I saw this movie last night on cable. I missed the credits. The songs were atrocious. Since it was a Vijayshanti movie, I thought it was by some Telugu MD. But my friend told me that it was by Deva. Its got to be Deva's worst ever. I want your opinion on this album.

cosmician.,
I already mentioned in some other thread - I am not musically sound to do what you have stated and I am a plain listener., My statement (Muthu and Padayappa not great) is purely based on my feelings - not music skills.,
ARR failed to impress me in those Rajni movies which Deva did without any problems in Badsha - thats my argument. All IMHO.,

cosmician..... u want to compare with Veera ??? hmmm... "Koonji Koonji".... one of the best by SPB.... and u want to compare this song with Muthu and Padayappa.... oh well, u can, its up to u.... but whatever u say cannot eliminate the subjectiveness of this argument..... it will have a *no end* situation, just like all the other IR vs ARR threads :-)

NagaS,
I am surprised that you didn't know our beloved thenisai deva has copied almost all
the songs in Baatsha. I happened to listen
to the original song in Caravan sung by
Lata and MDd by the great R.D.Burman (I
have been listening to his songs a lot
nowadays). After IR, RDB has impressed
me a lot with his music. I will have to
find out from Deva about all the good
hits of RDB !!!

Cosmician,
A digression, how did you choose this
name? It sounds very interesting. If you
don't mind, please give your original
name also.

Cosmician.,
:-)
I never believe Deva and I know he copied many, if not all the songs in Badsha., I was just talking about the music for a rajni movie, It can be a copy, But i liked Badsha (And veera) more than Muthu or Padayappa., (This doesn't mean I am supporting the Ctrl+c., Ctrl+v work Deva does :-)

No problem NagaS....I am not claiming superiority of Muthu / Padayappa over Veera....only trying to contend that they are also good works...I hesitate to use the word "equally" bcos these films had songs that broke away from the trend of what we were used to listening in a Rajni film...
Athi :
Actually Athi and Cosmic, I think have the same meaning !! I have a knack for misunderstanding, Kiru will tell you...so better ask me what you meant straight..am a bit of a tubelight :)
Anyway...I loved the "Konji Konji" number...great tune and beautiful development....it was also released the same time as Duet I think..I still have an old casette where I've recorded these songs from Chennai FM that played these songs when the ambums were released in 1994
NagaS :
You have a point...the music of Veera and Badsha were somewhat more complete...it gave you the feeling "yes there is nothing lacking"..thinking back Muthu and Padayappa sound hollow..this is mainly because the music has been stripped of what we have been so used to hearing...IMHO

Cosmician:
No, I think the original in a punjabi song, "thuthaku thuthaku thoothiya." This song was very popular in DD2, 1987 to 1990 (I am not exact with the years....I didn't concentrate on DD after that). I could remember the song even now. It was probably popularised by Gurdas Singh Mann.

Wow...Deva did a fine lift from our remotest memories....was the Punjabi version inspired from Khaled ?

The punjabi song, I think is much older. There was a programme in DD1 or DD2, called regional Chitrahar. In that program, songs from all language films were shown. For punjabi film song, I remember seeing this song several times. Also, since Gurdas Singh Mann was a punjabi folk singer, he used to perform the same song, that he did it in film, in the stage. I could not recollect much from the memory now.
If Khaleed is the father of this song....then so be him. The bottom line is "DEVA suttufied"

The IR song "Anne Anne, Sepoy Anne, Namma Oru Nalla Oru, Ippo romba kettu pochunnae" is perfectly inspired from a western classical. Unfortunately, I don't remember the album. Anyone has any other info ?
