Very sad! His perseverance and the spirit to do his dream job well inspite of his ill health is something remarkable! Once Kamalahasan had mentioned about that in an interview (i think in vikatan). He said how Mahesh used to take the effects of chemotherapy casually and continued working.

I loved Nammavar songs and the Sottu Neelam jingle. Mahesh was a truly talented individual and his passing away is a great loss for the Thamizh film industry. May his soul rest in peace and may God give his family the courage to face their loss.

I had always wondered who composed the Sottu neelam jingle, easily the most catchy jingle at that time!
My condolences.

Mahesh scored music for a telugu film named 'Preminchukunthaam Raa' starting Venkatesh couple of years back. It was a super hit movie with excellent songs. I think the film had 5 songs and all of them were excellent. After that film Mahesh was hospitalized and he came back after few years of treatment. If there was no medical problem, he should have been a leading MD in Telugu atleast. God Bless his soul.

bit of stats...To my knowledge, the Sottu Neelam jingle came up around end of Oct 1991. A significant thing about it was, at that time on DD, English jingles were popular, there was hardly a hummable one in tamil.

Music was more in his blood than cancer could take, which made him live long and give us all that we can enjoy. A great soul, I pray GOD for him to get eternal peace and bless the family with courage and strength. Surely He was one of the under rated talents in TFM

ramya,
actually Mahesh's 'Udayodu pirakkavillai' has some shades of the 'Sneha bandhathaal' jingle for Ramco.
It used to be my favorite for its music and also because it featured a classmate of mine Gayatri.

passing away of mahesh is shocking.13 years ago when i saw his chest xray i knew he was in for a problem.treatment resurrected him and the lone battle he waged against the disease will be understood only by his supporting wife chitra and the members of his family.my heart felt sympathies for chitra and her daughter.
though the flower is witherd the fragnance is still lingering.

It is sad to note the passing away of Mahesh. He has proved the saying "Great men die young". It means a lot for the masses to miss a musician and for the family it is an irrepairable loss. I pray to God to give the family the courage to bear this loss.

Usual Kamal speaking. Confusing the audience more than allowing them to concentrate on the topic he is "SUPPOSE" to (or supposing to) talk.
Instead of Kamal's blabbering read interview with Mahesh's wife that appeals more (not only in the content but also in the presentation, style etc).
As someone said Nammavar is inspired from Mahesh's story. Could feel that, that movie was a tribute to a great soul and fortunately(for us) he associated himself with that movie.

this is really shocking news. i am a maharashtrian deeply interested in south indian classical as well as other music.
i became a great fan of this mahesh after i heard NAMMAVAR for the 1st time(that is in 1998). since then, i have been searching for its lyrics. today, i casually logged into this site with an anticipation of finding the songs, but alas, only to see this skocking news.
i am speechless.
anyway, he will remain with us through his tunes. after-all we cannot surpass fate.
LONG LIVE MAHESH.
