Rahman is very bad at Backgroud Music right from day one. He is surviving in India because of his song albums not because of his BGM.
Hollywood wants BGM not Song albums. He cannot make it there.

Talking sense won't get you anywhere CommonFriend.
For the Hariharans and Rajus of this thread, it is just pure vayatheirchal that ARR is reaching places that IR cannot reach.
To these guys, just tell them: "Sym-PHONY."

In one of the HBO' s "Sex and the City" episode, there is a LA party scene and guess what ! The party was shown playing AR Rahman's exotic piece from one of his movie ( song : humma humma )
But he is not credited in title. Anyway his songs are already making rounds in party ,clubs .. Rahman is welcome here !!

>>>To these guys, just tell them: "Sym-PHONY."
Good joke.
But, just as did for IR's symphony, I don't want to do that ARR HW reach. I was fooled last time, but I am cautious this time. That doesn't mean that I will accept any thing negative about it.
I do not brand these two guys into the group of "IR fans". There are far more sencible people there. These two are a few bunch, who have this peculiar desease of gasteric acidity that cannot be cured by any antacid.
Only self control and mind set to appriciate others are the cure.

Frankly CF I would be happy if IR gains international recognition. I mean if the symphony takes the world by storm, aren't all of us going to be proud? I cannot imagine an ARR fan coming and deriding THAT.
But these guys neither have any patriotism nor a "periya-manasu." Heck they don't need that - it would be good if they are not green-eyed. Apparently, that is hoping for too much.

Sorry friends. I am very bad at spellings and I use only my two fingures to type. I miss out a lot of letters and wrongly type many.
I seldom go thru what I have typed. I just don't have time.
So, when ever I read my post and come thru mistakes I try to make a correction.
Sorry for that.

FROM YESTERDAY'S TIMES OF INDIA
It's Hollywood calling for A R Rehman
FILMFARE [ TUESDAY, MAY 14, 2002 11:05:52 PM ]
After some magnificent contribution to Indian cinema, A.R. Rehman has decided to lend his talents to foreign lands as well.
It is heard that he has got on his platter two international films, one of them being a Columbia Picture entertainer.
His fabulous scores in Andrew Lloyd Weber's Bombay Dreams earned him this opportunity.
Here's wishing the music composer the very best and hoping that he does become the first Indian to contribute to global music.

ARR in Hollywood ?
There are 1000's here in the US who are struggling to make a foothold including the Aaron carter's, Backstreet Boys, Nsync's, Britney spears..and all the others.. Mind you music has hit a lull here in the US.. there is no phenonemom yet after the Trail blazing 80's...
So people have turned to Latin pop for a change.. the likes of Shakira and other exotic singers like SADE are making their rounds...
If some of you ( who presumanly must be induced by LSD..).. think that ARR is gonna make it here..well he better have a return ticket.
As for Background Music .. you can forget it..
Hollywood doesnt give a damn about any kid who just meddles with sound fonts and has no idea what orchestration is...
So lets just keep this "ARR goes to hollywood" crap right here in the forum.. for it could really make you look stupid for promoting someone whos mediocre score in background film music causes..ones brain twist and chrun.. trying to connect the dots between the music and the scene.
Duh !

Backstreet Boys,Britney Spears etc struggling for
a foothold?
What is this Ravi-chap talking about? The celebrities in question are doing quite well,Mr Ravi's sage comments notwithstanding. And ARR doesnt have the physical "assets" to compete with them anyway.
As for Hollywood film-scoring fortunately for us this Ravi is not calling the shots.Sony is-and thats what counts. And no-we're not "presumanly induced by LSD".Its simple,if Lisa Gerrard can make it so can ARR.

Ravi...r u Manga madayan..to compare how's Brit, BSB, Aaron and the rest doing with what our great ARR is going to do?.
U r compring a 100 metre runner with a swimmer...adei thamby...Background music has their own ground to be establised in Hollywood..
of course..there are now Emmy, Grammy awards for Background musics in films...but they do have their own least-known awards for this kinda things..
how many of us know that there are a special award function just to appreciate the Special Effect and Stunt mans?..have u guys ever seen...well i did...through HBO or Cinemax (can't remember)..they had more categories than the Oscar reserved for Special FX and Stunt.
So, do compare a Kashmir Apple with a Kuwait Apple..which is fair..
but to compare Coimbatore Mambalam(manga)..and Pineapple..

Naturally Ravi would be a HCIRF. You wouldn’t expect a sane person to talk like that would you?
As for the nandu character in symPHONY thread,
naturally it won’t arise there. For the simple reason that it takes a HCIRF to stoop that low. You won’t find any non-IR fan making remarks such
as the above on IR, despite the symPHONY being talked about in this forum for the last four-five years with no sign of it appearing.
As I have said before, I will certainly be proud as a fellow tamil and Indian, if IR’s symphony is hailed internationally.
I cannot imagine any ARR fan to be jealous or envious of THAT.
And therein lies the difference between the HCIRF and the rest of us.

1. let ARR do MD work for a hollywood movie.
2. let him become noticed in hollywood due to that score.
let these 2 things happen first.
if ARR aint successful in hollywood, does that mean that he's a damp squib? he cannot score for any other movie including tamil? is his career over? namma ooru aalu oruthan hollywood poi try panraan-na paaratta venaam... atleast kurai solradha niruthalaam illiyaa....?

Since IR WAS NOT a kid who just meddles with sound fonts and he had real ideas about what orchestration is... can someone clarify how the BGM,Orchestra were in that movie.

I think Ravi made a good point.
I recently saw SPIDERMAN, and it seemed to me that its background music was an extremely good orchestration, especially the title BGM and places where spiderman chases to hunt for the thief who shot his uncle. I noticed that these bits were intense orchestration in WCM sytle no pop or any such flip-flop. When it comes to emotional attachment to the movie, nothing beats the WCM style orchestration.
One needs to be a good composer to do that.
