I think pg forgot to mention another good number by IR in the movie "Bharathi". "Mayil pola" is a lilting melody which is folkish and nicely rendered by Bhavatharini. The lyrics, tune and the rendering all are superb.

Fellow IRFs,
Where can I get an original CD of Bharathi in Toronto, Canada?
OR a reliable web site where I can get it within a week or so?
I tried the stores in Toronto. They don't have it.
I tried the HMV site. This album is nowhere to be seen on that site.
Please help.

'vaakkappatta boomi' was in the news a year or so ago. Right around the time 'Dhaj Maghaal' was in production. Even at that time IRs name was mentioned as MD.
I read this in kunkuman and other such dime a dozen magazines.
kunkumam even suggested that VM might pen the lyrics. This was before DM was even released.
At that time, VB was supposed to be BR's next venture.
All of a sudden this kadal pookkal happened.
And then came news of 'manasthan'.
Call me Mr. Thomas, but I am not willing to believe this until Raja or BR confirms it.
I have been made a fool too many times in the past with this same 'vathanthi'.

Athi,
If you are using IE 5, then go to View > Encoding > User defined.
if you do this in the dailythanthi page...you should be able to see the page in tamil.
anyway, the news is about IR tunining in for Sathayaraja's movie.THIRUNAL..sort of based on Bharath Natayam.Guru Dhanapal direction.Lakshi and Poonam heroines.

Is thavil percussion used in the Vande Mataram song or am I imagining it ?
BTW, the real audio samples dont do justice to these songs. I suggest buying CD/tape to listen to these songs. Not much electronic sounds, atleast for the percussion I think (Thank god). Surely, as somebody mentioned, this album has the potential of turning into a classic like sindhu bhairavi.

career has been revived by "ennamma kannu",
thirunAL is being dusted out of the trash bin.
Kiru, You are 100% right about the electronic sound being absent in Bharati.Bharati is a future classic -deservedly so.

actaully the news in that daily thanthi link was saying that there is bharatanatyam song "vennialvil.." where 2 grand daughters compete with each. Vijayakumar is the grandfather-guru.
ethil sathyaraj engey varaar endru theriyala. this BN stuff might be only for this song alone. sathyama if the movie is on BN and sathyaraj acting endraall.....padam eppavey "govindha" thaaan. :-)

Guys finally Barathi arrived from India yesterday. Wanted to post my comments after a couple of hearings. I'm just gonna post comments about the songs which struck me at the first instant,
Ninai Charan... Bombay Jayashree
A lovely smooth song pretty well rendered in a calm and composed way by Jaishree.
Ethilum Engu..... Madhu Balakrishnan
One of the awesome songs of the album. Madhu sounds to me like Unni Menon, and his Tamil delivery and pronunciation is a welcome relief to Tamil Film Music. Another watchout intro by IR.
Mayil Pola... Bhavatharini
Sans Bava this is my pick of the album. IR just gets into me with his old style arrangements.
Nalla Thor Veenai... Ilayaraja/Mano
More than me telling, guys hear this for yourselves, and just get those electrons running thro your nerves.
General comments on the album,
* Totally different from the whole lot of albums released in the recent past
* Perfect Tamil pronunciation and delivery by all the singers.
* Mr. Genius "is there" at a few places though not in the entire album :-)
