Following is a review of Anthapuram by Kiran...
A master piece. Surely, one of the best films of 90's. It is an out & out directors movie. Krishna Vamsy did a wonderful job. Soundarya & Prakash Raj steal the show. Soundarya is probably the best thing happened to Telugu films in the recent times. The way she potrayed the role of an NRI cought in factions is awesome. Praksah Raj lived in his role.Climax of the movie is too good. Prakash Raj & Soundarya might bag all the awards this year. Jagapathi Babu , sai kumar & sarada have done a convincing job. Ilayaraja came up with some haunting tunes. What to say about his background score .. it is his domain. As the ad of the film says.."the king is back". There are a couple of gruesome scenes here & there ... probably the only negative point of the film.

hi all,
Happened to listen 'Chinnaththurai' songs.
'Kolusu konjchum paatham' by Unnikrishnan & devi is the best song of the album IMO., it reminds me 'Oru chinna manikkuyilu., ' from 'kattapanchaayaththu'., Nice melody & very good lyrics ( who is the lyricst ?? )Devi is very good in this typs of songs - Not to mention Unni krishnan.
Another good song in the album is sung by SPB & KSC., I exactly do not remember the starting lyrics., but it is something similar to this 'Ullapadi sollapp pooona., '., Very good melody & thank God., IR called SPB For this song., I just can't imagine Hariharan singing this song., However this reminds me some Old IR song., I may be wrong but this is what i felt when i heard this song., a 'Don't miss it' type of song.
Other songs had no impression on me., However another SPB Number 'Marakathak kutti., marakaththak kutti., ' Is Quite good., Have to listen to this a few more times !

Should we bother so much about Kamal in this thread where we should be discussing about IR. Let that man choose whomsoever he likes - let's get on with the business discussing about IR's musical genius!

With several firsts, why is Kamal so conscious of having L Sub to do music for Harey Raam? This guy is getting more and more selfish and not concerned about promoting IR through his films. It is very bad on Kamal's part. He could have L Sub play the violin for IR.

Psst! Another missed opportunity for IR. I am not going to take the usual IR fan route of bashing Kamal up. He did what he wanted to do and he was well within his rights to choose anybody he wanted as the composer for his movie.
With Shahrukh et al; this movie (I am not going into its merits or demerits, I am really not concerned about whether it would turn out to be good or bad) *definitely* would have been an ideal vehicle for a (rather late) foray for IR into Hindi music. A high profile movie like this is what I always wanted for IR as a launch vehicle. Guess I have to learn with disappointments.
I have a lurking fear that IR would slowly fade away ... that in some years from now, he would be just another composer that South India produced. Leave alone world fame, he would not even have achieved all India fame. I am not kidding, but as I write this, en Kannellam kalangugirathu.
Now Kamal and ManiRatnam and others ... don't you guys feel what I feel. Now that you guys have some sort of national recognition, is'nt it only fair that you introduce a greater talent to India. It is not that you can't do it, but you guys just won't. Ego clashes (maybe IR is at fault here, maybe not) ..... are taking away more and more opportunities from IR and I'm not sure he realizes it. I always thought some people in Cinema would treat IR with the indulgence his genius deserves and just go with his idiosyncracies, but I guess I am wrong. (I dare not ask IR to give up his ego ... it is part of the package).
I know I am rambling, I know Kamal or ManiRatnam would'nt be visiting this site, I know this is pulambal, but I read this news and was so hurt that I needed to vent whatever I felt.

Oops! Replace "Guess I have to learn with disappointments" with "Guess I have to learn to live with disappointments". And this is true ... when IR releases an album it is always *my* album, when IR's albums do well, it is *my* success and so on .... Haven't you felt that way?

Clarify,
I totally agree with the fact (mind you it is not my opinion anymore) that IR is truly one of the greatest musical minds there is. And by the same token SPB is one of the(IMO the) greatest playback singer there is. I believe to some extent IR's downfall started when IR decided to not utilize SPB in the recent past. Combine this with the absence of VM's lyrics. No he is not a Kannadasan but he is definitely among the better song writers of contemporary times. We will never know whose ego is messing it up, but I think the absence of these kind of combinations are creating the disappointments which you are referring to.

rAjAG,
i sincerely hope this posting doesnot bring in any vitriolic answers, but i would rather see IR fade away than
support/being-supported-by totally talentless "celebrities" like VM. one of the greatest pluspoints
of recent IR albums are songs by people by aRivumathi, pazhanibhAradhi, RVudhayakumAr etc. i would like
to see GA write more songs for IR (he did for vIrath thAlAttu, but the failure of the album talks clearly
about the present tastes and it makes me cry). in terms of quality lyrics VM fares far far below these people.
oc, imo.
