I have been scouting around on the net that somebody who has seen Lajja would've had something to say about the bgm by IR, believe me, not a single soul of all the viewers who gave their comments made a mention of the bgm, except one in Indolink. Here is the second one i found now and this guy appears to be a non-Indian who happens to have comments only about the bgm, while the general janata had daal about the actressess only... so, apppreciation for world class music is not a prime activity among viewers of hindi films in general in India and of Indians in the US, other than people here in TFM!!!!!!! You know you need a ear for good things...

Background Score 2001-09-09
by: Deryck Cooke rating: unrated
I don't know Hindi but I seen the movie for my Indian Friend.
My friend translated some dialouges so I realised the movie with the so grand background score.
Though India should feel "lajja" on things like movie shows, She should feel very proud of the Composer composed Background Score.
Indeed it is not Film Music , It is greater Music.
I am very Impressed with the way the composer handled every inch of the movie.
I can give you some examples so that you enjoy the movie(music):
Scene 1: At the airport where Vaithaki receives the call from the Doctor, Sense of Happiness followed by sadness.
Scene 2: When Ram Dulari says to Vaithaki "Dhek, ey bachi tho abihe aahdhi Maa Bangaiye".( I don't remember the dialouge well but I enjoyed (apprehended) the Background Score well.)
I have given you only some simple examples, there are some many to be enjoyed with the flawless composition.
Movie has great number of unreal characters as well as real representation of some Indians.

Touching the SOUL 2001-09-07
by: Chiranthana Kar rating: 2
The Movie is Excellent but the severity of emotions makes me to sit with great difficulty.
I feel the Background score is so soulful that it penetrates the Pure-self so easily and makes US feel the exact emotions & pain of the characters in exact amount. Hollywood should feel “Lajja” on seeing this movie because this movie shows the real background score needed for film (which cannot reproduce identical characters in real life).
Perhaps this movie makes to market a bit late, so it might not commercialize to great extent.
A movie to be seen by all the Indians, no, a movie to be seen by all Real Human Beings.

emotions 2001-09-06
by: AkbarBasha.S rating: unrated
I never experienced such a great fine Background Score so far in my life.
The Composer has brought all the possible expressions & emotions so simply(Fine) and very tangibly so that everyone moves to music so greatly.
Kaun Dagar Song is so Greatly Matches the movies in all aspects(Visual, Emotinal,etc.).
The tempo is draging at times because of the sensitive subject.
If this movie makes to a flop, We should be feel "LAJJA".
Tanking you,
Akbar

I watched Lajja yesterday - the title score was awesome! it shows a red saree flying and then getting trampled by a dozen feet, gets torn by a fence and then burnt by fire - this is followed by the titles against
the backdrop of the skyline of New York! - the use of chorus for the saree scenes followed by the beautifulseamless merging of the chorus into a poignant, richly layered WCM piece for the titles, with subtle
manoeuvres that only Raja is capable of - amazing, awesome score!! There are a number of scenes where you can see a genius in full flow/form - when Madhuri is ditched by her boyfriend, changes in her expression are matched frame by frame by IR's score, the flow is just brilliant, the scene where Manisha goes to meet Jackie Shroff on a riverbank, followed by a carnage and then a shocked Jackie Shroff looking at the water, the scene where Ajay Devgan bids adieu to Manisha against the backdrop of a waterfall, the final scene showing an aerial view of the Brooklyn bridge with Manisha and Jackie's voices fading away and the music takes over - a not-to-be-missed for any lover/admirer/student of music and specifically for those young composers with big dreams!
The sore points - sometimes, when the expressions on the actors/actresses faces do not match the dialogues, you can see the indecisiveness on IR's part to choose the kind of music for the expressions and dialogues, but, nevertheless, handles it with the deftness of a skilled craftsman, a Michelangelo sprucing up the shabby work of a blind man! The narration was hopelessly jarring at many places, thereby making it a difficult task for IR to maintain his tempo - but still, the film's weaker moments are solely salvaged by IR's score! When I told my Northie friends that the BGM was by Maestro, they mistook him to be the composer of all the songs as well- so when the first song (a hopelessly banal one at that) started on screen, I had to hastily tell them that it was not by IR and that only the KAUN DAGAR song and the BGM were by IR !
How I wish IR had done all the songs as well- RK SANTOSHI should have acknowledged the contribution of IR in the beginning as a separate title - whereas, IR's name appears as part of the rest of the titles - so many would not even be aware of IR's role in the BGM score!
The use of cellos, oboe, piccolo, and violins in the multi-layered BGM score is too much for a film like this - the film does not match the BGM score - all in all, LAJJA not to be missed for the handiwork of a genius
- How I wish I had the money to produce something creative for IR to give more of his immeasurable genius!

guyz,
Saw Lajja y'day. Lajja as movie is indeed a good movie. Like Hey Ram, may be it's a thinking man's movie and not for the majority of the nuts. As for IR's score....be prepared!

On the whole the BGM is quiet effective...especially, the last 30 min. or so is really profound and noteworthy. Now I know why somebody said it is "Hollywood kind":-) Very good use of trumpets, violins, flute(s) and drums for the fight/clash scenes.
