I am sure there are some friends there sharing my openion. Up to now, deva has never made any original music( we know that?). If you are keen you can trace the music back and end up in a old music (or old, present western or khana music). It is not just IR that he is copying; it starts from some poor khana musicians and goes up to western musicians. The skill of Deva is to mix very nicely others' tunes. (I like all songs. I really enjoy some of the khanna songs- the problem is I know the original ones and I am sure he has not composed any of the khana songs). Deva, sure made some nice songs that all of us might have enjoyed.
The fact is THEY ARE NEVER ORIGINAL.
OK. Now the point is this:
Can any one mention any song that they think that is something original from deva:
I give some examples
Pull veli pull veli
Mottu mottu malaratha mottu
thanga magan indru singa nadai pottu
and so on
all khana songs from the movie 'indu'
(they are not original-)
I need the help from those friends I mentioned in the beginning in finding the originals.

Dear friends,
I was very new to TFM when I started this thread. But for the past 3-4 days I spent enough times to go through the archive and now, I know a bit about the views of some people here. I had to do this before answering this mail.
I must say one thing about originality or original work. It is not my lines. Once some one wrote the same story of another writer in Vikatan. One of the readers wrote this.
‘Pirrarrudaya padaippai thiruduvathu enpathu
Oruvar valiyodu pirasaviththa kulzanthaiyai thookik kondu povatharkku samam’
I think these lines express exactly what I think about copying some body’s work.
I do not have anything against deva. Even I don’t propose anyone to be against him. There is no need to find reasons to hate any music. (Deva makes good music. It must be good. Because the originals are good.)
Some of the responses from the TFM friends really make me wonder about the mentality. See one of the typical reply
"Deva may be a copy cat. But he has done some good work in some films. The
songs "un uthattora sirippae" (Paanjalankurici) and "Vanna nilavae" (Ninaithaen
vandhai) are some good songs. In the same film Paanjalankurichi there is
another good song, "Aathoram thoppukkulla". I was wondering I had heard this
tune before. Somedays before, I again heard George Michael's "Faith" album. My
God. The song from Deva was an exact copy from the album "Faith". That's ok.
As long as he gives some good songs and we have not heard of it before or
forgot it, it's ok."
And response for such mails was
"No doubt Deva's songs are very enjoyable; But music goes beyond enjoyment,
when we start nurturing a sense of appreciation and awe for the creator...and
we come to know that our dear 'creator' was only a copy cat, it does definitely
hurt.....our own conscience will mock at us for having appreciated the wrong
'creator'.
And with Deva, we end up with this feeling so often....
If you want to appreciate Deva without having any problems....listen to his music
and his music only, so that you never discover the original"
That’s a good reply.
Now to devathi deva.
OK. Songs of Bob morley or Boney M or Titaonic.. whatever it is. Let us say no body knows(??) in Tamil nadu. And Deva is really doing a great job in lifting them up.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE KHANA SONGS?
You don’t have any idea where they are coming from.
May be ,in the case of western music, the original musicians do not care(?) about Deva’s ways of making money.
What about the poor Khana Musicians??
Have you ever heard their original songs. Do you know any one of them.
I will introduce some of them if you want.
I can show you the originals of some of his groundbreaking hits.
How can you justify this,: The khana musicians hardly manage to sell their music cassettes.
You know how we call this behaviour?; ‘ VAYITRRIL ADIPPATHU!’.
Be Honest. Don’t you think they should be recognized?
Not only me, most of us appreciate the music. Whatever it is. But in this case of Deva, just enjoy the music. DON’T EVER SAY THAT IT IS SUCH A WONDER FUL COMPOSING OF Sir…SO&So! Because we do not know if it is true or not.
He does not deserve such an Appreciation!
If IR copies, ARR copies, still we see some original music from them.
With deva, after all these years I have seen that all of his songs can be traced back to some one’s song. People who know only western music believe that Deva atleast composes some original khana songs. But the truth is not even that.
Some people say ‘I don’t care, I just like his songs’
I think it is very irresponsible and such an approach will kill the society.
In any case, if it is a song of Deva, appreciate him how nicely he has copied the song, how nicely he is standing on the brains of others.
BTW, Did he get the ‘sir’ award?

Just to add fuel to the fire...
Pullveli pullveli (the supposed original) is a direct lift from Maggie Mae(I don't remember the exact title) by Rod Stewart (one of his very early period songs - somewhere in the 70's). The tail piece of this song has a background (acoustic)guitaring that is the start for our 'pullveli, pullveli thanil'...! The song by rod stewart can be found in any of his 'greatest hits' albums.
From the same film (Aasai) which contained this 'original', another hit song is 'meenamma...'. Try to get the self titled album of Genesis (a band originally composed of Phil Collins, Peter gabriel, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks. Later Peter gabriel left). The album came in 1980 or 81. It is re-released by our (Indian) MIL. The first song in this album is 'Mama' - sung by Phil Collins in a 'mirattal' tone. The 'rythym of this song is 'slow tempo'ed for meenamma. Listen to the song and you will know what I am speaking about...{;>)
Will keep posted more about 'western lifts'.
Keep the Fire Burning. It helps me learn typing...

I was impressed with ezhudhugirEn oru kadidham & poRuL thEdum ulagil. Are they copies ?
Of course the song 'life-ku 4 ezhuthu' is 'inspired' by didi (khaled) which is a favourite of dEvA.

Arun,
That song by Rod Stewart is quite famous I guess, because I have heard it many times in radio when I have been in Walmart and other shops.
