rjay: Even I felt the same for the first few hearings. But the appeal withers away as drastically as it grows.
I guess this is a feature of all pop music :-((.

Is Kannamoochi yaenadaa- song from KK2 set in 'Naattakurinji' - (Paalvadiyum mugam ninaindhu -Oothukaadu song)? It also seems to simulate 'Oru naa oru pozhudhu' from Andhi mandhaarai and 'Samundhar baar baar aathaa hai' from Jaadhimalli.

The Great Sir Andrew LLyod on ARR
Taken from http://www.ndtv.com/frames/default.asp?framepage=../showbiz/showbizinterview.asp%3Fid%3D32
How did the idea of a musical stage production set in India come about in the first place?
First, can I say that it is not going to be composed by me but by the wonderful A R Rahman. I have always been interested in Hindi pop music, certainly for the past four to five years. I thought some extraordinary things were coming out of it. So I sort of immersed myself with what was going on here and also in England, with composers like Talvin Singh and many others. I became incredibly impressed by Rahman's music. I asked him if he would come to London, and he did. I also asked him if he would be interested in doing a stage show. At that point when he said "Maybe", I thought I better come here and ask him. I am very happy to say that he has just said yes.
Have you seen any commercial Bombay films? What is it that fascinates you about them?
I have to come back to this particular composer. I think he has an incredible tone of voice. I have seen many Bollywood films, but what he manages to do is quite unique--he keeps it very much Indian. For me as a Westerner, I can always recognize his music because it has got a rule tone of voice of its own. It's very definitely Indian, yet it has an appeal which will go right across the world. He will hit the West in an amazing kind of way; that is, if he is led in the right way.
Roughly, what is Bombay Dreams going to be about?
It is a very good idea for you to ask me, but I don't quite know yet. I think that the story should be set here. My role here is to try and encourage one of the great musicals talents working here at the moment to come into musical theatre in whatever way he in the end wants to come. I don't want to say to him, "This is the story." I think it will work in the West. It's not my position to do so. I think he is potentially a great musical theatre writer. What I have to find and encourage is the story with which he is going to feel really comfortable about letting himself out.
I suspect, and I could be wrong, that for the movies for which he has written, he had been told this is the story and these are the number of songs he has to write. I was told that he has written 300 songs in six years. I don't think anyone has told him to write from his heart. That is what I would like to encourage him to do. The one story that he really relates to and would like to write if he was given all the opportunities in the world to do.

KK you can fine the Kandukonden music at
http://www.ramiy.com/. This is really a very different musical score from Rehman.
Very melodious indeed. I luve that song by Yesudass based on Natakurunji ragam.I find in this page lot ARR thrashing and IR thrashing.
I dont know what joy u guys get out of it execpt for boosting or hurting each others ego.
I am a great fan of IR at the same time, but that doesnt stop me from appreciating good music wether it is from IR or ARR
And both of them cannot be compared.
ARR's music is for this Generation and IR is for little older generation.
ARR comes under World Music category whereas IR comes more under Western Classical and Classical fusion category. And there is lot of age also
so please leave this bashing and starting give good and valuable reviews hereafter.

there would have not been an ARR without an IR,no IR without a MSV ,no MSV without MSV-Ramamoorthy,no M-R without G.Ramnathan, and so on.
Each has achieved something by working on others work.can you imagine a ARR in 70`s?He would have sunk without a trace.all of them happened because they were in the right place in the right time.
Was it edison who said -if i have seen more it is because i stood on the shoulders of giants.
I hope these people themselves do not think that they are unique.each of them have taken the tfm in a new direction once in 15 years.we will see a new one in next few years-the public is so unfaithful ,they will just flock to the next one to come on the scene.
but all said and done, guys,i still think raja is the greatest,is`nt he?

Doesn't it sound sick Prakash, to introduce another good for nothing cold war between IR-ARR fans here? Aren't you tired of this? Come on guys, the numbers of Kandukondaen Kandukondaen add up another feather to his cap - absolutely lilting. Enjoy them amidst all this chaos.

'Engey enadhu kavidhai' looks like it has been set in Sindhu Bhairavi and sung by Chithra with so much of bhaavam that it is spell binding. Excellent composition and base music. Great thamizh pronunciation.

'konjum mainaakaley' - again thamizh kolai. The interlude at point, resembles 'Sungudi sungudi selai sundhari vandhaaLey, avaL sokkupodi pottu ponaaLey' of Mr.Romeo song. Why ARR?

well, the buzz created by Alaipayudhe seems to bo over so soon. Is it because of the standard of the album barring two good "old" songs in it?.
Well guys please read what vairamuthu says about ARR`s nowadays music in todays Hindu, in the talk of the town section.I am not surprised with VM`s frustration.Half of the times I couldn`t hear anything at all except the `music` in Alaipayuthe!

I admire Sriram's appreciation for Chithra's good Tamizh pronunciation - I feel nowadays people give less importance on the pronunciation - esp. the 'la' and 'llla'. So ultimately the song becomes obscene inspite of good music and good voice. So maybe people (not only singers) should try to speak Tamizh prudently. When we are so much bothered to speak English (an alien language) flawlessly, we should be ashamed of not being able to speak our mother tongue correctly - do u agree - Mr.Sriram and others?
