Guys,
Please listen to the songs in the following link, and tell me what you feel..I am seriously trying to analyse how anyone can even hate IR...I mean seriously!! (Please select song no.9)
http://www.mail-bag.com/Malayalam.shtml
Please take no offense, I mean, this genius IR needs our support, always bruised and neglected by the very same guys who wee once falling at his feet, I am very sad that he doesn't get the praise that he deserves. He is like a "Vatradha Nadhi", can never run out of tunes, can never run out of marvels. Even his latest "FRIENDS" (both Mallu and Tamil, and mind you, they are totally different!!) was such a treat!!
I was listening to some of his songs at work, to be more specific, his "Friends" in malayalam. This album has 100% class, I was crying in ecstasy!! My colleague cameby, saw me crying, and I had to lie to him..
IR is my Man of the century. Infact, I am not ashamed to admit, I have cried many times listening to his songs..in front of my family while travelling in India this time. I told my brother who was driving, that I would give IR a million dollars if I become a millionaire, it looks like I mean business!! IR's music gives me all the ecstasy I need, I have listened to Yanni, MJ, Huey Lewis and the News, GNR, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eagles, Mark Knopfler, ABBA, Metallica, Pet Shop Boys, Sting..etc.. but they all, all of them, don't compare to the great Music Maestro.. not even a chance.
I want to know if there are any other IR-Crazy guys like me.
Finally, no offense meant, but any TFM (any music fan infact) who is not an IR fan are fit to pour molten lead into ther useless ears. IMHO.

Culturally and musically, the southern states are much closer than with their northern counterparts. rAja has tamil folk/carntic music 'in his blood'. And this music is not very different from telugu/malayalam/kannada. That is the reason he is able to do well in these languages. Considering the fact, in AP and Kerala have better exposure to Carnatic than even TN, he does really well in these languages. Oflate, he is doing fantastically in malayalam. Only in bharathi for Tamil he pulled out the stops, but he saves the classics for malayalam. You guys should listen to yAthrAmozhi, kaliyoonjal, friends and guru. in malayalam.
TN fans are now having a honeymoon with recording/effects/fusion of new genres etc. IR seems to be staying aloof in this environment.

yaaro,
yep, those were the days. "Orakalai godaavari.." from Abhilasha, "Andaalalo.."from JVAS, "Vennalai..." from KMDT, all songs from Premichu Pelladu( I wonder if this was made in Tamil, I think is one the most sensational music of all time), "Kinnerasani.."from Sithara.
Raaja Sir please have mercy on our souls and regale us once more in telugu.

Hai Jag,
recently, I watched a series of songs on TV from a movie unknown starring Sharath kumar, Ooha viz., "Raajakumari cheralo unte" etc. The compostion is extremely fantastic soothing my ears and mind. My mind was suggesting the midas touch of Raaja. But, normally, I keep track of every album of Raaja. This looked like a Tamil-Telugu dubbed one which was unheard.
Then began the hunt for the details. Though, I was quite sure that this kind cold only be the maestro's carving, I was yearning for the details.
Later, I was surfing through dhool.com in this site and got confirmed. Its "I Love India" Pal, what music ? what music ? The orchestration is too terrific ..bas...my thirst got quenched, I keep listening to all the songs from it now (Tamil). I feel quite comfortable with Tamil now.
Jag, I feel, we are missing even those films (95 -to date) dubbed in Telugu, mind u, there are good songs in
Rajasthan (Sharath kumar, Vijayashanthi)
RowdyYamudu (Satyaraj)
premakaavyam (Prashanth, kasthoori)
prema..... (Prashanth,....)
samaram (Suman, Roja) etc

Hi Prashanth,
You are right. Especially Prema Kavyam (kaadhal kavidhai), Samaram, Kurradu Baboi (rasayya) had some great songs. Nowadays telugu industry is hell bent on remaking Tamil movies instead of dubbing them. Inevitably they choose SAR or Deva as MD's for these movies and these guys half lift the tunes and change the orchestrization and make a total mess of the songs. Kaadhalikku Mariyadai comes to mind as a messed up version in telugu. Imagine Sethu, Bharathi, Hey Ram, Kutti being dubbed with the same quality we will have a real treat(but its like asking too much nowadays). Did you know that Friends is being remade with SAR as MD?. People are playing the name game, and quality of music is considered much later. Imagine the plight of the film industry when SAR and Deva's names are needed to sell the cassettes , using Raaja's music and tunes. Such hypocrites!.

Guys I don't have the patience to read the whole thread to see if somebody has already echoed my views.
But here goes my list of songs, which when I listen to I won't try talking for the next few minutes because my voice would be completely choked and I'd make a fool of myself trying to talk...
Azhaikkiraan maadhavan (Sri Ragavendrar - the first interlude the way the tempo is built to heighten the emotion - too much)
Vedham Anuvilum oru naadham (Salangai oli)
Sangeetha jaadhi mullai (Kadhal oviyam)
Incidentally, the above three songs during tragi-climax
Just too much - The actors / directors and everybody else will get dumbfounded about their contribution ...
