like "Malayil Veadhanai" keeps me happy. A few more of those original songs every year is enough to keep me content and stick to IR.
