  I would discount the suicide attemp story..TMS is a man of high integrity and it does not seem to me that he would do this...I have seen him very bitter in a live performance in Detroit years ago about the state of affairs in TFM, but I am not sure whether he understands that this is normal thing when you get old. Many of us may remember the bitterness expressed by grandfathers, except some wise ones..who choose to keep quiet. I am sure that I will be bittern and fret about a few things...it happens to many...especially to those ones revered so highly once, but tuned back by the later generations..
  
  I had listened to my Dad's favorite TMS song.. Aaru Maname Aaru anntha Aandavankattali aaru.. yesterday..what a soulful rendition...by the way this song has a good baroque style violin (or chello?) by MSV..and some bits of piano...can you imagine this by MSV...And the lyrics by Kannadasan.. TMS+MSV+Kannadasan is quite unparallelled...seemingly for ever...

  Just a thought:
  
  Remember...the song in Gowravam?.."Neeyum naanuma..kanna neeyum nanuma..," I may never see a song in the rest of my life so well rendered with the apt and upbeat, emotional, commanding voice by TMS and the grand orchestration by MSV...and in a movie and story line that seems to had been made for this..or the other way?
  
  These are sort of classics for current generation of music directors and lyricists to do some research and serious listening before the enter TFM..Who can blame...the thing these days is if know a few notes then you are signed into a movie..Aaahhhhh...I am just a bit cynical here...excuse me..

  My all-time fav male singers are: in Hindi Rafi and in Tamil TMS. Both had the diction, the voice and the emotion to give life to the most stupid of lyrics. This duo is unparelled in Indian film music history.
  
  The 'Aru Maname Aru' song of 'Andavan kattalai' is one of the most soulfully rendered songs by TMS. The BGM changes from stanza to stanza, but still doesn't vary from the tenor of the song. That's the greatness of VR duo, the best MDs in TFM, by miles.
