Trend,
No problem.
seedan.. if you are around. I think that 4000 or 5000 watt system is not something you want for your stage performance. That is one of those exaggerated ratings that manufacturers put on mini-component system to mislead the gullible. I only have a 50W system and quite happy with watching even action movies, not to mention music. As for reverberation, if you can use real instruments instead of sequencers you will get that 'reverberation'. I am sure you knew that.

i did not know real instruments gave reverberation!....also i dont know why reverberation is classicfied as room, hall, plate instead of violin, veena, guitar!

First few lines of the pallavi incherungu sounds similiar to the song 'kattukulle singakuttiyam' from the move anbuku naan adimai(?) - The first few lines of saranam of that song -
odi vanda sigakutti man vesam pottukuttu
vanna maan jodithan singam konnudithan ,
incherungu sounds dangerously close to that.
Thanks

kiru, i was just joking for the heck of it.
on a serious note:
Natural instruments have very little "natural" Reverb in them, that only few instruments have natural reverbs.
Reverb is something to do with sound bouncing in a room or hall etc,
The reason for recording music in old churchs or old castles is to get a natural reverb,
but mordern effect processors do a grea job these days, they are very handy , we need not go after old buildings etc.,
with it you can get many types of reverbs which can be applied to any sound source, it need not be always a sequeced music, these days digital reverbs are used on vocals, sax, strings, any natural instruments. efx processors range from $99 - $3000. I would say there are no songs without reverb for the past 10+ years

Yup...reverberation is simply too many echos heard in succession with little delay, so that it all sounds as one long sound. "Hall" reverberation as name says, simulates echos heard from a hall. "Plate" reverberation is a means to achieve some reverb by exciting metal plate (in synthesizers it is done electronically) and picking up the signal at the other end. But it does some modulation to the tone itself. If you play the piano in the synth and turn on plate reverb, it sounds more like a metal "clang"....

Swamiji thanks for reducing the tension here with your hand cymbals :-) Your academic description of reverb leads to me suspect you might have read Kinsler&Frey once upon a time (or just you get your basics right) . I am bored of talking about sampled/sequencer sounds vs actual instrument sounds..thAngal thayavu koornthu 'harmonics' paRRiyum ingE ellorin nanmaikkAga eduthuch chollavum.

This 4000, 5000 W music systems (boomboxes) are found only in India : the fake PMPO (Reak Music Power Output) ratings used my manufacturers to fool the public. In reality these systems have only around 5-10W RMS output. In US you will not find boomboxes labelled with these PMPO ratings.

illa pg... relationship is wrong
4000-5000W PMPO equates to around 200-250W RMS !!

Ages ago when I bought a Sony book-shelf system at Jackson Heights NY, the store manager used a conversion table to inform me that the system was 1000W (PMPO) while the specification said 80W output(RMS) per channel. He also said that he keeps that converson table handy since many Indian customers were asking for the PMPO equivalent of the RMS output.

I am not sure that the speakers in these kind of systems can output sound equivalent to 80W. It might be just the current capability (i doubt this too). Anyways, output is only one aspect of the system, THD, Freq response curves are more important. Real test with music is the best test.
As for me, separates are the way to go (receiver/cd-player/speakers). Personally, I dont even have a receiver. I am happy a stereo int. amp.
Re: POP recordings (like that of ARR, YSR, Shankar Mahadevan etc) - these sound good even in mini-component systems. For acoustic performances like Guru (by IR) or recordings of Hariprasad Chaurasia or Zakir Hussain a good separate system will give the feeling of actually listening to the real instruments - 'live experience'. In ordinary systems these acoustic recordings sound very bland.

Mr Genius :
That is why I said that these ratings are fake.
Anyway, what does this rating (PMPO/RMS) mean ? Is this per channel rating or a total output of all amps ? Can the speakers handle it ? In fact if you open up the cabinet, you will see that the teensy-weensy speaker will be marker WAY LESS than the PMPO rating on the boombox. The manufacturers do these tactics only in South East Asia.
You cannot put a 50W RMS output amp into a boombox. It generates a lot of heat. You need proper ventilation, heatsink to dissipate the heat.

The pallavi of the 'athini chithini' song from 'thenali' sounds like the old song 'chinna chinna kannanukku enna vendum, singaara maana nalla paattu vendum'.
All I remember about this song is that it was sung by a female. Can anyone else shed more light on this tune?

Kududam says MR's assistant's movie is delayed because of ARR.
http://www.kumudam.com/lightsonline/mainpage.html
Click on 'kisu kisu' section.
Kumudam investigation team says the film was attacked by Puyal (Isai Puyal). Yes, ARR did not finish composing songs and BGM. Because of this problem, it seems MR joined hands with IR.

Manirathnam when he produces film and others direct the MD is DEVA..Fims like AASAI,NERUKKUNERetc..etc..
Now for the film DUM DUM DUM....(MR is just producer)...Music by KARTHICKRAJA..
For MR'S directorial venture music is either by ARR or TV serial CHITTI fame Dheena...
MR is certainly not going back to IR for his directorial ventures...SURE....ahmed.

MR still knows only IR can give the best Musical contribution for his films. He just introduced a fresh MD ARR. I am sure he will again go to IR just like as he joined hands with PC sriram.
Who can forget those lovely songs & BGMS in
Mouna Raagam, Idayatthai tirudathey, Nayagan, Pagal Nilavu, Thalapathy, Anjali & Agni Nakshatthiram.
I dont think MR & IR in bad talking terms. MR still respects IR and have talked high of IRs musical calibre in one of the english magazines.
Infact there was a rumour that both IR & ARR will join hands for an Hindi film to be directed by MR
under the music banner Raaja Aur Rahman....Is it true?

Krish....From where you get such news...Raaja Aur Rehman.....No one in NORTH is keen on such combinations...When IR is not ready for Raaja and Raaja combination with his sons...(ABC films wanted IR and his son for ULLASAM...which was rejected by IR)....Only in tamil film PANDIYAN, IR shared credit with his elder son.Otherwise IR is very fussy on such combinations...Probably like latest style different MDS can independently compose different songs for a single film...ahmed

Ahmed,
It is because IR knows his sons can deliver on their own (that too originally)
unlike those "inspired" and "Ctr-C, Ctrl-V" MDs.
North does not believe in combinations?
Laxmikath-Pyarilal
Jatin-Lalit
Nadeem-Shravan
Shankar Mahadeven- xxx - yyy (Mission Kashmir)
The list is endless...
BTW I see combos, and mostly combo's in North.
Anyway I wish IR to work alone and/orwith his sons in North (if the news was true), not
with the copy cats.

Ahmed,
why dont you open a recent thread called''md-md combinations'' and see what all md's raaja has scored music with?
dont u think,as a dad he would have liked KR to score on his own, leading to his establishment as an independent md?
