cbala,
are you a producer who raja refused to work with-your outpourings sound more like a frustrated soul than that of a fan-it does not matter whether IR or ARR.get a good head cleaning kit!

CBala:
Thank you for the opportunity to express my views. I respect what you said, with much disagreement.
1) It is universally known concept that good orchestration is equally an important contribution to the success of the music director. But, You seem to propose an anology that most of the music directors whom you think are successful today have good orchestration - better than IR. I disagree.
2) Let's not talk about his, (or anybody's) humility for neither you nor me have been with him for any full day to understand the underpinnings of his interactions with other film personalities. We have largely relied on the prejudiced media.
3) Part of your analogy that he lacked humility has an ideal response in the same paragraph you have written " gambling film makers rushing behind him". May be, he tried to runaway from them.
4)Without undermining the elegance of patriotic songs of yester-years' seasoned composers, what IR has done is to present the same personality of Bharathy in a different light as warranted and requested by the Producer or Director or whomever it may be.
5) Thieving ? Do you know what it means? It means, the following, besides others:
a)Have you listened to Maxwell's Embrya. I think it's the second or third song. ARR's Vandemadaram's "Maa Thuje Salam" is a cool lift from that.
b). This first song in Maxwell also, in combination with Ace of the Base's " All that she wants", turns out to be the " Telephone mani pol.." of Indhiyan.
c)I was listening to an old Tamil duet song: " Thanthaikku Oru Piravi, Thaayaarukko Iru Piravi,
Koduthaen Marupiravi, ... Kanna, Onnai Petraeduthaen Marupiravi". I am not sure which movie it is, but the tempo and voice seemed it is of Gemini Ganesan movie. This song is nothing but " Mustafa, Mustafa, Don't worry Mustafa". (Could any oldies fan say which movie it is from ?)
6)Without trying to understand on what light you meant by "midas touch", let me present the following:
a) Listen to " Aayiram Koddi Suriyan polae " in Karisal Kattu Poova. Listen to the first piece of music before the song begins. You will figure out the tempo in your heart, similar to the inebriated lover-boy. Listen to the first bgm, you will conscientiously feel the mood of the flying bird that is symbolized by the pounding bass. Go deep into the same bgm you will figure out the beat of the mirudangam in the bass and chisel.
In the second bgm, realize the flute and the light guitar marriage that will make you remember the IR of "Panner Pushpangal".
7) Jaw-breathing fatality? It should be jaw-opening awe. Listen to the pathos song sung by IR in Karisal Kattu Poove. In saranam, you will see the echoing flute and the subsequent line with individual notes of flute. Never has any composer given this kind of simple yet intricately mixed composing. I am waiting for you to comment on the complexity of his tunes and chordings, though I don't cliam myself as an authority.
Thanks again highlighting few points to express myself. Tone down on your emotions, please.

Koti,
Embrya was released in June 1998 and Vandemataram
in Dec 1997 according to yahoo. Follow these links
Embrya:
http://album.yahoo.com/shopd=ha&id=1801175847&cf=10
Vandematarm:
http://album.yahoo.com/shopd=ha&id=1801417304&cf=10
If these links don't work, you can go to music.yahoo.com and do a simple search for Embrya
and Vandemataram.
I've listened to all Embrya songs samples and I don't see any resemblance with Vandemataram or Bhaarateeyudu. Could you pin-point the songs you suspect have been copied.

IR's decline..."lost midas touch"
IR has stopped learning...I don't blame him...but I only wish he hadn't...he had achieved the top spot in his limited circle but stopped at a time when a whole world could have been conquered...ARR was the lucky one..maybe the world is a loser...
I wish IR had used his melody creation powers of "carnatic + tamil folk + western classical" fusion with the 3-dimensional feel of World music...I wish that he had experimented on ways to improve the quality of lyrics in songs and create a new golden era similar to the 50s and 60s when songs had superb meaning..after all the best song is where both the lyrics and music pull at your heart strings.
I wish that he had realised that with the opening of the Indian market and with the new consumerist generation exposed to Hollywood Technology and different world cultures and music through Satellite TV and Internet...it was time for him to reinvent himself because if he truly loved music...he was in the best possible position to carry it to new heights - an experience that ARR lacks yet...
I only wish that he had realised that :
"As long as I live, I learn"- SRI RAMAKRISHNA PARAMAHAMSA &
"In this world of constant change, it is only the LEARNERS that inherit the future, the LEARNED find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists." - ERIC HOEFER
But then I also know that he knows all of the above and knew that his time had come to retire and it was not his task to grapple with a world where it was not worth for him to continue fighting in....because as he himself had said..."all this expressions of my creativity is the result of karmas that are yet to be burnt"..it is this spiritual humility that makes him great apart from his garangutan contribution to Tamil music which can proudly claim to be the only kind of music in the world to have adapted from all the styles and music cultures from the world into a distinct style of its own.

no IR's fan is sad that too when he releases 'friends' or bharathi kind of album. there is a bunch here who are totally satisfied with his performance. if u're a sad fan that's probably something to do with you. in recent days his songs are consistent and up to the mark. if he is not doing something you expect then there might be a reason.
