SPB's greatest songs

I'd like to discuss the finer points of some of SPB's greatest songs ( I am sure the list is going to be endless )

  Sorry for my detailed posting...
  
  SPB's greatest songs have been first with MSV and then followed by IR. I won't call his voice golden because it does not have a metallic quality to it - you know what I mean - his voice is not a "GaNeer" voice. Wait a minute...I have not finished...but his is the only voice which has the following characteristics...
  
  It's such a sugamaana voice - romba base (or bass?)-um illaadha romba high pitched-aavum illaadha medium voice that is liked by all uniformly - I haven't heard any one say that he didn't like SPB's voice. It's a reality that he's a commodity in every household of South India. And he's versatile. And his voice suits any mood - and this is really important: A singer can be versatile but does his/her voice fit the mood? Well, his does. And last but not the least - his voice is so youthful even today! (I always used to think he's the male epitome of P Susheela for all these above qualities! :)))

  One third of the songs listed in IR 1000* is by SPB! Hence, let me list a few great non-IR SPB songs:
  
  -Engeyum eppodhum sangeedham santhosham- great tune & orchestration by MSV, splendid singing by Balu! (Ninaithale inikkum)
  
  -Another pleasant number from the same film - Namma ooru singari, Singapore vandhalam....
  
  -Sippi irukkudhu, muthumirukkudhu in VNS is wonder & of course with his best-match, SJ!

  SPB - I consider him as one of the all time greats
  in any music history. Ippadi oru voice kidaikka pona jenmathil niraiya punniyam seydu irukka vaendum (avrae othukkonda oru argument idu..). My favourites..definetely endless list, but due to time constraint I am listing only a few now. More later. Thanks for taking my views.

  The song was written by Gangai Amaran and not by Paavalar. GA has clarified this in one of his net-interview with Kalapugaz Thamil Osai. He has also mentioned as to why they used Paavalar's name in the movie.

  GA mentioned in an interview with Kalapugazh Tamil Osai that the situation in that movie is that SPB get a piece of paper on the beach in which the lyric is written by some famous writer (Is Paavalar so popular?) and they thought that it wouldn't be ideal to use GA's name.   Folks:
  
  On a concert by SPB and his troupe in Columbus, OH in 1994, SPB mentioned that "Mannil Intha Kahadhalandri.." was one of the toughest to sing for IR. He also mentioned that IR came up with that composition and IR insisted that SPB sing that way (the tricking of holding breath for a complete stanza; he said he was breathing as he was singing, but it appears as if he held breath for that entire stanza). He did sing that song on stage, almost the same way as it appeared in the original recording. There was a stanging ovation after he sung it on stage. Following it, he went on to remark how genius and prodigious IR has been for tamil music. He sounded very genuinely admiring IR for the format of that song.

  you seem to me mostly tamilians in here ,but i am a telugu interersted in music ,so i keep coming to this site to listen to IR songs.and now about SPB,
  for me SPB is the greatest singer in indian film history,may be only lata is as good as him.truly he is a living legend.the greatest songs sung by SPB are in my opinion...
  1)nenoka prema pipasini(telugu song..i dont no whether you guys listened to it in tamil..but it is simply great work by SPB..infact SPB himself said in a telugu tv channel programme in which he is an anchor that it is his personal fav.)anyway i think it is one of the greatest SPB has sung.
  2)and how about "e divilo virisana parijhathamo" from "kanne vayasu"....and again i dont know whether you have it in tamil..and much more later...
