  All the songs in Bharathi are excellent. My order of preference are "Ninnai Charan" (IR version), "Nirpadhuve", "Edhilum", "Nalladhor", "Mayilpola", "Vandhe Madharam", "Kelada", "Aggini Kunjondu" and "Manila samudhayam". While I agree that it is difficult to imagine the "Mayilpola" song in a "Baharthy" movie, it is a beautiful song with a lovely tune. I consider this album to be another "Sindhu Bhairavi" by IR.
  
  I am also amazed at IR's versatality with his recent albums: from the contemporary style in "Time", "Ilayavan", "Kannukul Nilavu" and "Kanna Unnai Theduigren" to pure folkish style in "Karisakattu Poove" and "Thirunelveli" to "Hey Ram" and the classical style in "Bharathi".

  Please do not review that soon. I have emailed Muthamil adminsitration to host the rest of the songs. hope they do it soon. i can't resist to hear the rest of the album.

  vem is absolutely right. Though IR might not have had the scope to incoprporate brilliant orchestration in his songs in this type of film(like he did in guru) he could have atleast chosen some new ragas to lend some freshness to the songs. havent heard the other songs heard from what I hear the songs that I have heard have been proclaimed as the best here. it has been a letdown so far;((

  vandE mAtaram both by madhu bAlakrishnan
  
  
  Amazing songs in the movie bhAradhi.
  
  Both the tunes are complex and has been well sung by madhu bAlakrishnan. pulamaipithan has come up with quite decent lyrics for the first song even though I would have liked bhAradhi's own lyrics.
  This is a seamless song - there are no stand-out interludes. The saranams blend seamlessly into the pallavi. The orchestration is subtle and is quite Indian.
  
  vandE mAtaram starts with a march beat. The whole song conjures a group of freedom fighters marching on a civil disobedience march. The whole song captures this beautifully - the song is confident, is sure of its purpose but is not aggressive or violent. Brilliant song. When the vocals start it is persistently backed up with a violin. The orchestration is western and indian at the same time. rAjA's unique gift ! Listen for the thundhubi(?) sounds during the interludes.
  
  niRpadhuvE-harish rAghavEndar.
  
  A beautiful melody with understated orchestration.
  
  kELadA - rAjkumAr bhAradhi. I have always been a favourite of one song of rAjkumAr - nenjil uramumindRi (7avadhu manidhan) - always sends a shiver up my spine. This song is not quite in that league but still a very good song.
  
  madhu bAlakrishnan's voice sounds like a replica of yEsudAs but as you listen more you can distinguish between the voices. Best new singer I have heard in a long time.
  
  ninnai charanadaindhEn 2 versions - by bombay jayashree / iLaiyarAjA.
  What do I have to say ? A great tune spolit by lousy singers. jayashree just cannot pronounce properly - totally messes the song. rAjA pronounces it well but his voice just does not suit this song. What happened to a singer rAjA introduced - dEvi ? She had done a great job in thenpANdi singam and she would have been a much better choice than bombay jayashree (she should stick to carnatic stage)
  
  bhAradha samudAyam and akkinik kunjondRu - k.j.yEsudAs.
  k.j.y's voice is showing signs of age. Both songs are great and k.j.y does a good job of rendering both songs - has even taken care of pronounciation. In a year or two k.j.y may go latA's way.
  
  French Music - a short western classical march piece. I don't know how the music is French but visually must have to do with bhAradhi's pONdichEri days.
  
  Verdict : Buy the cd/cassette just for madhu's 2 songs and the rest of the songs are a bonus ! Or buy it for k.j.y's 2 songs and the rest are a bonus. Whatever reason you buy it for - you cannot go wrong with this album.

  Thanks for the review.
  I listened to 'The French Music' piece and I think it is actually their National Anthem.
  I wish the producers included some BGM pieces!
  In fact they should make it mandatory to include the BGMs in IR's new albums.

  Whoever says that Bharathi album is ordinary and Mellisai ragam are proclaiming themselves lover of hear tearing music produced by current MD like Deva and ARR. Go to them u will get what u guys want. Leave IR he gives the melody and music as it is.
