  What doesn't "look good" to you was not "good enough" for SD :-)
  In pure ideological terms, why should it matter if something looks "good" or doesn't? Isn't this an imposition of one's own preferred sentiment on something that is not one's own?
  I'd settle for the "right" thing to do, as it privileges "conscience" over "convention."
  
  I can go on about symbols and their meaning, their importance and their interpretation....endlessly.

  My basic question still remains unanswered.Has NI taken any conscious steps ever to understand the southern psyche.Whether it is Sivaji or CV Raman or PT Usha -the SI has to go through too many alleys than his NI counterpart to the hall of fame.What irritates is that the alleys have been designed by NI because of their sheer number.
  
  I know this discussion wont produce the end result in places where it matters.But lets make a start with write ups in saloon mags -Star dust ,Fim fare etc,PResent our strengths.make forums like newtfmpage more visible,particiapte in healthy HFM discussions,create occasional rabble-rousing to get noticed!

  "Psyche," if my understanding serves me right, is both individual and collective (a certain group), but seldom monolithic. For instance, you and I most definitely can claim different "minds" (psyche), all the sevaks of RSS can claim a common "ideological" psyche, but "northerners" or "southerners" can't be lumped together as having a "general" psyche. This is irreducible.

  Barring the generalisation contained in that query, I find that once again (inadvertently) you put the "power" of "recognition" (understanding) on our northern bretheren. And isn't that what the whole issue is about: Where you see blatant bias, and know that there are no "conscious" (psyche again) steps being taken (in fact, you see more and more of the same - which is a combination of inertia and condescension) -- isn't it a foregone conclusion?
  
  In the context of films/film music, I think it bears repeating what I have said before:
  Bollywood looks southwards only when it serves its own purposes. Of course, we all know how easily swayed tamils are by even the smallest of gestures by northern MDs, Singers etc. Hence, in this case, you can't posit power in the very thing you choose to resist, and then turn around and cry foul - when you (an industry, that is) are only complicit in your own abuse.
  
  Good luck with getting critical pieces about this topic into Stardust, Filmfare etc. I mean, when was the last time you saw a feature interview with PS, or TMS or Vijayakanth in those glossies?
  In a decade, even a Rajnikanth would have mustered about 7 pages (or less) total.
  Now, there something to celebrate! :-)

  Most of these awards are usually decided on the recommendation/push from the state government. TMS, sadly, would never have got the award this time around if it were not for the fact that he happens be a favourite of amma (can be shortlived, given the order of the day). If it was a DMK regime now, perish the thought...
  
  Did you know that Sukumari (veteran Malayalam actress, sometimes Thamizh) was actually recommended for Padmashree by the TN govt.? They couldn't find anyone better than her in the state for the award! Can you see S S Chandran, Radha Ravi, Ramarajan, Ambika and Radha rubbing their hands in anticipation?
  
  Not to detract from Sukumari's calibre; I think she's a fine artiste indeed, but surely for her to be nominated for her contribution to Thamizh cinema is nothing short of a cruel joke and a gross insult to TMS and VM, IMO

  On a lighter vein,
  
  We used to say "Ghulam Parkar adikira cybera R.Madhavanum ,TE Srinivasanum adikka maatangala" - what an equation!
  So SS chandran & co can keep rubbing as Johnny Lever is going to get it one day!

  OISG, why equate TE Srinivasan with cyber?? He roared after landing in Australia, "Tell Dennis, TE is here."
  BTW, Ghulam didnt do badly. A rousing 42 and MOM in the Guwahati ODI v WI, 83
