Hi ,
No, Raja is one of the best MDS.
MSV has done great work in the past.
Just try to play the bangoes pieces in oru penai parthu nailavi parthu, the piano opening piece in Padinoor adinal ada thondrum...
Here in this thread the majority of fans are from the Raja era or generation, most of them have not heard (atall) MSV much, it is not their mistake as Raja was feeding them with good stuff.
Msv is a jamboovan in music, his songs will be around tfm until the Air remains on the earth

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

If I am correct, there is one more good song in "Kannil theriyum kathaigal"- "Naan oru pon oviyum kanden" which is very pleasant to hear especially in the early morning and late night hours
Another notable film for MSV is "Nizhal nijamakirathu" - "Kamban emanthan" and "elakkanam marathu" by VJ(sweet voice)

Actually the topic should have been 'Can we list good TFM other than scored by IR' because there is no doubt IR is just great , greater and the greatest...

The topic is just about good MDs. Not about the greatest MD.
There are other good MDs in TFM. Actually there have been some fabulous ones, if you are willing to take past masters into account. IR thavira maRRa nalla MD-kaLai paRRi pEsa intha thread-ai ubayOga paduthungaLEn?
Give reasons why you think someone is good, examples etc. Leave IR out of this. That he is great is a given. No one need demonstrate it.

IR is great, no doubt. There have also been other MDs as great as IR (if not greater).Let us not judge an MD based on his musical knowledge alone.
In terms of emotional impact and imparting an expression to a tune and creating the required feelings in the listener through the movement of melody I think MSV is unbeatable. Listen to a simple melody like "maalai soodum mananaal", every line in the song has an inherent expression of its own which the inspires the singer to impart a "bhavam" while rendering the song. Unlike other MDs (during his time), he did not get stuck in a slot. He brought in the chord based arrangement into S.Indian films the same time Salil Choudhry and Shankar Jaikishan were experimenting with it in the North.Examples "Yaar antha nilavu", "Kan pona pokkile", "Naanamo".His range was very vast and one could notice and distinct change in his style and his thinking probably every 4th or 5th movie he scored music for , from '57 to mid seventies till the monotony of scoring music for MGR and Sivaji movies with the same theme started showing up. I think that was his low phase.
G. Ramanathan's composing psychology was often predictable and the "nadai" did not vary often (Except in "yaaradi nee mohini", "Nee illaatha ulagathile nimmadiyillai".
CR. Subburaman, I would rank above GR because of the range of his thinking and adaptability. ("Vaan meethile ....", "Vennilave",)
KVM (though his orchesta arrangement at times robbed the song of its impact) had similar numbers as mentioned above like "Gomatha engal kulamathaa" especially in the lines "Engal gomaathaa", "paaloottum anbile annai neeye". Another KVM song that springs to mind is "azhagu deiyvam mella mella" especially in the final culmination of the song when the hero runs out of words to describe the heroine's beauty, "itharku melum ilakkiyathil vaarthai illai solla".

I just love SP Mahendran. :)
Hello my friend.....!
Who is he talking to? As far as most of us know, he does not have any friends. :)
IR is a gift from the god to us.
And SP Mahendran is the punishment from god to TFMDF. :)
IR control tamil music world for more than 25 Years and still go strong.
That is, until the remote control was taken from him more than 10 years ago. :)
Although AR,Deva and etc come to tamil film music but they can't overtook our genius IR.
Really?
I know why!
It is because IR is not in the race at all. How do you overtake someone who is not in the race? :)
IR is really creative and briliant.
In direct contrast with some of his fans, I must add.
I think IR is best ever was and best ever will be.
Aha! Best in ??
And I don't think that you are thinking.
IR is just like as a Guru to me.
Sishya, sishya.
Genius, greatest and now Guru. When will he be god? Or has he already become one? :)
I respect him just like my father.
But more importantly does your father know that? And does he know that you are doing all these postings, using his money, your father I mean? :)
IR is NO.1 in India.
And you are No. 1 in this forum.
And just like you, I won't say in which area you are no. 1. :)
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
You are welcome.
HAVE A NICE DAY....
Same to you. :)
LONG LEAVE OUR IR.
Me too, wish him long leave, or better still, complete retirement from TFM.
If not for anything, at least to stop you from passing remarks about other artistes.

This ambleen chracter comes once in three weeks, posts some crap and then does a David Copperfield.
As for the thread, it also has vanished. Not terminated mind you.
What this means is that Admin knows what is going on. I am surprised that they have not banned him yet. Or maybe they are waiting for one final obscenity from him. :)

TFM Page - Mummy Returns:
Due to lack of interest (or lack of adulatory words from IR fans to his god or lack of "ARR Coalition" that IR fans can fight with), this thread was put in a box and put under the "Dark Chambers of TFM Page archive" in 1998.
Then comes, Leslie miller (I think he is probably an martian. You know martian computers have invisible IP's. You know that, don't you? Also, he couldn't have seen "Mummy returns" movies) reactivates this thread by expressing his terse and yet sophisticated opinion that "This is a very good site".
Raghu, who was hunting for searching for S.P.B, probably forgot to type .B and ended up at this thread (because of S.P. mahendran). (He is like the greek scholars in the library who provide all references to where the mummy is without knowing what the implications are). But applying his super duper SQL knowledge applied query "Select LastPostDate from TFMPAge where Page=This", he finds out that leslie miller has activated this page after 4 years and immediately posted a counter-query on why he activated this. Either he was curious or he hasn't had his share of posts for the day.
Then comes ROTFL (from the "ARR Mummy digging squad") - how can he miss "Ilaiyaraja" and "good" in the same sentence on a title of an active thread - who jumps in, ignores raghu's plea on "why, oh why, did you re open this thread after 4 years", searches like Inc. Tax department rummaging the "settu"-s house for jewelry and finds SPM's post. Everyone in malaysia felt a small flash of lightning at that time - I am guessing it was because of the way ROTFLs face lit up. So, he hammers away at SPM happily.
Then comes Mr. Foulmouth (who heads an extremist faction of the "IR Mummy digging squad", some people have disowned him like PLO disowns Fatah movement), who has vanished for a while but harbors a fascination for well you-know-what, ends his 3 month long hiatus and feverishly searches for "ROTFL" in the TFM Search box so that he can get his dose of "cuss-aine". He finds one and he posts. No more bandages on the mummy anymore.
Then comes the usual bunch of "street references", "nin-bing-a-ting-a-ling habits", "where's the dedicated thread on the 'The Vocabulary of the mummies and uncivilized'". Then comes usual plea from a devotee of TFMGod on the lines of
"arul purivaay arumuga indha TFMPage nalamay vaazhndhidave
nimmadhi enakkillaiye oovvoru thread-ilum sandai aeno?
mummy uyirthezhundhal indha vaiyagam thangidumo
kattharulvay muruga mummy-in kottathai adakkiye".
And after all that, a nincompoop finds time to go through all this, thinks it is worth his time to comment on these posts and spends 10 minutes typing a post commenting on the previous posts. He thinks that he can put the mummy back in the basket and ship it back that triangular thingy with lots of gold in it. But little does he realize what awaits him in the land of the mummy. Find it out on this thread in the days to come...
