  S, madhan : i think u guys are reading a bit too much there. What ARR meant was that these movies werent the usual big-banner ones and werent intended to be "big", but these movies becmae big and gave a name for MR and Shankar. In fact ARR continues in his interview to say that he also grew with these directors!!

  Roja was indeed a big banner movie (Kavidhalaya of KB) & the movie was made in two languages simultaneously with a lot of promotion stuff!!! The only difference (related to `big' fellows) for KB & MR in that film was replacement of IR!!

  ARR grew with MR? If that's part of the interview, then it would be among the worst lies in TF!! 'cause MR had already been termed India's answer to Spielberg before Roja - by even certain reputed mags (I think India Today) during the previews of Dhalapathi. His movies prior to Roja are as follows: Pagal Nilavu, Idhayakoil, Mouna raagam, Nayakan, Agni nakshathiram, Geethanjali-Tel. (TF: Idhayathai thirudathe), Anjali & Dhalapathi. All these were big blackbusters that put MR among money and fame!!! GV, MR's brother even launched a public shareholding company (banking mainly on MR) back then!!
  
  And people say he grew with ARR? Probably he waned after joining ARR!!! (As the failures of Thief thief, Iruvar and Uyire are greater than the box office successes of Roja and Bombay)

  And when ARR says he grew with MR/Shankar, what he meant (IMO) was that with movies like roja, kaadalan, bombay etc.. MR/shankar became more popular, so did ARR, along with them. You'd understand it better if you go thru the interview transcript.

  The music for 'Sangamam' is to be released on Monday, say sources. Also, 'Taal' will release on the 4th or 5th. I am not sure since ARR's albums are usually postphoned. Sources say that three songs of 'Sangamam' are really good. The MSV song seems to be least likeable. We'll see when the album hits the market, I suppose.

  ARR's Taal is the most hyped, eagerly awaited album in Hindi. And what I don't like is the way its director Subhash Ghai goes around saying that he 'helped' ARR compose the 9 songs and some instrumental stuff (he apparently sat with him for 90 nights, no less!) He's making this out to be a joint venture!!!
  I have a feeling that he(Ghai) may have forced him to compose some typical 'dafli' 'band-baja' numbers a la Laxmikant-Pyarelal resembling some 80s Hindi number, in his attempt to remove the so-called 'southie flavor' from ARR's music.
  
  Well, I hope the album has interesting surprises (like Rangeela)
