  IR IS ALLTIME GREAT. HIS OLD SONGS OR NEW SONGS THEQUALITY OF THINKING IS VERY GOOD.OK NOW A DAYS HE IS GETTING ONLY FEW FILMS BUT THE SONGSARE REALLY GOOD. EXAMPLES,KADALUKKU MARIYADAI,SETHU,BHARATHI,HEY RAM,FRIENDS,KANNUKUL NILAVU,KUTTI,... HE IS DOING HIS PART REALLY WELL. hIS UNCOUNTABLE NO OF FILMS WERE BOX OFFICE HIT PURELY BECAUSE OF HIS MUSICAND SONGS.WHEREAS IN ARR CASE IT IS A BIG QUESTION MARK.

  In Kadalukku Mariyadhai, there is a BGM piece, when they show Shalini's taking a decision. The whole BGM starts with a piano chord, with a rthym in "Thisra nadai". Then comes a version of Enai thalatta varuvaalo, in that rthym. Scenes, flip in such a way that, they show, vijay regaining, and shalini getting more and more confused, and so the BGM also comes, as happy and sad tunes. There is a concept named "Chaayavad", in hindi poetry, which deals with visualizing the same stuff, under different feeling, and the same stuff, turns out to represent both the feelings. Likewise, IR's same music, can fit on both the feelings.

  I really wonder, if TFM MDs, would like to think on that line, rather than trying to give, something, different. I would say, music on these lines, really makes sense. IR has really made a good contribution to music, with sense.

  This Friday, after three weeks of no releases, Rajkumar Santoshi's real-life-inspired saga on the trauma of a rape victim, and women in general, Lajja, releases. Anu Malik's music is doing just about OK, and is expected to pick up with the release of the film, which is carrying excellent reports. But those who have watched the film at the previews can't stop raving about the quality of Ilayaraja's background score.
  
  Yes, the veteran composer from the South has been roped in by Santoshi, and the effect is to be seen to be believed. Apparently, each key scene in Lajja in enhanced thanks to the music, and the important sequences involving Manisha Koirala and Madhuri Dixit leave a telling impact. With someone as legendary as Dr Ilayaraja, we didn't expect anything less anyway!

  Long Live IR. The web site of the movie 'music' section talks only about IR's music, what a tribute for him by people who genuinely know music and IR.
  
  But, my fear is: would the 3 hour film on an rather not so thrilling a theme as this one find favor among audiences? will they sit thru 3 hours?
  
  Another damn good question: why did not Kamal have IR score the background score for Aalavandhan/Abhay?

The music industry revers his talent and has rightfully bestowed him the status of an icon. Lajja's astounding background music which elevates its effect, is the result of Ilaiyaraaja's phenomenal talent.

  The aura attached to Lajja is akin to that of a grand epic ! And it thus demanded a background score that would do justice to its magnanimity. The illustrious illaiyaraja who has given background music for Lajja, was inspired to give it more than the best. He and Rajkumar Santoshi decided to record the background score in Budapest. Mr.La'szlo Kova'es was hired as conductor for the Budapest Symphony Orchestra. He came down to Madras to discus the musical notes written by illaiyaraja. Ten days later we went to Budapest and recorded the background score with a 90 piece orchestra & 120 piece orchestra.   Always IR is the first choice of Kamal. But presently IR do not have commercial attraction and also Abhey is not his own movie.
  
  Also when Abhey movie started, Kamal himself was in precarious situation financially. Probably he did not had the say then.
  
  We have to see in future. By the way his next movie Pammal Sambandham also has Deva as score.

  Watched Lajja yesterday...
  the BG Score as expected was awesome...
  The movie has 3 different stories linked by
  one woman.
  Kaun dagar,The song links all the three stories...
  
  The Score for the first two stories are as good as
  hey ram ! When the story to moves toa remote village in UP, Raja goes a notch above hey ram !
  
  Chorus has been effectively used during the chase sequences. The last 45 minutes of the movie is Raja's !!

  Prasad, i think it was the humiliation of Hey Ram that must have scared Kamal in approaching IR again. The BGM is by Mahesh as Ehsan reveals. Thanks for thecomment.

  What humiliation you are talking about? I don't get it. Recently Kamal compared IR and Abdul Kalam for their uniqueness in respective fields.
  
  I personally feel IR did a great work in Hey Ram.

  In that interview, he explicitly praised IR for his BGM in Hey Ram! When BGM of Hey Ram was going on in Hungary, we got to read lots of tit bits about it.
  
  I don't think BGM is done by anybody other than IR. I don't know how Eshan says it is by Mahesh.
  
  One more thing. If IR did it to other guys, I may trust. Not for Kamal. In fact anybody of IR's repute, will not accepts a movie which is already composed by another legend L.Subramanian. The fact IR accepted and completed that work successfully, shows that he did it right. I think he got Lajja project because of BGM in Hey Ram.

  Hi Prasad! What i meant was after the much hyped publicity for Hey Ram and the subsequent failure of the movie, Kamal must not have felt confident enought to convince IR to join for Abhay. That is all.
  
  About Abhay's BGM, Ehsaan is a thread opened for SEL, mentioned that the BGM for Abhay is done by Mahesh.

  In fact IR was the first MD approached for Hey Ram. Since it was a controversial movie, IR refused. Then Kamal went LS and came back to IR and this time convinced him to do it. IR obliged because of the pathetic situation Kamal was in and also because of the respect he has for Kamal.
