That was a very informative review Shashi. Geetha feels that there is humming in 'Keeravani' in Niagra song. I liked the switch from Kalyani raagam to the fast paced Chillallavaa... with the background humming by the male resembling Khaled which is very peppy about that song.

Shashi: Excellent review....Keep it coming. Thanks for the info on the Veena interludes, I too thought it was Balachandar.....By the way, you are so right about the Ananda Bairavhi touches in Theendai.....As for 'A kind of drum piece which morphs in and out', thanks for the info., again. The jungle beats seem to blend well, I don't think it's a timing defect....Jungle has a funny effect that seems disjolted sometimes. I guess ARR uses his electronic resources well, unfortunately a lot of the time, it's not original, but effectively used.
Sriram: The Keeravani touches come in the Niagra song, where the 'Khaled' male voice sings Niagra, with Hindustani Gamak touches and also Harini's long korvais.....Have you had another chance to listen to it? Please give me feedback. Your review in Indolink was excellent.

Hi guys
I just listened to Enswasakatre songs. Well the songs like any other ARR's album is creative and well crafted. The Thendai song particularily is great. So is Chinna chinna mazhaithuulli song by M.G.Sreekumar. Though it is a rehash of 'Bansi Banu Uthi Karo', the song just grows on you. The Jumbalaka number is fast paced and I am sure it will look great in the silver screen with Raju Sundaram dancing for this number. Overall a great album from ARR.

Hi,
Listened to ESK songs and they are quite good. I am sure they will sound better on subsequent hearings and as usual, like any other songs, I will be pulled to hear it again and again, and after some threshold, I will not hear it again for a long time.
BTB, what happened to "Kaadhalar Dhinam" music album? Has it been released?

A couple of the tunes in the album are quite good.
But I have to whine about the quality of lyrics and the pronunciation in most songs in the album!
In the song En Swasakkatre,
SwaasamaaNadu (Moonu Chuzhi Na!)
PaNNeer (Moonu Chuzhi Na! AGAIN!)
Ayyo kadavule!
Tamizhkkolai thaangalai!
I just hope ARR doesn't use MGS's services in its Hindi version too-(if there's slated to be any)
MGS has already spoiled one good song in Doli Sajaake Rakhna with his attrocious Hindi Pronunciation!)
Hats off to Rramesh Mahadevan who predicted earlier that soon we'll have Niagara and Viagara in TFM songs! How true. For those who haven't savoured his algorithms for new songs please go through

The songs of Dil Se(Hindi) are wonderful especially Chaiyya chaiyya and Jiya Jale sung by great lata Mangeshkar. I hote Dil Se should be called as the best film album in India this year.

I read in Dinakaran that more than 6 lakhs copies of ESK is sold out and this is a new record with respect to the no. of days past the release date.

SM,
FYI, Dhalapathy holds the record for the maximum no of cassettes sold (there were claims that aNNAmalai bet the record ,which I'm not sure about). 5 lakh cassettes were sold on the first day itself.

hi.,
Dhalapathy still has the record of 5 Lakh cassettes on the very first day., only other album which got a sale of over 2 lakhs in first day was 'Batsha' ( 2.5 lakhs )., heard that TR's 'Monisha en monalisa' sold 3 lakh in first day & this news ( 6 L ) about ESK., - however i am not sure about these things.

I am an absolute illiterate when it comes to Carnatic ragas and the works...So this is more of a question to all ye exponents out there!
I listened to "Thirakaada kaatukulle.." and thought that the first line is very very similar to the first lines of the song "Karpoora Mullai Ondru.." from the movie "Karpoora Mullai"...
Is this something that I am imagining (in which case I am sorry!) or is it that both these songs are based on the same raga or something???

Listened to ESK.
theendAi and oru thuLi are excellent. Wish ARR would come up with more such songs. oru thuLi has a mallu tinge to the tune.
En Swaasak kaatrE is too flat with little variation. thirakkaadha has good pallavi and UK has spoilt the song. The Unni Krishnan's part of SaraNam is really weird.
JumbalakkA and Niagra are the worst songs ARR has come up with in the recent days.
Even though the last two songs have excellent tunes, there is no depth in the music. Interludes are nothing to write home about. TheenDaai, the grandiose ending in the saraNam doesnt add beauty to the song [VM's bend has been nimirthfied in this song. Especially the saraNams, I can hear VM's moochchu thiNaral. yEsu naathar kAtru..? VM has unabashedly copied this from 100s of pudhukavidhai junk that were written in the 80s] Also the theendAi bit in the end could have been avoided.

Kitcha,
Thirakkatha kaattukulla, ?I think is in a major scale, whereas Karpoora mullai is in minor.

on: Mon Feb 22 14:11:01 EST 1999
Murali Shankar,
could you tell me precisely what scale is the song 'thirakkatha kattukkuLLE' is set . ARR had made a bold attempt to make UK sing in probably a 'kattai' or 'sruthi' to be in sync with scale(has to , isn't it?) . It is probably one very close that of a female singer. UK has maintained it all thru the song and does not seem to have out of octave. When i tried to visualize how UK would have 'sounded' if he has sung with his natural pitch, it felt it may have streched out of octave. Would some one clarify on this? The reason why people don't like it may be due to the fact it sounds unfamiliar of Unnikrishnan. Unni mentioned in one of his interviews that he can modulate his voice to even 2.5 or 3 kattai.

Since ARR couldnt find time to complete the BGM for ESK,he has requested Devas brother Murali to complete it for him.
Read this interesting info in Tamilcinema.com:

Ramesh,
I have the same opinion too. I shall let you know the scale soon. I feel it is disturbing to hear UK in such a scale. I would rather have Sujatha or chitra sing this for me. ALL IMO
- From: UV (@ webgate0.mot.com)
on: Tue Feb 23 11:21:51 EST 1999
So, the BGM is gonna be better than expected , as Deva is better than arr in BGM .
Junior,
salman khan got the best supporting actor role and u know who else were nominated ??? manoj bajpai for satya!!!!!!!
we were all sure manoj will make it. but when they announced salman's name , we knew how genuine it was. Indeed , arr won it as expected.

And What movie did Salman get it for?
Kuch Kuch hota hai..for a two-bit role, etched in his usual lacklustre style.
Goes to prove ...but then, why waste our time pointing out ,UV(Now I know for sure you are karthik:))?
