Anapurna,
Again you should not have used the 4 letter words that u have used here. It is not quite upto the standards of decorum, that have been consistently practised in this forum and have been one of the reasons that sets this forum apart.
Yes, I do agree that musisc has nothing to do with language. Everyone is entitled to their own taste in music. I can live with differences as long as we maintain a sense of decorum.
So also everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
The mere fact that you have a differing opinion does not put you in an elevated position, from where you can command people to "grow up"- to use your own phrase.
You interpreted my sentence as being demeaning to the Hindi audience. Let me also tell you that this opinion purely pertains to music and nothing else.
If I do not like a person's musical taste, it does not in any way reflect on my attitude towards the person as a whole.
Lastly, even I like MDs trying out different singers and voices AS LONG as they don;t spoil the pronunciation ! :-)
Srinivas

Dear Mr.Udhaya, my sincere apologies for having misquoted words - I would like to defend my usage of IR's name as an example - I could not have used any non _TFM personality's name here, leave alone the name of any leader.
Anyway, this is IMO - whatever be the validity of the language issue, the whole thing has been so grossly politicised that the beneficiaries have been a few political parties and not the common man in Tamil Nadu or anywhere else.
But still, the Mozhi Por continues - even I do resent and condemn the condescending attitude of others towards Tamil and tamilians as a whole - but then we should give some scope for the future as well -

Madhan, I can appreciate what you wrote today. I'm not too far from you in this issue. I have no problems when Thamizh co-exists with another language, but when another younger language is supposed to take the place of Thamizh, I'll be out there on the streets with my weapons to resist. Enough said. It's been a lively digression if not a peaceful one. I apologize for the tangents this thread took due to my postings.
On a less digressive note, I felt good that the Indian expatriates showed their commercial muscle by launching "Dil Se" among the top ten movies in London.

The album "Dil Se" is quite different from other recent albums in the sense that ARR has 1) come up with tunes without having much of western flavor in them ,IMO. 2) has done less or no experimentation with singers voices. Good for him and for the singers. IMO, the tunes might suit hindi music than tamil music , eg "thaiya thaiya" and "hey ajnabi" . So the HFM fans would like it better than TFM fans. Songs "jiya jale" and "dil se re" could fit into both languages for melodies. Song 'Satrangi re' is again hindi like tune.
HFM kAttula nalla mazhai. HFM certainly needs
his services for they have been starving for years to get a break after RD burman's exit. He should continue there for a long time and be a leader for other younger MDs to come. The taste of the HFM fans is certainly not of low quality as some may have been thinking. It is just that they have been forced to listen what was available to them. We had IR for almost
15 years until 1990. They had nobody of that calibre during that time period. He may not be a genious like IR, but he sure can reach some heights in HFM. In this album , he has shown immense potential in composing HFM , perhaps
even better than TFM. May be he is too good at it. On any given day, I would rate 'Dil Se' as much superior melody than 'Jeans' as for as my
taste (of melody) goes. It may be totally wrong from a commercial angle. But my conscience would not accept anything other than rythmic sense.
I am looking forward to his 'En swAsa kATRE' which is due now. I am also looking forward to next mega hit from IR. A Healthy Competition is the key in any business for a customers satisfaction. That is my take in T(H)FM whether it is IR or ARR, i do care for quality in melody , no matter who gives and how(?)
PS: I have said "tune suits hindi music" and "hindi like tune" for having 0 knowledge in any type of music, except enjoying. I had no others ways to explain, so if any mistakes please excuse me.

hai.,
i agree that 'dilse' is better than 'jeans'.,
i don't think that song 'dilse re.,' is that much bad., it has an excellent melody in saranams & rahman has done a good work both as MD & singer.,ofcourse the song would have been more nice if he has avoided that 'kaththal'
