  It's good to have an adult discussion again. I liked the composition of two songs from "Minnalae" by Harris Jeyaraj, but even "Vaseegara" and "Venmathi" could've been much better with proper singers or at least pronunciation. HJ's choice of singers and Thamizh assault are worse than ARR. I don't believe that his success bodes well for lyrics in TFM.

  #2. people like it, so it is not the MD (harrisJ) who does this wantendly.
  the language was ok not as bad you think :)
  i think you are focusing too much on tamil...this is not poem rendering...imho, film song is different.

  Udhaya, I echo comment's opinions on this..Harris Jeyaraj didnt use singers with pronunciation any worse than what ARR uses most of the times..as far as I can remmeber he used SM, Harini, B.Jayashree, Unnikirishnan whose pronunciations are far better than the Sonu Nigams and the Vasundhra Dases and the Udit Narayans that ARR uses so frequently..listen to ayoo pathikichchu from Rhythm or konjum mainaakale from kandukonden kandukonden and being a stickler for pronunciation you are bound to commit suicide :-))
  
  Vaseegara was special..I liked Jeyaraj's move of selecting Jayshree's coice for this song..I think that was the whole surprise element in that song..making a singer like her (who was made to sing stereotyped carnatic songs like "narumugaiye") sing a pop number..the song's success was well deserved IMO..
  
  Udhaya, if you also notice there arent any unnecessary english words in that Vaseegara song, in spite of being a pop number catering to youngsters, and that I appreciated..I think it was the new pulavar Thamarai who did the job(and I read somewhere that VM is already asking producers not to use Thaamarai..if this is true he is a pathetic loser!!)

  I don't consider B.Jayashree a good render of Thamizh songs. She also blemished the otherwise grand, "Narumugaiyae". I agree Thamarai did a bang up job with the lyrics for "Vaseegara" which makes the choice of singer doubly sad. The "Venmathi" song had a new singer right? He didn't do that song justice as far as I'm concerned. I agree with ARR being the propagator of this sick trend but why should HJ follow ARR's worst trait?

  Udhaya, my point is Jayashree's rendition of Vaseegara is no less cacaphonic as compared to say Vasundhara dases rendition of ayoo pathikichchu..it was just an experiment on his part and apparently it has gone down well with the masses..and as far as I remember I cant find outright Tail kolai by BJ in Vaseegara..sometimes she prnunced "pa" as "bha" etc..but these are far less pardonable considering the composition, the singer's ability and the present standards of Tamil pronunciation..
  
  and if you notice it is this song and not "venmathiye" which fetched Harris popularity..and so I am not particularly disturbed..
  
  I am more disturbed by the fact that ARR in a recent interview(check the AVMAX thread) has said that he doesnt mind "small mistakes in pronunciation" by singers as long as the people like it and he was referring to "kuluvaalile"!!!
  
  Now tell me are you more disturbed by the commercial success of Vaseegara or by the commercial success of Kuluvaalile? :-))
  
  and as comment said ARR popularized( i wouldnt say started, IR started this trend long time back) this trend and newcomers like HJ are forced to follow, sometimes perhaps even against their liking..

  VeNmathi is sung by RoopKumarRathod, Its his first song in tamil, But he has already sung a lot in Hindhi.,

  A R Rehman is surely the best music director in today's industry and definitely in the future. He has dominated from the early 90's till date.
  Besides his character is even something to praise.
