HI
I agree that not many activities r taking place in this thread --- since there hasnt been any IR album lately. So we had better wait for the album Danush to be released. May be after that this thread becomes active again....

Rocky/uv,
I really don't see why people say these thread to be dropped. In that case ARR's threads need to be dropped too. How long people have to wait for Thenaali?!? And how well the music was received.
I can say Bharathi is received well and so too Karuvelam Pookkal.

Friends,
'Friends' is getting released this week. It is the movie by Malayalam director Kamal. He is a great director and several of his movies has had an artistic touch.
Have anyone noticed that Mal.directors r giving great importance to BGMs and IR concentrates more on BGMs to satisfy them.
Eg. Priyadarshan - Siraichaalai
Bharathan - Theval Magan, Aavarampookal
Fazil - Kadalukku Mariyadhai
Balu Mahendra - Moondram pirai
Kamal - Friends ???

Balu Mahendra is not a Malayalee.
He is a 'pachchai thamizhan' born and bread in Eelam.

Your correct STS. I see the malayalam film Friends last month. The film will be screening in tamil on december. Film Story excellant, action comedy beutiful, different climax, jayaram and mukesh role in malayalam excellant, exspecially surya role (Mukesh) is serious. Music by IR excellant in BGM for comedy.

You people are really great...IR is almost retired and out of race...In the last seven years he has composed music for only one HIT film that is KADHALUKKU MARIYADHE...Presently he is either composer for art films or some irrelavant low budget films...But you guys still praise him to the core and discuss about his unsuccessful efforts in sincere way giving him even now so much importance which he does not deserve....Listening to Kattrukkenna veli or Karisal kattu Poove is sheer waste of time...He is not even average now..

Ahmed I do agree with you.
IR seems to have lost the magic and grip on his audience that he used to have back in 80s.
But as you know IR fans like us cannot digest this fact and we live in our own world.
As you can see the most of the topics always goes something like arr vs ir or end up in that topic finally. Its time for the IR fans to get over it.
come to the real world where ARR,SA,Deva rules now i am not saying they are great, good or bad its all upto the individual taste current taste of TFM is very obvious please lets not start another whole lot of hatred mails.
This is my individual opinion even today i prefer to listen to old IR songs than the latest one of IR,this is afact which every fair minded IR fans will agree..
And I have already written about this and many tfm fans also agreed with me.
Buts its nice to kow that IR has such a strong and sincere fan following atleast here in US..
Lets put this topic to rest
Peace to you

ahmed, so you tell which is useful music!.
Just because lot of people listen to different music doesnt mean we need to change our taste.
I cant stand any SAR, deva stuff. we just dont like it. in US there are about 20 genres of music, each has about 100 of artists and band. One guys collection vary from others so much, they dont recognize other albums. So diverse taste here. They dont just go like 'mandhayila adu'. So go for the music your heart likes. If you dont like raja, keep it to yourselfs. If you feel he is bad and go reasons why? you can share it here. Just giving a feeling that he is down, he is not popular, doesnt prove any point. I am proud of the music I listen, I dont care who else likes it. Any day raja had only the fans he has now! others were part of those mandhayila adu. Now they are in different mandhai. If 'gayathiri kettum' song wasnt a hit, that means we are living through some dogs day of tamil music. I wont stop listening to it just because its was not a hit.

kk,
If you like a particular song but others don't like it as much as you do don't consider their tastes to be retarded.
What is this 'mandhayila adu'?Everyone has their own taste.Nobody taste or preference is inferior to anybody else's.How can you assume your taste to be mindful while others taste are mindless or inferior?
I would like to quote your posting,
"So go for the music your heart likes"

Trend,
After having read your posts I am developing a respect for your musical interests :-)
If I were your I would have said, 'nobody should consider others inferior for their tastes'.
For some unfortunate reason, classical music in India has become cutoff from the mainstream. But you can tell our people are more impressed by melodies than anything else. It does not matter who the MD is, this is their preference (you can do your homework here and come to the same conclusion). The fact that carnatic music gives more importance to melody is apparent (inspite of the advanced tAlam system). So carnatic music is the music of our people. But it has become highly sophisticated because of very skilled people working on it. Same goes for Western classical music. In order to appreciate these things fully one needs to motivate oneself to make oneself aware of various aspects of these kinds of music. There are books on how to appreciate Mozart, Beethoven. We need books like this for Indian music. So basically one has to make some effort as well, just to enjoy.
I will give you more examples from other fields -
1) Clothing design - we appreciate sophisticate design and patterns more when we are grown up than when we were kids.
2) Food - we like to go to fine restaurants..but kids here might be happy with pizza or peanut butter sandwich or our kids might like pAl sAdham or idli/charkkarai.
All these examples show that more the awareness the more complicated what we enjoy becomes !!!
The more I read about music the more I was able to appreciate music (eg. IR). Yesterday, I saw bArathy and can tell how integral was music to the movie. It was even making up for the sometimes cliched or poor direction (yes !!). Instruments/arrangements used in the song were used as BGM throughout and you get the feel of pAlil kalandha ney. I did enjoy the movie well. (Also, I liked the fact that a full song was not used in the movie. Even though I like the songs. I think this will start a trend towards more realistic movies.)

"In the last seven years he has composed music for only one HIT film that is KADHALUKKU MARIYADHE..."
I think this means, "Off the movies for which IR composed music in the past seven years, only KADHALUKKU MARIYADHE was a hit".
Though that is not exactly a fact, I think that was what you tried to say.
Correct me if I am wrong.
