  Your padayappa review was very refreshing and I am in agreement with your opinions. BTW, did the suthi suthi song seem similar to the opening lines of 'pachai kiligal tholodu..' of Indian ?

  Very poor publicity for the SStar in the song Em peru padayappa. Some samples:
  
  A. Singa nadai pottu sigaraththil eru, sigarathai pidithadhum vanathil eru:
  
  1. Does the lions do trekking?
  2. Singanadai is not the way to reach heavens - or sky even; the only literal way to reach sky is by airplanes, figurative way is even worse (only by death??)
  3. Does it mean SStar has still not reached the sigaram? Does he have to climb yet? Then who's atop?
  4. Even if one reaches top, is it not true that one has to be with the masses (down) to be really good and popular? There are many political stars atop & aloof and hence are never liked by commons!
  
  B. Naan meesai vachcha kuzhanthaiada:
  
  1. Does it mean Sstar is always doing some Fancy dress stuff in real life? (children put on meesai then)
  2. Or does it mean he's some kind of immature guy who is still to reach adulthood? A childish fellow who cannot lead? (Kashtam, ivar pinnale oru periya padaiyappa!!)
  
  I strongly feel Sstar has been cheated outright by both the lyricist & the MD. It's high time he dumps the fellows!!

  Mr Recycle - Your posting made me wonder in how many more ways can ARR be insulted. :-))
  There are always some angles that the rest of us have overlooked, aren't there? :-)))
  
  IMO, ARR's songs for Padaiyappa are adequate; for the movie and the ridiculous plot. Enoughsaid.
  
  My interpretation of the above lines:
  
  "Sigaram" here is figurative of people's hearts and "vaanam" is, politics! He has already reached the people and now should attempt politics. I thought that the message was quite clear.
  
  Isn't the easiest interpretation of "meesaiyulla kuzhanthaiyappa" is of a good hearted innocent person, meaning an adult with child-like qualities.
  
  I am sure you know what the lines mean, but namma kitta chumma vilayaadureenga, illaiyaa? :-)))

  Regarding Taal refer Subhash Ghai's page which says it is THE best music that ARR has composed .Scheduled music release is in June while the film is to be released in July/August.

  same think can be said about the IR's new movie TIME. Director, actor prabhu deva everyone is raving about this album. Can we say it is ad promotion and hype. People fail to forget that,
  it is more pressure to give successful albums after such a hype, because one failure will be enough to bring you down. Let see how IR scores in TIME. BTW, there is no wrong in promoting and creating hype before the release, as long as it is

  Let me get back to padaiappa - the song "vetri kodi.. padaiappa" which seems to be blarring in every street in T.Nadu sounds so much like Iyappan-devotional-songs! Wish ARR had composed something better as the "theme-song"(?) for Padaiappa.
  
  May be, NOV is right. Many DF-ers have given the reasons for poor music of their favorite MDs as lack-of-inspiration, lack-of-quality-movie, this-movie-doesnt-deserve-anything-better etc. Can the same logic be applied to padaiappa too??

  I sincerly dont know, who you are?. :-)
  You may be right, that he did not tell anything wrong?. But stuff like hype, promotion and ARR is living only because of that, has been the ARR bashers mantra in this forum, and that could be the reason which provoked me to say this.
  But one can not stand for a long time, just with hype, if there is no quality to support. I dont have problem with marketting, and it is high time, for IR clans to start following this trend. :-)

  Why don't you suggest an ARR album and I'll try to review it honestly. I do not believe in unbiased reviews as I feel one has to compromise on honesty to be unbiased - that is, you will have to be diplomatic to be unbiased and I don't want to do that ! Perhaps I can try to review "Kadhalar Dhinam" as it has got some positive response from some here ?

  NEW SPECIAL: Taal and Sangamam is going to by the best Rahman has given. This forum is for Ilayaraja. Very few are un-biased poster, others always try to make Rahman look bad and Ilayaraja look good.
  
  How many more ways are you trying to make the 'genius' musician Rahman look bad? How can he stand the test of 7 years if he was so bad?
  Padayappa was no good, but Minsaara kanna was a perfect song for the situation and the voice choice was perfect!
  
  Rahman has introduced great singers like Unnikrishnan and Hariharan. They are also at the top, Thanks to him!
  
  In latest interview, even Nithyasree says that Rahman is a genius. I remember in this forum, people say that Rahman will never use Nithyasee again, because her husband was not nice to him! Not true. He is using her in Sangamam.

May '96: Fly from Toronto to Madras with fine cut of ``Fire'' in hand. A. R. Rahman sees it and doesn't say a word. I siting the hotel room for three days, waiting for his response. Finally, he calls and says, ``I will do it.'' I am ecstatic. Now we can have a release print by July'96.
  
  That is Rahman.
