pardon my two junks above. I hope atleast this time it would have come completely.
==================================================
Sorry some weird thing happened in my post. Let me repost it.
>>>>>>>
Actually, when I saw the movie I had to appreciate the fact that IR had composed the songs exactly to match the situation. For example, when Parthiban hits the 'gilli' into aishwarya's t-shirt, the song goes 'solli adikarathu machi super-adi'...
>>>>>>>
This is covered as "and songs picturization" in that statement. I too saw the movie. To my knowledge the songs were tuned and recorded first and then picturized later so the vulgarity OUGHT TO BE attributed to the scene/picturization not the tune.
Would you ever say the song Vaaseegara from minnalae is vulgar (glamour, in some people's view). Would you have ever expected such a treatement to that song. Many and I have imagined a picturization of heroine in a meddow, grooves runnning around now-n-then vanishing smiling hero. But what happened when u saw it in the screen. It made many to frown (may be the picturization is not as vulgar as the UV songs but still i consider them vulgar for such a beautiful tune).
------------------------------------------------
Yes that figure 100 is not based on any fact. Its from my memory something like "Only 1 or 2 songs comes to my mind".
But down the line i did not add just 100 alone, when i showed the list of not-liked song. I took them as 100s but at the same time i dont think its 1000s.
One more thing UV songs did not come to my mind when i considered "1500 good songs" even though i was " raving about" it.
>>>>>>>
Only 1 or 2 songs comes to my mind, that too only when the situation demanded.
>>>>>>>
:-)
"situation demanded" nice -- isn't it.
To my knowledge there are many mukkal songs esp. by LRE in pre-IR era.
But Yes I know and agree that IR indeed gave many mukkal munangal songs in TFM, probably the most number by any single TFM MD. But any way those were all added to the "discounted" list.
Hence 1500 good songs means 300-400 movies got good songs. Maintaining good songs for about 400 movies is not a easy task (IMO) only a great person can do it, that too while churning out equal number of not-like songs movies which are different from the goods. That is why I consider
IR as great/genius.
--------------------------------------------------
MIL and Vatsa, rajasaranam has already explained the point i put.
Thanks rajasaranam.
Iam just retyping the last paragraph once again with the added emphasis this time.
>>>>>>>
And if a person has done heaps of work and still sustained a higher rate (OF QUALITY) won't you consider that person as great/genius? Then whats wrong in saying that more no. of movies is "A" parameter for judging a person as genius/great? CONSISTENCY AND SUSTAINMENT IS WHAT WE SEE HERE.
>>>>>>>
If we say consistency we mean the quality there when we talk about quantity, right.

Dude, mukkal songs has nothing to do with a composer's ability (or inability). If anything songs like "Nila kaayudhu"(composed in Sriragam) reflected his abilities more, in adapting Carnatic scales to such situations, especially coming from a spiritual guy like him :-) You can accuse him from an ethical standpoint, but not from a creativity point of view. That still remains a very good composition in my books. Secondly, in addition to just songs you guys should start considering re-recording as well. After all re-recording is in a composer's job description and a composer gets paid for that. In hollywoood all that a composer ever gets to do is create BGM scores. Whereas in TFM, re-recording is not even being considered in debates. Sad. Lets see how the other MDs fare w.r.t IR in this regard ;-)

Vijay, I stand corrected. The cheap sounds featuring in songs has nothing to do with the MD's creativity, I accept. But I wanted to highlight the way in which IR and ARR approached such songs.
As many people claim, if IR had so much clout in the industry, he could as well have said no to the demands by the directors/producers to have such 'mukkal/munagal' sounds in songs. IR not doing that (clearly) shows his intention of willfully resorting to such cheap tricks for titillation. Yes, I do accuse him from an ethical as well as an aesthetical standpoint.
Now, I can understand (not accept) such sounds in a song coming in a song like -'Kanna thorakkanum saaami' just after the 'aariroooo' scene in Mundhanai Mudichu. Bhakyaraj would have wanted a song specifically with those sounds.
But in a song like 'Vanidhavani' from Vikram which is an amazing song acc. to me, these mukkal/munagal sounds appear initially. I am sure that even without those sounds the song would be as amazing. For, both SPB and Janaki both did their jobs well with well modulated voices to bring out erotism. I dont know why IR resorted to such sounds...
Kupps, when I said 'situation demanded', I meant songs like 'Kaadhoduthaan naan paaduven', etc. Can you give examples of the songs you mentioned?

IR's SYMPHONY WILL COME OUT WHEN MADDY BECOMES A IR-FAN...... i think this question "Whatever happened to Illayaraja's symphony?" is as old as ARR's career in which he has reached West end in London and Broadway in NY, had a ball in shanghai and partying in Mumbai.......and IR is yet to release his Symphony..........
mannn it is becoming more of SYMPATHY for IR rather than SYMPHONY.....

Hi,
I read somewhere that thiruvasakam in symphony is postponed during pongal and there will be a TV programme about IR and this venture so that it will have a better publicity and it will be helpful in raising money.
I think IR will do a great favor not to come up with his Symphony no.1 and just this symphony just to save IR fan club from Maddy.

Actually we understand your anxiety. You claim ARR this & that, & here & there...whatever. But still you don't seem satisfied with all that. We understand that emptiness you're going thru as you seem to be more eager for the release of IR's symphony than the rest. I won't blame you ;)
There is a big difference between a composer like IR and the rest of the musical arrangers who are just earning a living. Whether IR releases his symphony or not or even if he suddenly retires NOW, all of us have got his ocean of works to savour and enjoy for the rest of our life. But sadly, that's not the case for you. You're just a gypsy like the rest of your camp. You hop on from place to another in search of something but yet cannot figure out what it is.
